Laurie, a tip you might want to consider. I bring one or two cardigans to mix and match with my tops but I use the carigans as tops by themselves with a silky scarf. Because the scarves take up little to hardly any space, I have more wearable options. I really enjoy your videos. Anne
I started to take pictures of myself in the outfits before going. That way when I’m tired from traveling and can’t remember all my outfit ideas I just have to look at my phone. 😂 it also helps me to organize my packing list to what I know I will wear. I used to have these cute ideas for outfits and then never wear them.
I am just finishing a 3 week European trip in a carry on. 😊 I didn't think I could do it. Merino wool dresses saved the day and it was 80-90 degrees. Also I marked packing cubes with contents which helped keep things orderly (sharpie on painter's tape).
I have saved the plastic zip covers that many sheets and pillowcases come in and they are perfect for toiletry containers, brushes and hair products, etc. my husband loves them, too.
Hi Laurie - I know this is not really relevant to this video content but I wanted to share for other viewers. I have just traveled from London to Paris and Brussels to London via Eurostar trains. I was in Standard Premier class (right in the middle). Everywhere I read that I would be able to access the Eurostar Lounges in the train stations using my Amex Platinum. However, when we tried to enter, we were told that, although Amex Platinum cards do entitle holders to entry, if the card is issued in the US they will not let you in. Just want to give others a heads up! Thanks for everything you do!!
Hi, Laurie! Just had to thank you for all your great packing tips. Just got back from 14 days in Italy. Using your tips (Level 8 20” carry on and an underseat bag), capsule wardrobe and Katie Wells 5-4-3-2-1 method, I had everything I needed without overpacking. First time in my life that I can say this!!!🎉
@@brendaendries8584 I packed a capsule wardrobe based on navy & white 5-4-3-2-1 method. The weather was much warmer than I had expected (end of September), so “travel” outfits were a bit warm. If I were to go again, I’d pack more natural fabrics like cotton or linen and accept the wrinkles. Make sure you have good shoes for walking. Did laundry along the way. (5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 “overs” like light jacket or sweater, sun protective clothing, 2 prs of shoes, 1 dress). Just used carryon and personal bag; best to keep it light and simple if you are planning to travel by train. Hope you have a great time.
I'm a frequent (very) long-haul flyer and I love your videos! Many years ago, i discovered a cheap black bag/backpack that's designed for mums carrying baby items and diapers. It has a b&w striped wipeable lining and multiple pockets (not too many, though). It also has two spaces for bottles on the outside, in one of which i keep my eye mask and sunglasses case. I sewed a couple of small d-rings to the outside just above one of the bottle spaces to which during the flight I clip lip balm, hand cream, and a tiny torch. They don't dangle around because they fit comfortably beside the mask and case inside the bottle space. I also sewed a piece of wide elastic to the back of the bag. In the airport, I slip it over the pull-out handle of my cabin roller. That way, the bag sits on top of the cabin roller without sliding off. The best thing about this bag is that the zipper to the main compartment is on an angle, so when you open it you can see most of the contents of your bag straight away. After trying out so many personal item bags over the years, I finally found the perfect one.
Two items that I have purchased per your recommendations are the striped personal bag/backpack (so roomy) and the little RIFD wallet. Thank you for reviewing them in the past as they are fantastic items. Have a glorious day.
I have organized my storefront finally: www.amazon.com/shop/traveltipsbylaurie and I am trying to create an Amazon one for Prime Day next week but do not think it'll happen.
Just an update. From watching your precious videos where Chris addresses airplane nervous flyer issues I am so much more comfortable flying! Just flew to Florida and back to Boston over the weekend and I wasn’t nervous at all and they weren’t super smooth flights. At times I was resting and daydreaming and “forgot” I was on a plane. That never happens to me :). THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!
Just jumping in here to say that I had the same experience! I've always had recurring nightmares about planes. I was in agonizing knots with fear about flying for an family emergency trip, but that video eased my mind so much I was able to fly from FL to IN (with layover in ATL) round trip -- four plane rides total -- and each one was easier than the one before. I just kept thinking about the info that planes are over-engineered for safety and turbulence is basically air speed bumps. Thank you SO much to you and your husband. I can't believe it, but I'm actually excited to fly again! Never, ever thought I'd say that.
