Rockhopper Adventures
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 พ.ย. 2019
Welcome to my channel! During my life I've achieved numerous adventures, including two world's-first treks -- I was the first to walk the entire ocean shoreline of the West Coast of the USA from Canada to Mexico - a 13-month, 3300-mile journey. Later, I became the first to circumambulate New Zealand's South Island in similar fashion by walking the ocean shore of beaches, rocks, and cliffs -- 4,500 miles in 2 1/2 years. I received national and international publicity in various forms of media, like television. A newspaper dubbed me "The Rockhopper" so I thought it appropriate to call my channel Rockhopper Adventures.

From Hollywood To Homesteading - The Harsh Reality Of Living Out Here
Many people romanticize the idea of homesteading in a cabin in the woods with no neighbors: living on your own piece of property that has a creek flowing across it, forest animals as your companions, and a peaceful and serene life of little stress. But just because you have no neighbors doesn't mean you'll have no problems with people. There's a harsh reality to homesteading in this place, as you'll learn. But there's also a joy to it that might be unmatched by any other lifestyle.

Organization is critical for living off grit, keeping your home in good working order, clean and organized. I did not see counters and how they prepare and can food. A lot of people believe that living off grit is just an excuse for hoarding junk outside and living without any responsibility, when that happens, no respect is given to you. A lot of people see preppers and off grit living as that.
We should all be allowed to live how WeWant love it .Carry on
This is extreme😕. I don’t get it.
Canada isn't a country. It's a corporation.
How long have you lived in that climate?
The real Beverly hillbillies the UP is the place you want to be so we packed up the family
absolutely beautiful shots, never stop exploring, you've captured abandoned saskatchewan perfectly !
Dave! Marcia here. Thanks for doing this wonderful interview! I loved seeing the pictures and hearing your memories of what it was like growing up at GMG, in Smiths Inlet. It brought back many wonderful memories of my own. Have you read Gayle's book? "A Boat To Take You There"? You'd enjoy it I'm sure.
Great video! Souris means mice in french. Mice street :)
Ooo Kwanadah....
They sound like the nicest people not cool being mean ffs probably get along with everyone
Looks pretty flat to me. Hmmm...
where do get money to buy things from ???????? thanks
Dog feed and other feeds aren't cheap.

16:13 haha, I love how you smoked a J and started pointing a camera at them 😂 They must have really liked you before that; hopefully they still do after 😂
13:47 nice place, I love that you aren’t bothered by the elements but still right there living with natural light. When it rains you experience it without getting wet. I would love to be there during the rain, but I’ll pass on the wet dog smell though haha, dog houses weren’t invented for nothing
Is hunters hair naturally that color? I wish I had hair like that
I get the point of very little technology etc...but id still want a phone in case of emergencies.
Enjoyed the video. Guy is making it happen
It seems to be a global phenomenon with severe population decline causing many places to die out.
Just a small detail about the float camps and logging . In those days the gypo loggers would often do contract logging for the large companies. It was very often A frame logging. An A frame was a large log float with a A frame made of two large logs going up and meeting at the top = A frame shape. At the top blocks for the cables to run through would be attached and that would provide lift for the lines to run up onto the hill side. A yarder on log skids (often nick named a donkey) would be tied down on one end of the float and included the cable drums. The float was held of the beach with stiff legs (logs) that would hold it off the beach far enough that it could rise and fall with the tide. I was told by family that the gypo contractors would sometimes be given a logging claim by the a large company, but if they made good money they might be then given a poor claim in order they remain beholding. When logging quotas were implemented, if the gypo's hadn't ever obtained their own claims it was the big company that got the quota/cut. Since the camp that Dave is talking hadn't got a lot of their own claims they didn't get a large quota. Eventually it only made sense to shut down. I also grew up in the same Smith Inlet camp but it was a few years later when it started gypo truck logging a valley. ------------ Since we were all familiar with BC waters and there was the summer gillnet fishing in the inlets, many of us ended up in the fishing industry as seine boat owners and skippers.
Saskatchewan farmer here and yes, seeing more and more fading towns is sad BUT, I prefer the open fields, quiet seclusion and safety than the bustling chaos of a city.
I live offgrid . People are jelouse . Becouse we are truely free .
As an Albertan, my family originally settled in Melville SK, when they immigrated from Germany back in the 1930s. I always wanted to make the trip there to see the original homestead or the plaque anyways of where they settled
Who the hell do you think you are driving your car in someones field? Get a clue
My father was born in swiftcurrent, myself never been there. I was born in gananoque, ont long way from there
Seriously? Smoking a boobie? Drug addiction destroys families. Shameful.
They could use a Bluette power station and solar panel. Love to take them one. For lights and such
God bless these Americans. I do feel love for them. We are all connected.
Don't worry guys the Indians are coming.
Living the dream!❤
Apparently they don’t sell condoms in their neck of the woods.
Love the video thanks for sharing, I love Saskatchewan
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Shouldve stopped in, have a beverage n talked with the locals
. The simple life does not mean an easy life. Cutting, splitting and hauling firewood to keep your cabin warm in Northern Michigan isnt an option. If you dont have enough wood, you'll freeze to death. I bet that outhouse is cold in January, and you better have a turd touching cotton before you head out there in a blizzard.
It is abandonded yet so beautiful!! My goal is to save up enough money to do a coast to coast road trip across Canada and you are indeed already living my dream, great video!!
Thanks! I hope you get to do your road trip!
All thanks to Trump, Harper, and the big oil companies that care about money instead of protecting earth
"Carbon Tax" was never about protecting the earth at all either, only money, so what's your point? Many of those towns have been dying for years and decades prior to Trump and Harper taking power, nothing to do with just those two politicians... Might as well add Trudeau into the list too since he's also the reason they are loosing population...
The people there are fine, its you who have no clue, your mommy never told you no lol
Fun video but man I just absolutely hate whatever effect you are putting on your voiceover. It really ruins the vibe of the video.
Great couple 💖
Who is they he keeps referring to specifically?
Exactly

Where is child protection? These kids need sugar, video games, and mediocre public education!
So much natural resources a mining province. Why does it have to associated with wheat.
I live on Ontario and will likely never step foot in Manitoba or Saskatchewan
Thank you so much for that great video. Now I'm living in Switzerland my home country but I lived in Regina Sask for almost 10 years and traveled around quite a bit but obviously not enough ...that's why your video comes so handy: thank you.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
They got no business on his property
It is usually people who have never had to work hard for anything , not raised to respect others , or spoiled brats .
They feel entitled to be on his land.
wow...that is some beautiful land.. now i have to add saskatchewan to my bucket list.. amazing all the empty buildings. where did all the people go..l??
0:49 did he say vagina...i know grow up
Forget the family Ranch model. Fight them on the food security model. Food security is considered a national security issue in the States. Fight it on that premises. National security trumps everything. They won't stop till their own children are starving because of it
its a shame the disrespect but you are making it work, its hard for owners moving to any properties where people were use to having freedoms of doing whatever they wished without consequence then you become the enforcer to protect property and privacy, and that's not popular but necessary, I am thankful I am not dealing with this, just other misconceptions of the off grid lifestyle, stay strong, hopefully things will become more peaceful for you all.
