The 12 credits that they require have to be done in a six month term. Once your nursing term start date is set you cannot change it to sooner, even if you accelerate those last 12 credits. So really the program is two and a half years. I’m currently in the program and 100% recommend it.

I moved to attend my LPN program. I was ready to move anyway. Illinois programs are very expensive and moving allowed me to save completely on my program. My program was $6000 but I ended up getting everything covered because I found a grant. Mind you I have a degree already (2 to be exact) and I no longer qualify for financial aid. It was a blessing. Just do your research! I am definitely attending WGU. Studying for the HESI now and then I will finish up prerequisites. I plan to start once accepted in September or October if possible.

Nursing school is like a lot of other degrees. Take engineering. For example. Your first two years is doing all the maths and physics, and general education. The second two years is more focused on what engineering discipline you will be learning. Most degrees are like this.
Also, those other schools that you can get your nursing degree in one year, not only do you need a bachelor degree, but you need all the prereqs that will can take up to a year to get before you ever actually get into nursing school. So they're not really only a year.