One tip I heard that I find useful is to take out your kitchen scales while deciding what to pack and individually weigh items - its surprising how much heavier certain fabrics are than others. Things like lightweight blouses weigh far less than most t-shirts for example. That way you can often fit in more items
On my recent 4,000 km trip to visit my mother, I did check the weather, and got my clothes and shoes down to 1 carry on. The trouble is, it ended up being warmer than had been forecast, and the guest room had no air conditioning and was an oven. I had 2 short sleeve tops with me, but they did not dry quickly enough. I ended up getting Mum to drive me to her local Marshalls so I could pick up a couple more dressier T's. What I learned from that is to have more short sleeve/sleeveless tops, and only a couple of longer sleeve ones that could layer over those. I never wear a top twice without washing it in between, but if you have a long sleeve top over a T, it can be worn more than once between washes. Also, I am learning to do more with silk scarves - not just wear them around my neck or as a shawl, but styling them as tops, cover ups, even dresses. They take up virtually no space for packing.
Hi, i saw a previous video of yours before this one. I started watching for packing tips. I am a single mom and have to take my son 2.5 hrs away to the childrens hospital a few times a year. There is always a lot of bags, backpack, and 1 huge roller. Trying to get more creative and pack smarter. One thing is to try and label, and use clear small bags for things so i can see what's in it without having to rummage through everything because i forgot where one darn thing was.
Colombia fishing shirts for women are fantastic to pack. They dont wrinkle. They are waterproof-ish, have uv protection and are easy to wash in the sink or spot clean and drip dry. Im in Ireland and we wear them all over europe and other countries
Just returned from a 10 day Mediterranean cruise with only a carry on and a backpack. Didn't think I could do it, but it worked out great! I even had one outfit that I didn't wear! Thanks for all of your tips.
This video is amazing and so helpful! We are doing the carry on method next spring and I am learning so much from you. I appreciate you and all your efforts!
Just got back from a two week trip that I did carry on only, I liked it, I need to downsize some more on shirts, I only carried one pair of shoes and I wore those. Thanks for all your advice.
Hi Laurie I was wondering why you don’t use ziplock bags? I pack all my cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, etc in ziplock bags. I used to use cosmetics bags but ziplock bags take no room at all! I also used ziplock bags for underwear and socks. You can really compress them!
I love ,love ziplocks !! I've been using 'em for my traveling/ moving !! Just let you know ,they don't sell ziplocks in U.K.,I was stunned !( 2022 ) 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
I'm paying close attention to your tips once again. We're planning 2 big trips in the next few months. By the way, my Mom used oatmeal in her meatloaf too! She also shredded a potato into it. With 5 kids and lots of piano lessons, little league and other interests; we never went without. "Pinching a Penny" should be a required class in high school. Lol.
I packed in a level 8 carry on and a Beis weekender bag as my personal item, for a 2 week trip to Croatia. The only comments I got were in Munich changing flights… saying my Beis bag looked as big as a carry on. It fit under the seat so I made it! We had several air bnb’s with washers and hung our clothes in the Mediterranean sun to dry. Great trip! Oh, and I used compression bags which made a world of difference 😅
Our first long-haul flt DFW to Heathrow, three days in London, then 12-night cruise (Norway and Iceland) next summer. Thank goodness the cruise ship has laundry facilities! It can be done. Great video and review all the tips and tricks. Thank you, Laurie. (Wife of a DFW pilot).
So agree with you on packing. Because I wear a ton of colors, I pack black bottoms and tend to go in summer to Europe so it works great. I don't wear my Florida flamingo shirts but at least purple, reds or some type of colors and everything goes together as you have said. Also, I wear earrings at my destinations so everything coordinates with those chosen colors. I like the idea of less and though I differ in your color choses I go with the same amount of clothes. Thanks so much for your helpful advice and hope you thrive!! Enjoy!
We are heading to Israel in Nov. like a couple of people here. I've been watching tons of your videos. I picked up your recommended Peeps eyeglass cleaners, which are great and the flat bendable phone stand. The stand is so handy for other items too. We are sharing one medium checked piece, and a carry on along with backpacks. My plan is to put our CPAP machines in the carry on luggage to avoid extra items to keep track of, so minimizing what we bring for clothing will be very important.
Again a great video - thank you very much - love your videos. ❤ I have now tested packing again with your advice of colour combinations. I just put out a thicker sweater and put in a light cardigan and so I got additional space for two more shirts. Together with your folding methods of another video, it worked out perfectly. Result of weight still the same, but more clothes 😊 packed: 7 kgs (15,5 lbs) carry-on (20" light carry-on suitcase) and 2 kgs (5 lbs) personal item (very light weight shoulder bag). Here is a tip for bulky clothes as I already told in folding video: For my international flight to Seattle (carry-on and personal item - weight restriction total (12 kgs/26 lbs) I will take with me my beloved woolen cardigan (hand-knitted by my granny) - just putting it in a zip pillow cover. So, I have an additional pillow for flight, it does not count as personal item and fits easily between handles of my carry-on suitcase.
