FYI, if you travel Premium economy plus, your trays are in the side pocket so the tray cover will not work. Also, is the 15.6" backback big enough to hold everything? Do you think the 17 or 18" would be better? Or will they not fit under the seat in front of you? I have a TUMI that I travelled with me while working (airplane every week) but it does not have the depth to hold a compression bag. Last time I took it to Europe, I had my clothes take up half the space in the bag with just a few items. I do like the weight of it though and the "squishability." Thanks for posting your videos. I have been enjoying them! Leaving for Lake Como in September.

at your recommendation, I bought the airplane tray cover with pockets as you showed in this video, and I actually pack the essentials I will be using on the plane ride right into those pockets and as soon as I get on the plane, I slip it right over the tray and then fold the tray back up until we are in the air...ezpz! No need to dig through my bag once I sit down in my seat to get this stuff all ready for my flight!

HINT: When we last flew in Dec. our plane was changed to a Dreamliner. We flew WestJet. On the Dreamliner there is no tray from the back of the seat in front. The trays all come up from the side of the seats. The airplane tray cover would not have worked on that particular plane. Be sure you know ... google image search for the seats on the particular plane, specific to the airline you will be travelling on. :)

Use clear freezer baggies that come in all sizes. They are cheap and clear and the freezer ones are a bit thicker. I take extra baggies to use while on vacation. They always come in handy for a million purposes.

I absolutely adore using Ziploc bags because they fit nicely into my backpack, prevent leaks & are waterproof, slide in/out easily, weigh nothing, can eliminate too much air in the bag or add air to protect things, and work much like a vertical file system! I label the bags with different colored Sharpies so at a glance I can figure out whether it's medication (T1D- carry LOADS of pump supplies & other meds), electronics, or my spare clothes. Checkpoint Charlie is already frustrating & anxiety-inducing. Being able to see things clearly labeled makes it so much easier when I need to grab a bag and figure out its contents. I've tried so many of the cute toiletry or travel type bags, but I always go back to a clear plastic zip bag. I also like having things labeled because when it's time to return home from my trip, I know exactly where my belongings need to be. 😁😉 Glad to see I'm not the only one that prefers this system. ❤️

One suggestion is if you do not have a lot of pockets and choose to use smaller pouches to stay organized. When you are packing take a photo of the pouch and all the items inside. If you have different color or types of bags that might be helpful. I have also used a label maker and placed the labels so I can see them when I look into the bag.

I took a smallish carabiner on a recent trip to the UK, only travelling by trains/bus/taxi. During the flights, I packed my down jacket into its pocket and used the carabiner to attach it to my (rather full) personal item bag -- as I check a bag and only take a small backpack on the plane. Then in the UK, on a rainy day I used it to hang my very wet umbrella off my handbag when it wasn't raining or I was indoors. You can also use it to hang a toiletry bag off a hook. I think they are so handy!

100%. My personal bag is a LoveVook backpack and I love it. Flying to my destination it was not overpacked, BUT coming home on my return flight for some reason it was overstuffed and it was almost unmanageable. Thank goodness our flight, in economy plus and first class was almost empty and I had an empty seat to sit the bag on and unload anything so I could search inside.

Just an idea, if you have one T shirt in that small cube in your personal item bag, you could take it out and fit a solid colour tank/shell and 3 or 4 translucent scarf-like tops that layer over the same tank into the same amount of space. A lot more clothing options in the same footprint, as long as you wash the tank out each night. The microfiber ones that Chicos sells have a lovely silky texture and will absolutely be dry by morning.

Can’t stress enough taking a change of clothes! We checked luggage last year and they were delayed by about 18 hours. We were wearing clothes for a cooler overnight flight and landing in a hot humid city. We were able to change into shorts and enjoy our day even without the suitcases. Heads up. Watch your under the seat in front of you bags. Five hours into a ten hour flight the young person in front of me was tugging on my backpack trying to pull it up to her. She probably would have cleaned me out. All my valuables were in it! Probably thought the old lady (me!) was asleep by now. I rest my both feet on it and felt her tugging! Never trust anyone!!

For a makeup brush bag I use an old umbrella case. My umbrella had broken and I was going to throw it away. I looked at that small drawstring bag that holds the umbrella and thought about my makeup brushes. I turned it inside out, cut off the extra length from the bag and had a drawstring bag for my brushes. It has worked great!

