    This brings some memories how, when I served my year in Russian army, me and my buddy tried to cut barbed wire with that thing and the blade snapped. CO wasn't pleased, that's for sure.

      Then there must be a weak point in the bayonet.
      Mines can take thik spikes with ease..
      I ounce break one..but that was on purpose..a test.
      This bayonets are great.

    The "saw" isnt actually for real sawing. Its for making notches in things to tie things off. Like for example tying a rope in that groove so it doesn't start to strip the rope. Same with the american m9. For notches, not sawing

      It’s actually for cutting the sheet metal on airplanes 🙄

      😂😂 look at this dude, you think that puny lil 7cm saw is gonna cut through airplane parts? Yeah in 14 business days it might. Plus this is a bayonet, not the camillus pilot knife (which, it too, wasn't made for sawing through aircraft parts)@@LordThree

    You forgot to test a few other capabilities. Like file, pick and hammer. All attributed to the AKM type 2 (tested) bayonet.

    i think some of the source of the yugo bayonets issues, is the blades are chisel ground, they only have a bevel on one side

    The saw part is for trap notches not for full saw, I guess you can use it like that too saw a 1 inch stick ….and finish in 2 days !!! Just kidding. But impressive for a design of the late 40’s I will say ??

  • @helenaprimera516

    Thats technically a metal saw, its implied you cut steel rods with it, thats why its so thick in profile. Clipper thingy is just so that you wont need an engineer running around you with his own clippers every time you need to cross a barbed wire. 6х9 knives ditched the saw part, and moved clippers fully onto the sneath part. Same shit, better than nothing. But hey, you get a bonus grindstone in the package!

    Aren't those metal type saw teeth?

    Very enjoyable video. I like my yugo bayonet, but it's definitely one of those absolutely 100% collector's items, and not something I'd want to rely on in the woods for any real non-bayonet charge work.
    That said. I have been looking for a nice hand knife, preferably fixed blade, with a backside for sawing through branchs. I'd use the knife for whittling, skinning, and bushcraft. I haven't had much luck using those and similar terms in search engines, and many websites obviously have their sponsors when comparing 5 different knifes.
    Any recommendations?

      @GearyGunderson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I've found and seen, there's really not a good all around that can also saw effectively. It might be best to get a Silky Saw, it's a folding saw that's pretty compact. It's one more thing to carry but to have a good fixed blade knife, you need enough thickness to make sawing somewhat impractical.

      @@GearyGunderson No joke I actually just saw a Russian guy compare machete/saw combos versus a silky saw that he had. I'm getting a silky saw and machete to go with my smaller multitool and pocket knife.

    I don't think that the saw teeth were meant to cut wood, more likely rope and webbing. So probably not a valid assessment.

      Fair point, I may have to try it again with rope.

    Why do akm bayonets come blunt/unsharpened?

    • @GearyGunderson
      @GearyGunderson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of older bayonets are not sharpened while in military service, they are usually meant more for stabbing than actually slashing, but admittedly I have not read a specific doctrinal reason for this.

    Strange..all my AKM bayonets can cut thick spikes in combination with the scabbard..i sharpen them so they are very sharp..and i saw through oak wood wth them..they did everything very well.
    Maybe you must sharpen yours..you can even sharpen the saw..
    Nice video..
    O yes..the saw is more for metal and making nothes in a tree for example..
    But strange my Russian an German 6x4 AKM Bayonets do so well and yours not..maybe a other manufacturer?
    But you can makes a good working tool..with a little bit work..
    Take care!
