The person who made the video you watched unfortunately misunderstood the song. It´s about the 30 Year War (1618-1648), not the Great Northern War (1700-1721). That´s 82 years off. These are the uniforms of the caroleaneans, Carolus Rex (Karl XII) soldiers. And it´s also him on the painting at 4:27 It´s like if you would make a video about WW1, but have images of soldiers in modern uniforms, from the early 2000s, and instead of President Woodrow Wilson you would see George W Bush. That´s off by _many_ years in the imagery. No, it wasn´t supposed to be him 30 years later, Karl XII was killed when he was 36 (you can listen to Sabatons "Long Live the King (English Version)" and "Konungens likfärd)" which are about his death).
If you check their history video about this, they tell you what the 30 year war was like. Truly gruesome. It will help with some of the references in the lyrics.

I haven't listened to the swedish version but I adore the English version slow and thoughtful, full of power and yet sometimes sad. It's one of my favorites
I do prefer the Swedish lyrics, they're full of really raw emotion. But the English ones are really, really good too, it's like a general idea of the terrors of war.
