- On our way to Quartzsite, AZ and after the Holidays with the family. It's a story of a breakdown in the desert. It's a road trip out west and our travel days don't go smoothly.
And it wasn't just once but 3 times!!! We're not Matt's Off-Road Recovery operation but we have to get it done out in the desert.
Happy New Year and let's get this travel day going in the right direction!

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to TH-cam channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.

Tenacity !! You need to reward St. David with a new pair of blue jeans. From his ever supportive wife. What a team.
😆 Actually, Sondra was after me to get a new pair! Which I did since last year! 😊
What a great, although painful, story. I was riveted by it. For professing to not be mechanically inclined people, you two sure do a lot of great mechanical work. Most people who don’t think they are mechanically oriented would not even try 10% of what you all do. I am constantly amazed by the depth and breath of your abilities. Looking forward to your trek westward. Happy New Year!
😆 Thank you so very much for the kind words. We're excited to see what's next in 2024 and glad you're along on the journey. 😊
And the fact that they both remain calm and living thru it all. Great work!
Dad always tell me to do my research before I try to fix something. Great advice.
Oh yeah! I've got to have a base knowledge of what I'm about to get into! 😆
@@bigtruckbigtravels at least it’s not a reactor control panel.
Oh my gosh…we have RV’d for 40 yrs and have similar stories & so worth remembering. This single video was so worthy of watching … I burst out laughing when there was yet another part “Oh crap” Here’s to “stories” 🇨🇦 ❤
😆 🤣 We couldn't believe it! Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm thankful you found the real problem before it started a fire! And I think you're an excellent handyman!
Thanks 👍I try. Appreciate your comments.
Once again, I’m awe struck! Now you fix the dryer! I don’t think there is anything you can’t fix 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 wow! That’s a crazy crazy story. Too funny! Poor David!!!😢
Wow, thank you! Of course...it took me 6 times of pulling the dryer in and out! But I'm pretty good at it now! 🤣😂😎
Fortunately those wires didn't get hot and cause a fire. They didn't look like they got hot. I must disagree with you in that you are mechanically inclined. You have done alot of work on that rig and did a great job. The Whataburger is well deserved!!!!
Thank you, Bill. It takes awhile but we usually figure it out. We were very fortunate that they didn't get hot. The Whataburger was definitely deserved! 😆
Thanks for the content! Happy New Year 🎊
Happy new year! Thank you very much!
Our dryer is really loud when operating. It sounds a bit like yours except I think it is 2-3 times the volume. perhaps lubricate the wheels? I have been planning to pull it down but boy after this video - I think I know who to call.... "Dave and Sondra Mobile Tech Repair"!🤣🤣🤣
😆 🤣 😂...I think that "repair shop" is no longer a viable entity!
It's a good thing David is so limber and agile to be able to maneuver around and get things accomplished in that little space! Another adventure with a good outcome! Let's hope this trip will be free of any problems! May God continue to bless you all with safe travels and many blessings!
Thank you... I'm hoping for no RV repairs...I think that's a pipe dream! Lol
Gosh! I'm glad I didn't ask about the dryer. I wash and hang the clothes on hangers on a rod in laundryroom.
😆 🤣 it was an experience getting that thing fixed!
Hanging ten in a dryer compartment. An amazing new surfing move!! Good work/never give up.
Yes! Thank you! Never thought I'd use my surfing experience in an RV!
I’m pretty sure I would have just ordered a new after about the third or maybe fourth time in and out. Lol Thanks for the show.
Good choice! In hindsight, I think that's the correct choice! 😆
This event is like every one of my repair jobs. Good luck with the next one:)
😆 I don't feel so bad then... oh, there'll definitely be a next one... and a next one... and...
Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching!
I feel your pain. The belt went on our dryer, finally got the part and installed it to realize the heat sensors had failed as well. Like you, multiple times taking the dryer in and out.
We also had issues with our washer, The door would not unlock. Used a trick learned from TH-cam to open it. Thought the lock mechanism was faulty so replaced it. That didn't solve the problem. Long story short ended up replacing the very expensive washer after having a tech look at it and declare it dead. He thought the board was gone. Because our units are stacked we got really good at taking both out of the very cramped closet they fit in.
All that being said I love having my own washer and dryer.
Happy travels.
Sorry for your trouble but so totally agree on the washer/dryer. Most definitely worth it.
