I remember watching this on BBC2 at the time with my dad as a young teenager. I don’t mind admitting I’ve just watched it from start to finish again and cried. Just simply brilliant, a thing of beauty. I’ll never be able to put into word what the music that these guys made means to me. 💙

I was there. Just such an amazing band. I was at 83 I guess? My first ever concert. Makes me so emotional. It was The Crossing. And then I met him in Sound Control (music shop in Dunfermline) and he chose my first geeetar . Hahhaha happy memories

The two biggest mistakes people make when listening to Big Country are not turning it up loud enough and not letting themselves feel the music. The walls should be shaking as well as one's soul.

My favorite band of all time. I was 16 when I
saw them in concert for the first time. It was early 1984 or late 1983 in Hollywood California at the Hollywood Palladium. It was my first concert without my parents and I was there with my best friend. The show was life changing. It left an indelible mark on my memory , never to be removed, and almost 40 years now and it still was the greatest rock concert I have ever attended.

If you go back and read fanzines of the time, along with Echo and the Bunnymen, Big Country was regarded the absolute cutting edge of rock music in the aftermath and eventual repetitiveness of Punk. These bands were musically paying up the promise that Punk had seemed in the very beginning, yet finally came up short. Where were the Big Country imitators? I think Echo had them, but Big Country? I don't think there really were any, because how could you?

This show was and remains the epitany of New Year's for me. Such a fantastic band. Proper musicians. Not like the crap they put forward as music these days. Stuarts voice was so unique with its Scottish lilt and the twin guitar sound was the best since Thin Lizzy.

having witnessed the band for the first time at the NEC in Birmingham UK just a few weeks before (despite the sanitised venue, still one of the most magical gigs i've ever been to) i watched this with my mum on NYE '84. i agree with some of the comments that the sound on the night coming through the tv wasn't the best reflection of the band's live sound (for that you need to watch the gig exactly a year earlier in Glasgow - THE best concert footage there is imho), but the reaction of the crowd and the atmosphere in the place tells you of the magic that existed in the room when these boys plugged in. stay alive in '85.

Wow! These Hogmanay BC concerts always come with some sort of additional magic. The experience of witnessing the complete concert versus individual songs - with the incredible energy of the band on full display - is totally capturing. Thank you for making it all possible!

Those interlopers during Come Back to Me were straight out of a Bill Forsyth Comedy; wheech went the bouncer, and they were flushed away. An especially Good New Year ,rightly captures the mood through the music.

An incredible connection between the band and its audience.
Pure energy on stage and it is also evident that everyone is having a good time. I loved the ending.
*Thank you very much for sharing this incredible material.*

My goodness this has brought a tear and a memory as we jumping up and down beside the camera in the front row. Thanks for the upload and thank you Stevie for having a girlfriend that worked in the ticket office of the Playhouse.

when the Crossing came out I had a driving licence followed these boys with my mate Geoff ( the daft Mancs ) Sad to say on the Final Fling tour as a fan they were at their F**king best.

So who invaded the stage at 38:49 then? Come on - reveal yourself! I did the same thing myself once, at a gig by Beck, Bogert and Appice. Gave Jeff Beck a hug before being hurled off the stage... happy days! And what a magnificent band Big Country were - I'm so thankful I saw them on the farewell tour. R.I.P. Stuart.

One of my favorite concerts I was barely two months old at the time this aired. Another great treat to come home from work to. Thanks as always.

I saw them in a club called Dingwalls in Bristol when they had just started, to this day it was one of the best shows I've seen, a few months later The Crossing came out

First live band I ever saw in 1984, 11th October, on the Steeltown tour. I wonder what happened to Stuarts' guitars? I remember seeing his Sienna sunburst Stratocaster for sale in a Sound Control mailing list - Decades before the internet, for about £379, which amounted to about half a years wages on a YOP wage!

His daughter Kirsten has a couple, there's one on permanent display in Dunfermline and a few others are in the hands of fans and private collectors.
