    My dad bought a home in Eastgate in 1956, for $12,000. We moved out in 1964. I went back in 2010 to reminisce, and met a jogger who happened to be a realtor. I asked her what the price for my dad’s house would be then, and she said approximately $485,000. Wish I’d have bought that house from him in ‘64, but unfortunately, I was 7!

      I have a story like this one but with more regret. My parents lived with us in San Francisco and when my Dad was out of work he got a job offer on the East Coast. He was tired of looking and jumped at the job and we moved. They were planning on buying right at the beginning of the 1970s but my Dad couldn't put together a decent down payment. One day my godparents who owned their own business offered to lend my Dad the down payment on a house right in their neighborhood. The cost of the house was around $30,000. My Dad's pride wouldn't let him accept it and he never told my mother until long after we had moved. (my Mom wanted to stay in California). Those houses are now worth around $2.1 million!

    I will say Bellevue is a nice place to live and raise a family. It kind of reminds me of Brooklyn, NY. And just like Brooklyn, it’s also very expensive. It’s going to be even better when they get the lightrail there.

    • @LivinginSeattleWashington
      @LivinginSeattleWashington  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing!! Yes the lightrail will be a game changer. Its delayed by at least another year though, so now Summer 2024, maybe...

    I just moved to Pasco WA from Bellevue WA and tbh in Bellevue it costs a lot more but there mall is really good and there are alot of Asians and the Bellevue city park is a really good place to have your kids play at it's overall a good city the only bad things in my opinion is the cost of living there and the weather (except for summer) and the drug dealers but I liked living there

    Drizzle? We get heavy rain and not to mention fog in Seattle/Bellevue for about 9 months at least. Sometimes it’s combined. Not to mention all of the leaves and pine you accumulate just from getting in and out of your car. Those 3 months of our high 80s are the best but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t rain or that it isn’t cloudy/foggy

      Said the Spirit of the Lord to my heart, circa 1996:
      "Stop complaining about the rain! A snowy day and a rainy day are just as beautiful as a sunny day - they are simply three different kinds of beauty."
      I stood well-rebuked, Alexandra. And from that day forward, I have never again complained about the rain nor the snow but learned to give thanks for them both.
      Peace and love to you! :)

    Which school district has better schools? Bellevue, Lake Washington or Issaquah? Thank you.

      depends on who you ask... long time teacher here with two kids who attended Medina and Chinook prior to transferring them to a private school... both schools were great for my kids socially, but I didn't like the curriculum; the intense push has little regard for an individual child's development. I think Issaquah SD is a better district academically.

    Which is the cheapest place to rent among Bellevue, Seattle and Redmond ? I’m a grad school student who’ll be moving to Bellevue this summer for a 3 month internship. I’m looking for some affordable options.

    • @LivinginSeattleWashington

      In Bellevue you can expect to pay between $1500-$1900 for a studio or one bedroom apartment, depending on the neighborhood, apartment building, and amenities.

    Bellevue at its best was in the 80’s in my opinion. People/strangers smile and greet each other on the street. No traffic and more freedom to do… whatever… Just different energy in the air, but gone forever! No tech companies, no cell phones, no social media. More people home visiting and real physically gathering like shopping malls and movies. People trusted people.

    Can we talk about how no one can keep a neighbor. I grew up in Bellevue. Young tech family’s move to Bellevue buy their million plus home while playing keeping up with the jones. And are forced to sell and move out of the city within a year. I see it happen annually in my parents Bellevue neighborhood that I grew up in.