I'm thinking about getting that neck pillow to carry PJs, outerwear, and underwear. It doesn't matter if they get wrinkled and would save room in my suitcase. Thanks for showing it.
Thank you for sharing your helpful experience! I pack a foldable fabric shopping bag in my personal item. After boarding, I pull out what I know I will use during the flight and then put my personal item and my shoes in the shopping bag, tie it up, and I can rest my feet on it.
I couldn’t believe it when you mentioned your trip to Canada and you showed a clip of the Narrows coming out of St John’s harbour! I live there and am doing some travel research for our trip to Jamaica in two weeks. Hope you enjoyed your trip! Looks like you had at least one good weather day😊
Something I've done for several trips - Alaska, Australia, Costa Rica & Portugal is pack 1 outfit that is NOT what you expect the weather to be! In Alaska we wore shorts in Anchorage for a bike ride around town. Also on another Alaska trip the weather was warmer than usual & others wore sweaters & were so miserable. We'd checked weather one day before departure, & made some changes. Going to a warm climate? ONE long sleeve/long pants outfit for the chilly air conditioning or weather change. Mother Nature has a perverse sense of humor!!
The TUBE has also an inside zipper pocket. I won’t travel without it. I get a whole outfit, undergarments and pajamas in it. If you choose not to use it as a neck pillow leave in the overhead compartment with your carry on, that’s usually what I do.
Over the years, my go to packing item is the Hefty zip lock freezer bags (gallon and quart sizes). They are a little thicker than the Hefty food storage bags and they have a nice quick zipper. They aren't the most sturdy storage packing item you'll ever have, but you can see what's in them and they are thin enough where they don't take up hardly any room. I've tried different 3-1-1 bags and other small bags to hold cords and other things, and this is the item I go to. Plus, I can just slide them into pockets in my luggage. They hold my liquids, power cords, chargers, etc., and keep like things all organized together. I also take several extra empty ones for any food storage or even some wet or dirty clothes.
Thank you for all the wonderful content and packing list! I have traveled to long with too much stuff(i.e. Greece four islands 3 large luggage and back pack for 14 days ) trying to get to London in 3wks in carry on only for 8 days. Wish me luck! Also thanks for your honest reviews of products , I’ve purchased several including my level 8 luggage because of you and am very happy with everything😊
Hi Laurie. Great tips as always. One thing I always take on every trip is my Scotte Vest. It has a lot of pockets so I can take more than what my little cross body bag holds (but I still take that too.).
Just found your channel; thank you!! Times, luggage, tech, and the 'Savage Baggage Handler' have changed so much over the years. Compression bags....who knew?
Your videos are always full of helpful tips. We're headed to Italy next week and watching the weather closely to make sure we take what we need. Btw, my mother put oats in her meatloaf, so of course I do too!
I love your videos!!! I am surprised you didn’t start with shoes as you have suggested in the past. When I started building my vacation wardrobe that way I have had no problems with going carryon only.
I just got some Rip Skirts to wear next time I travel instead of pants since they take up very little space. This opens up more room for other items and souvenirs for the trip home. I like the long black rip skirt because it goes with almost anything. They have some thin shorts you can wear under them since they are wrap skirts but I find unless it is super windy, they cover well. I always look for items that will do double duty so I can pack less. Less stuff = less things to worry about on a vacation. Less worries = more fun!
BTW, I reverse the first step - I pack only one other pair of shoes (and flat slippers/beach shoes - fitkicks, which take up virtually no space) , but 2 bottom pieces (1 pair dressier pants, 1 pair capris or skirt or leggings, depending on weather). All bottoms are the same colour, usually black, so all tops go with all bottoms.
Great tips! Gotta be strategic before you start packing anything into your bag. I try to limit to two pairs of shoes per person (one worn, one packed) as things like that really add up when packing for a family of 5. 🌺Heidi
I am planning for a 13 day Mediterranean cruise vacation in June. I plan to take 4 linen shifts with I 😊cotton half slip, 2 shorts, 2 long pants, 4 short sleeve shirts, 4 long sleeve pieces for layering, 3 pairs of shoes. I will only wear 4 pieces on the plane and 1 pair of shoes. I hope it all fits in carryon. I ordered packing cubes today. Thankfully summer clothes are lightweight. Everything is curated to be the lightest scrunchiest possible.
