The Silver coast, still one of the most balanced locations to live in Portugal in our opinion. A nice mix between the feel of central Portugal and the Algarve. Did you know about this silvery misty cloud of mystery? The first time we saw it it was a surprise for sure.

@Eight Miles from Home Portugal is a multi cultural diverse country. The reason everyone stays after a visit or two is exactly because you don't have to learn our language which by the way is one of the hardest to learn in the world. Even more than Mandarin or Russian. Just be yourselves. And pay no attention to people that challenge you to do certain things you don't have. Learn about our culture and achievements if you wish, but learning the language, isn't a priority. I'd be more impressed if you knew something about art. Our culture is very diverse. We have almost every conceivable type left by dozens of people that occupied or settled in Portugal in the last two thousand years. Do some research on that. No biggie. You can find a lot of places to visit around your place. Check out the Fauna and Flora. How people do the biological agriculture, how we still grasp at thousands of years know-how solutions and they still work. You guys are doing a terrific job by promoting my country out there. So that my country keeps being that lovely place you can hang your hat, get some Earl Grey tea pull up your feet and watch the sunset with Edit Piaf on the radio. 🙏
      So say we all. 🖖

My Beautiful Baleal. Love to see all the starfish 😊
As you know, I took Portuguese lessons almost immediately after arriving. My teacher is wonderful and she does private (in your home) and group lessons (at Obidos castle which is fun). I knew nothing about the language before arriving ... and I found it really challenging (wish I learned when I was young) but it was so worthwhile.
I found that there were a lot of people who didn’t speak English, on the Silver Coast, in the winter. All the younger people were back in school and the older people spoke and understood very little English and that was OK. Better for me, in learning. I will say, thank goodness for Google Translate, at times. Although it’s the Brazilian Portuguese (Google needs to add European Portuguese!!) it helped in a pinch.
Portuguese is so beautiful, and diverse... so much to see and explore but for me - to live... it’s got to be the Silver Coast.
    Lovely video 🤗 Obrigada ~

Jen Shea Dear lady there is something intriguing me... in several foreign vlogs about Portugal, your name is very common with very nice words about our culture, our rich patrimony and our amazing nature. And you show a strong knowledge about us and our things. So here is my question : are you portuguese under that name or are you british, american, whatever, or are you acultured and in love with Portugal? Just being curioso, i'm not a sick minded guy.

      @@sergiocarvalho5459 Olá Sergio,
I appreciate your question. Obrigada ~ I am Canadian. :)
After a really difficult time in my life I got the privilege of renting a friend's house in Atouguia, for 3 months. I've always felt an affinity to Europe, especially the latin culture, however I really didn't know what to expect when I arrived in Lisboa. All I can say is within hours of arriving I was in love and within days of living in Atouguia, I felt like I was home. I miss it every single day. I am planning to move to Portugal (I can because I'm self-employed) but I've got things I have to take care of at home first.
I fell in love with the music (huge Fado fan here & I have found some non-fado singers like Salvador and Luisa Sobral) and I love learning what I can about the culture and the history. I so appreciated the people. So pleasant, not pushy, just going about their daily lives. I took some Portuguese lessons soon after I arrived (not easy for me to learn but I try) and I know the people appreciate my efforts. I was told that the Portguese people would remind me of Canadians. A little, but gentler. :)
I love to travel but I'm not the type who wants to stay on a resort and live like a North American. I want to live like a local. I want to get to know my neighbours and understand the way they live.
I love NYC, and I love Lisboa, but I do prefer to live a little more rural. In a small town, close to the Ocean.
I would be really happy to find a permanent home in Atouguia, if not, close by. Even as far as Lourinha, Atalaia, Obidos, perhaps. As long as I have a car and can explore Portugal often.
For now I live with saudades.

@@lisameecher8628 i understand that. I'm on TH-cam since 2006. Heard a lot, seen even more. But one can only go so far using creativity. I mean. How many times can a person use the same country name in a sentence? I'm surprise they still do it. It's not bait in my view. All their stuff is made for deeply spiritual people. And not everyone is in that "mood". Cheers.

@@lisameecher8628 well.. Thankfully you do not speak for the majority of "people kind". Nor you will sway anyone's opinion anytime soon. If indeed you call yourself an "influencer". There are no facts to support your "conclusions". And before you say "facts literally speak from themselves". No one is twisting your arm. You can always watch another channel instead of trying to make other people to agree with you. Maybe you're right maybe you're wrong. It's a possibility.