Love it thanks for sharing
You are so welcome. Thanks for watching the channel.
Happy New Year.
Happy new year!
That plug is your generic RV plug. If you ever have problems again, I would remove it and install a residential box and a hardwired residential plug mainly just because of the amount of current that dryer will draw when in use.
Good idea. Thanks 😄
Love y’all’s videos, but what caught my attention was your Green shirt, said Palo Duro Canyon. I live in Amarillo, Texas and been there many times. Nice to see things from my old stomping grounds. I travel full time in my Keystone Alpine pulled by a Ford Dually. Safe travels both of you.
Thanks, Miles. We love camping in Palo Duro Canyon. It's so cool to be camping down inside and see the canyon walls above you. Neat place. Glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate your time watching the channel.
At least we could say that David is dry and no more mysteries with the dryer!🤪😜👍
Woohoo! 😆 🤣 😂 true! Thank you for watching the channel, Marco. Hope your projects go smoothly too!
You two have a good sense of humor. I would have gone crazy. Being on the road you run in the good the bad and the ugly. Please you two take care and I hope the next adventure doesn’t come with any spare parts.🤪🤪
Us too! And if life issues do need parts... then hopefully, we have the spares! 😆
Loved the video. The only thing that works all the time on a RV is the owners
😆 truer words were never spoken... that's the best description of RVing I have heard! 😆 It's a fun lifestyle but not always easy. Thanks for the chuckle. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
You guys always put a smile on my face and a laugh in my belly...you are great entertainment and so enjoy your videos. Hope to meet you on the road someday..maybe when you are in Yuma this winter....
That would be great. We'll be in Yuma towards the end of January. Maybe we'll try for another meet-up depending on our schedules... and how many more projects I have to complete! 😆
We will be on a cruise Jan 30 til Feb 17. Going to Hawaii for the 1st time. We stay out in the Foothills in Yuma not in a park
@susananderson618 sounds great. We are normally in the Pilot Knob or American Girl mine area or the VFW BLM area. Aloha
We live in Worland, wy and follow you. We take Rv tours thru Alaska on 60 day tours.
We've been through Worland a few times. Traveled through "Wind Canyon"? Beautiful area. Love the Big Horns. Volunteered at Yellowstone for 4 months with the National Park Service in 2019. Loved it. That's a nice amount of time on a tour. Caravan type tours? We met a few groups this summer.
our forth tour we are trek masters for Adventure treks from texas@@bigtruckbigtravels
Oh, could we ever compete with that one with our water heater story! Doesn't it make you appreciate a good working appliance after that though! Lol
Absolutely! I never take a working appliance for granted anymore!
I have broken my drier by trying to clean the lint from the place. I stuffed so hard down their I broke it. So I have to get it fixed. Can't wait for you to go west. Cheers NZ❤
Oh no! That sounds very frustrating. We're excited to be heading west. Thanks 😄
I love story time. That was a great RV Dryer Nightmare story. That time that Sondra received an Arctic blast from the dryer. Over and over again.
😆 good one. Love a good story... especially one with a happy ending!
You/we learned a lot !!!
A lot...school of hard knocks?!? 😆
Brilliant work and so aptly rewarded with a delicious burger.
Thank you 😋, Brendan. We were fuddling around with it for so long that we gained a lot of great experience! Glad it worked out!
Your a patient man! I would be ordering beer and beer!
😆 🤣 sometimes, my friend... sometimes...
You two had me laughing so hard.😂😂Glad you didn't let that dryer get the best of you. Thanks for sharing and as always wishing you safe travels.
Glad you enjoyed it, Linda. We were hoping everyone would find the humor in it.
Hi there! We really enjoy watching you two and following your adventures. We're full-time RVing and are actually here in Quartzsite for the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure we're in the very same spot you were in during this video. We wish you continued safe travels and hope we can say hi when you get here. Cheers!
Sounds great! See you next week!
Hi David and Sondra. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years. 20 below C here today. Winter finally came after a month of above seasonal temps.
Happy holidays! Brrrr... even in C that is cold! So cold it's almost the same as Fahrenheit!
You do not hear about the rv outlets often. You may want to check your other high load outlets in the kitchen. Those outlets are tough to get the wires into.
Very true, Charlie. Thanks. Going to check the others to be sure.
Americans turned away at the Mexico border? That’s ironic. Glad there wasn’t a dryer fire. We enjoy your content. Thank you.