If I am packing for cold weather I wear 1 pair of pants and pack 2. Then I pack about 5 tops that can mix and match. I pack 2 pairs of shoes like a dressy pair and slides for the pool. I wear my gym shoes. I do pack 2 pairs of underwear per day. I do pack bulk on underwear. Lol. For warmer weather it's easier for me. What was challenging for me was packing for cold weather. I have packed a carry on and underseater and took that on trips. The carry on goes in the over head bin, , and the underseater goes under the seat. If I want the extra space to bring stuff back. Never had a problem with taking both the carry on and underseater on the plane. Thanks Laurie for all your tips. They have been very helpful.
If I have a packing restraint on a trip, I will often pack an appropriate sized compression cube with a handle in my carry-on or personal bag that will accommodate anything I need to “wear on the plane“ just to get it on the plane. Then, when I get on the plane, I can put all of those items in the compression cube for safekeeping on the flight. When it’s time to get off the plane, I have a small loop that hooks to the handle of my carry-on or personal bag that I can then thread through the handle of the compression cube so that it doesn’t get lost as I go to my next flight or leave the airport. If I’m someplace where I’m going to need a coat, gloves, hat, etc. I can put all of those in the compression cube so that they’re easy to get out when get to get to my destination.
Laurie, I love watching your videos! I have not flown in years and things are so different. Your tips are so smart and insightful. I am like a knowledge junky writing down tips for upcoming domestic trips with my husband. All of our kids are grown and we are used to doing driving travel vacays. After hearing your advice I think I am going to buy both of us a 20inch carryon with personal item backpacks just to be on the safe side. We live in Pittsburgh, Pa and we plan to travel to Salem, Savannah and Orlando. I too want to visit Pioneer Woman's Hotel but that will have to be a planned girls trip!😅
I just wanted to add my recent experience. I took a trip to a northern destination this summer, and we had a rainy week. Although I brought a raincoat and umbrella, I had not considered my jeans. I bought a pair of the newer wide leg jeans. They were long, and after walking around, the bottoms of the jeans were very wet. In the future, I will only pack my ankle jeans.
Yes! What a great trip. Same thing happened to me in Mount Rushmore wearing wide legged super cute drapey pants. I do have this video you may like: bit.ly/DoNotWearAirplane
Hi Laurie- My name is Leslie and I just found your site. What a wonderful , informative site! My husband and myself are retired and are traveling a lot these days. Our next adventure is to the Baltic Sea on a cruise ship. We have the same backpack :) You have great taste-hahahah Have wonderful day --Leslie
Thank you for all the tips. Do you have any tips for how people can cut down on germs when flying? I have contamination OCD so I would like to wash my seat and tray table. Is that allowed? Will I be laughed at?
Hi, you can pack baggies of antibacterial wipes in several spots of your bag. When you sit, wipe everything down if you want to. No one makes fun of anyone these days.
I am traveling one month and my goal is to pack a carryon that is 17.5lbs. I am allowed a carryon and personal item on the first flight but only one item with size and weight restrictions for the second flight. It is tough! I plan on one lightweight quick dry pants, two wool& dresses, three tops, one long sleeve wool top, one lightweight icebreaker jacket, two scarves, two belts, one wool leggings, one extra bra, underwear, wool socks. I have a waterproof flip flop for beach and showers, a pair of sandals, and waterproof very lightweight hikers. I don’t wear makeup so my toiletries are minimal. I will bring one warm hat and one brimmed hat, extra glasses and sunglasses. I have a rain poncho vs coat. I have a bag to use as a day pack/ purse for ID etc.
Tip for wrinkled clothes: pack an empty cosmetic size spray bottle. At your destination, fill with water and gently spray wrinkled clothes. Most wrinkles will come out as the clothes dry. However, don't try this on delicate fabrics like silk as it may leave water spots.
Thank you for this helpful tips. I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks. No check-in. Just my sling bag, carry-on, and travel backpack. I plan to buy a vuccum beg to have enough clothes to create space for luggage
I never wear everything I take, even after years of packing as minimally as possible. 😂 Minimal for me means wearing a couple of tops plus an oversized outer layer, and a pant or jean, and my heaviest shoe on plane. Then in my bag is just one more bottom and maybe a dress and sandal if it’ll be warm, pajamas, and one extra panty and socks. If I can do laundry at destination, I try not to take more than that because nobody will care if you wear same piece every other day, as long as it’s clean. 😂 Taking too much just robs you of space to bring back souvenirs. 😊 But it’s good to see all different styles of packing because some want to have different outfits every day, I guess.
Hi Laurie...great video as always.....thanks for sharing! I travel for 2 weeks with an underseat spinner...and only my purse....not large. Thanks to your advice, I feel less stress!!