I am the person who doubles, triples, and at times quadruple checks my personal bag before I leave for the airport. I’m always so freaked out I’m going to forget something. sadly, Mrs K's medical needs pretty much fill her carryon. I have a personal rule that I completely empty anything I am going to be packing in, before I start packing, and then start my air trip outfit with empty pockets. it can save an awkward situation in security, as has hit headlines this spring. I'm also the checklist guy. I make a checklist for what I am taking and where it gets packed. then it goes into a bag with paper copies of all the specifics of the trip, like hotel reservations, rental cars, etc. I also, if I can, print a paper copy of my boarding pass and put it in my passport as a bookmark, although on our last trip, Alaska wanted to do it paperless.

Bless your heart, a mammogram is exactly the way to describe being in an airplane seat these days!! Don't think I'll be able to get that image out of my mind next time I'm flying LOL! I make sure I will not have to get anything out of my personal item bag during the flight by placing everything I might need en route in either a pocket or my tray table pockets thingie (the one you mention here, it is such a travel game changer, I don't know how I ever flew without it) after I go through security. That way, there's no fumbling required.

I love my Lovevook bag as well. CATSA leaving Vancouver was a NIGHT MARE for me. I was in a wheel chair and had no control over what was put up on the belt, in the grey bin etc. There was an wheel chair attendant and he was putting my stuff in bins and on the belt. I was trying to watch all my items, and we were rushed as we waited over 2 hrs. for wheel chair at the check in desk. My C-pap machine ended 3 conveyor belts over!! I had to call my daughter back into the CATSA area to go and retrieve it for me. Plus, I had bought clear bags on Amazon with the correct size according to the CATSA website. The agent tore my bag apart, and literally dumped my liquids bag upside down into my personal bag and told me I had the wrong type of bag, and that I was to use the plastic bags they provide in the CATSA area. * I was also in the special line for people with disabilities etc. as it was supposed to be less stressful for me and my family was altogether with me. I had to ask for some bags for future use, return flight... I politely told her I had checked on CATSA website and went by the guidelines and had no idea the plastic bags were supplied in their line. Also she of course discovered my small crochet bag with my yarn, project, acrylic hook and a pair of specific very small scissors that were allowed by the size I had researched. She called out to her supervisor, who then told her that those were allowed and were in the size parameters. She was in a "MOOD" and was really not a helpful nor patient person. She was downright rude. She is exactly the type of agent that everyone warns about. I thought all would be fine and that all was an exaggeration. NOPE!!!

🇦🇺 Aussie traveler here! I like to travel with a 7kg personal item only, and a thin hip belt to go in the airplane seat pocket with my phone and wallet inside.
A tip from me is that if a personal item bag is important to you, don’t accept upgrades to the emergency row. You get the leg room but they won’t let you put a bag under the seat to keep the aisle clear.

I watched another video about TSA agents stealing from your bags as you walk thru the screening. It was suggested putting id/passport, etc, deep into a pocket to make it difficult for them to get to. Best if zipped. I will use the little double caribiners you showed us to secure the zipper. Not locked but harder for them to get to. In other counties, I've had to remove my money belt. It will also go deep into a zippered pocket.
    I love your videos.

Something to just know is that different airports have different TSA requirements. For example, SFO (San Francisco) doesn't require you to remove your shoes UNLESS there's heightened security that they're watching out for. A friend who works for FEMA so travels a lot told me that this is happening because airport security is being upgraded so if an airport has already been upgraded then the shoe rule has changed. When I was traveling through Philadelphia in May, they made me put all of my electronics & liquids back into my personal item before they would send it through the scanner. So just be prepared for changed conditions. Love your videos.

For me the more pockets the personal backpack have the better. And if the items i put in those pockets are smaller i still use some sort of pouch for them. Anything i may need on the plane and even on the airport while waiting goes in the outside pockets like chargers, glasses , cords , medication , iPad . Then in the outside smaller pocket i put my extra change of clothes - instead of cubes i fold them flat and put in a ziplock bag , then i pull the air out of it , the whole thing becomes almost flat and fits perfectly in that pocked without bulge it - those clothes are for just incase the once i wear get dirty from something at the airport or in the plane , and i can easy grab them without opening and dig in the the main pocket for them. Then anything else goes inside the bag. For me also less reasons to open the main pocket the better , that way curious eyes can't see where is what .

But for the carry on one id say it gives you a protection from thefts - no one can easily remove it without being noticed by you or everyone else around. Cheap amazon thing that is helpful in more than one way and not just for some fashion , and i don't see any travel gurus mention them , and i know a lot of people may have not even heard about it.