LOL...I know, right?!? That seemed so weird that they wouldn't let us in to their country. We're really excited about NO fire! Thanks for the comment.
You should be able to reverse the door on that dryer so it opens up against the wall. Usually it is a pretty simple. Take the screws out on the hinge. Flip it over and install it on the other side after removing the latch that holds the door shut then the door will be out of your way when loading it and unloading it
I was told that you couldn't do that because of an electrical connection but I'm going to look at it. Thanks
@@bigtruckbigtravels usually the electrical connection for the dryer to realize the door is shut is just a switch at the top or the bottom. But other times it's the actual switch that clips the door shut and sometimes you have to physically move the wire over to the other side. But usually most manufacturers make it so you can reverse the direction of the door
So here’s a thing with that thermostat when you’re running your dryer make sure you let it go through the cool down. If you don’t and that thermostat is still ringing hot, it burns up I have to make sure that you let it cool down properly before turning it off just don’t open up the door and pull a piece of clothing or towel out and think your dryer is gonna be okayit’ll burn that thermostat out every time
Great suggestion! We'll remember to do that in the future. Hopefully, between the electrical outlet fix and your suggestion we are good to go for awhile.
👍so far so good
Very true. 😃
Hey can you come to Ohio. I have a dryer that needs work! 🤣😂It's only 40 years old! It has been making a screeching noise!😛😛
😆 it might be the cat! I'm trying to retire from the dryer!
When you come out west, you should come up to Vancouver BC. I've lived here for 51 years and have never considered moving anywhere else.
That is on our list. We want to get to Vancouver. BC is gorgeous.
Hi guy's I see David needs some new pants let's start a go fund me so David can get some new pants LOL
😆 🤣 that is good! Sondra made me get rid of them!
@bigtruckbigtravels take care happy camping
I took all my outlets out of that type. Caused a number of problems. Not a good connection at all.
Probably a good idea. We're going to check the rest.
Nice that the community could help. So was the original dry still good or did the electrical issue kill it? Look forward to each week video.
The electrical issue killed it. Donated to a neighbor who wanted to try and resurrect it.
Do you ever try to stay in RV parks? I have a 42 foot pulled by a F350 and many will not let me park. How do you avoid parks? You just go from the desert to truck/rest areas?
Great question. We boondock about 50-60% of the time. We virtually never stay at truck stops, we leave those precious spots to the truckers. We use Harvest Hosts for some overnights. We'll stay at Thousand Trails for about 70 nights a year and there are plenty of RV parks that we'll fit. We have to plan and research but our size has never prevented us from going where we want to go... except Mexico. We've never had an RV park refuse us entry.
What is the tool that helps you push the wires into the electrical box? We didn't know there was a tool for this either, but it sounds like something every RVer needs!
It's called an SCD tool or a Self Contained Device tool used for pressing wires into the junction box.
Ive always had propane dryers in RV electric never lasts as they never wire them properly, even if you never boondock and are on power hookups the wiring is still garbage and brown outs and under current burn out stuff..
We were tempted during the build to install propane but electric has been fine. Thanks
Love y’all in Alabama I’m from Leeds
Hey! We have family in Homewood & Huntsville.
Enjoyed the video.
Awesome, thank you!
Remember the saying nothing goes back in like the same way it comes out and always have a screw or something that you forget about
So true! Seems like there is always an extra "something" left over!
You might want to have someone check ALL of your receptacles. With the vibration of traveling down the road, that type of electrical connection can loosen over time, causing the wire to get very hot. I'm amazed you haven't had more issues with your electric. I can't fathom why Spacecraft would put such cheap parts (think late 70s-early 80s mobile homes) in such an expensive RV. Dangerous stuff.
Automotive swears by them. But we were talking about that the other day. Thanks 😄
I’d say use the desert as an advantage, the whole thing has an element. Just make sure you don’t do it during the rainy season.
We love the desert. It's a beautiful environment.
@@bigtruckbigtravels perfect place to enjoy the extremes of this planet.
Didn't you have some sort of warranty on that dryer? Couldn't you have gotten the new one for free or something? Also, what did you do with the old one once you took it out? I would like to think that you donated it to some place that could fix it and resell it like Habitat for Humanity or something like that?
The dryer was 4 years old so no warranty on it. Great thought! Thanks 😄
You should find a better connector that has set screws. It’s shocking to see that a trailer has push in wire connections. Quality electricians on residential installs won’t use those junk push in style plugs.
