MOST don't even realize that Juan Gabriel was the equivalent of an ELVIS, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Prince rolled into one person🤯 Very impressive. I live 30 minutes from Cd Juarez Mexico where he grew up and lived and began singing and he's still alive at every turn and street. His music and legacy rules there

This song came out back when artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Queen, Van Halen, and Prince were at the top of the world. And it still blew everyone’s minds back then. The same year Soda Stereo released their first album. I remember being a kid and stuck at the TV screen mesmerized by all those artists. If you want to know how good is something, don’t look for the audience; look how the children react.

I remember when the song and video came out, "Querida" was an instant hit like everything Juan Gabriel did. Whenever he came to my city Hermosillo, his concerts were sold out, also in the 70's he wrote a song for my city and it was one of his first musical hits; one of my biggest regrets is never having been able to have time to go to one of his concerts or those of Rocio Durcal when they came. This song is the closest thing I have to time travel. It takes me back to the 80's every time. My favorite Juanga song.
This is the original official video of the song. This was the radio version back then. In his concerts, Juan Gabriel liked to change and improvise a lot. He was the creator of his songs. He could do whatever he wanted and felt and it all looked and sounded good. He was a genius composer.

When I was a child, I started to like his songs. I still remember that “Corazón de Piedra” by Lucia Mendez was top hit; however, Juan Gabriel’s “Querida” revolutionize not only in Mexico, but also Latin America countries, Spain and the United States.
Yes…there’s no comparison from the music these days. You felt the music…chills all over your body…you felt the vibe their love and passion for music. Very few artist these days that actually give talent.

I remember that most of dance clubs at that time in Mexico used to close the dance floor by playing this song and everybody there knew that was time to go home while humming this song on the way out.

i was 11 in puerto rico when this came out. we listened to new wave, rock, menudo and other boy bands, latin american and spanish pop, merengue and salsa. i don’t remember seeing juan gabriel on tv but i loved this song. my friends and i knew the numbers for several radio stations and we’d call them one after the other requesting “querida.” as wonderful a performer as he was, i’ve never found a live version that does justice to this song. the nuances that i so love are only in this one recording. i couldn’t appreciate just why it was so great back then, i just knew that it was. thank you for this reaction and your appreciation for this song!