Anyways that’s just a electrical fire waiting to happen… maybe a marine type plug would be better
Thank you. We were surprised to see it connected that way.
Noticed the new dryer door opens the opposite way is it reversible
I didn't think so but I'm going to try.
Is your new dryer the same make and model? If so, are you going to cannibalize it for spare parts?
Same make and model but we gave our old one to a needy home who wanted to try and fix it.
i feel for you. it is funny though it seems like that every time you try to fix something yourself you end up losing a screw or something lol i've there myself.
Always! It never fails! 😆 🤣 Keep smiling and keep on trucking!
They just released the list on healthy fast food burgers and whattaburger got number one healthiest with in n out burger being number 2… the funny thing is Wendy’s got last and even got beaten by McDonald’s! You have to wonder how bad they are to be less healthy than McDonalds! Ouch…
I knew that I just felt better after a Whataburger... now, I know why! Thank you!
I’m curious about the denial at the Mexican border mentioned in passing. What happened?
Mexico does not allow an HDT (semi-truck) to cross the border except for two reasons: (1) it's a commercial truck hauling goods with proper documents or (2) it's going to be sold in Mexico. Those are the only two reasons they will allow an HDT to cross the border.
Who made the new dryer you purchased so I will never by accident buy one?
😆 Splendide
#31! I don't miss having electrical issues in my Class A nor issues involving W/D unit(s)! I couldn't help but wonder (and chuckle too, sorry!) why David tolerated the hanging cloths on his head while being in the "heat" of the dryer repair! Ask me how long they would have been hanging and dangling on my head! Did Sondra get more enjoyment out of filming all of that and positions she set her hubby up for??
😆 🤣 I didn't even think about moving them...I was focused on fixing the dryer! Thanks KB... still up there my friend! Go for number 1!
LOL.....I only give out the #'s to assure you I have hit that thumbs up button (not only commented) and when I did! Sometimes i don't but I always hit that LIKE/Thumbs up!@@bigtruckbigtravels
@@kbVACArestatecarsnrvs 😆 really appreciate your being here every week.
They say bad things happen in threes. So what's the story with the laptop taking a walk?
Grrrr... can't prove it but had one shipped to the RV park, signed for by the owner but he swears he never received it. Spoke to police and delivery company but nothing could be proved. Very irritating.
@@bigtruckbigtravels I am so sorry to hear that. It definitely makes you wonder.
can we get some more insight of stolen laptop??? did someone break in or what?
On the road fulltime, we had it shipped to our next stop which was an RV Park. Called ahead to ask permission and they said, "no problem". Laptop delivered with the signature of the owner of the RV Park by UPS. We show up a day later and I inquire during check in about the delivered package. He said nothing here for you. I show him the delivery signature and he denies it ever delivered. Let's me look around the office to no avail. Grrr...
@@bigtruckbigtravels wwooow i'm fulltime and my laptop has not left the rv, its a $3,000 msi laptop, if it got lost i would be irate to say the least.
Forget the dryer and laptop how did she survive without the carbonator for the soda machine? I bet that us why she hated that west Texas town
🤣😂🤔😂🤣I think you're correct! and for the record...she would not survive without the soda machine!

This sounds nuts, but I’m watching Dr Pimple Popper remove a lipoma, and I swear the patient sounds just like David.
Eeewww! That is DEFINITELY NOT me as the patient! 😯🤣😂
Glad to hear it!
Love watching your videos and am extremely interested in Quartzsite, as we are thinking about heading out west from NC next fall. My question is a general one .... do you drink the water from your freshwater holding tank? How often do you sanitize it, and do you also use filters at the camp pedestal and under each sink in addition to sanitizing the tank? Thank you!
Thank you. Yes, we drink from our fresh tank. I clean the tanks annually and use 7 water filters in the trailer. Since we use it fulltime and use the tanks weekly then there is a constant flow of water in the tank system so virtually no buildup.
Why don't you dry your clothes on a line outside? It's free, clothes smell fresh. Why waste electricity when the Sun is shining?
Depends. I think most RV parks don't allow that, but Quartzite might.
That's true... but with our solar, the dryer is also free... plus less dust.
I really don’t understand how he can put up with her constantly complaining
Not complaining but pointing out issues that may need to be addressed.