How about packing tips for a business trip. Leaving from warm Houston to a cold North Dakota 20 below plus. One week with three business meetings. I would love to hear your ideas.
Whew! I would find pants or business outfit bottom pieces that can be worn with one pair of shoes. Then tops to change it up-maybe a small scarf too. Then you have another pair of boots in the suitcase plus your shoes in the airplane outfit.
Question: Is hair color permitted in checked bags? I’ve been informed it’s ok, as long as each container is not more than 18ounces. (I believe they count it as part of that group of toiletries that has a limit.) the kind I am referring to is the hair color where you mix a developer into an application bottle. I just want be sure I am doing everything right. Thanks.
HELP! I’ll be traveling to the Northwest in September and will only be allowed 26 pounds of carry-on, including a personal item, on the SEAPLANE. I get it how to take many things in small compact packing, but HOW do I only take 26 pounds for 6 days??? Thanks for all your great travel tips!!!
Laurie, do you have a video which covers taking/packing summer dresses for a cruise in Florida ? Can I plan to pack a couple of dresses in addition to my pants/tops? I'll be taking a personal item and carryon and will be travelling in Business class .
That bag you can stuff with clothes (ok, underwear) that you clip as a pillow to your carry on? It makes the best pillow in a hotel, too, when hotel pillows are too soft. I have found that places like Japan in summer, I need 2 long pants because I sweat SO MUCH. Wash one, wear the other. I assume people have separate sleepwear?
I know this is an old video, hope you see the comment. Love your tips and hacks. I’m an experienced packer, but can always learn something new! What is your rationale behind 1 pair of bottoms and 2 pairs of shoes vs 2 bottoms and 1 shoes? Also, and I think I know the answer to this, what about dresses and skirts - your thoughts on those?
Great timing! This is still very much a current concept for packing in carry-on only. Remember that you have your travel outfit clothing AND shoes for the airplane. If you make everything mix and match (for the most part), you can pack in only a carry on with these pieces. Add a dress if it can be worn multiple times or a skirt.
Hi Laurie! Love all of your videos, now that you have taught me to pack in a carry on only and get over my anxiety of flying.. I would love to know your top destinations within the US and not for tranquil turquoise pretty waters and white sands .. thinking of planning a family vacation ( my kids are grown) ty❤
Rapid City (patriotic program at night) with the Badlands (audio tour on trip advisor), Vermont and Maine, Montana and Frisco/Silverthorne in the summer too.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie. Hi Laurie, I’d love for you to do a video on your favorite places to travel for each season. Things to do, see, experience etc. I’m always looking for a new place to visit.
So the Apple AirTag did not always track our luggage on our trip from OR to Edmonton CAN. Also, our carryon luggage that was accepted on our Airlines was not accepted on WestJet for Canada. Their requirement is really small!
It’s easy to get into trouble with carryon size and more importantly the weight. Always check with each airline that you are traveling on. Overseas the check in desk agents are extremely strict and will make you check that carryon.
i watched some of these influencers "guides" to carryon luggage and what I find surprising is the promotion of "just over 9 or 10 " thickness, even larger, when this dimension. Heavy around 4kg, givin the limit weight is either 10kg or even 7.5 kg on the majority o airlines. Not even mentioning the PRICES... It is now when I realise the gap between the 1% and the rest of us..Soft backpacs is the way to go, around 8-9" thickness, around 1kg empty..Cheers from the bottom feeders
Ha! We do not have to worry about weight on most domestic flights. Just check your airline's rules before choosing luggage and before packing...after you check the weather.
My personal bag has to have all my meds and toiletries and these are bulky. Hearing aids can be a problem as the charger goes with them and sometimes tsa doesn’t know what it is and it has to come out to be checked. I guess my packing is not only clothes so i get stressed. But I will try again.
Hi, my aids charger case has not had to be brought out yet. If you can pack them vertically or horizontally maybe some of these things will open up more space for ya.
I'm leaving for the UK in 2 weeks for a 12 day vacation with only a carry-on. Not only flying from US to Edinburgh but also flying from Edinburgh to Bristol, train from Bristol to bath and train from bath to london. So lots of traveling. What are your thoughts about laundry services in the middle of the trip?
Hi Laurie, I am going on a trip next week and I want to bring a candy treat for the flight crew. Who do I give it to and when and how? Thanks! Love all your videos!
I would give it to the flight attendants as they make their rounds before the flight takes off? Or wait until the seat belt sign goes off and go to the back and give it to one of them. So sweet! You could tell the person right when you get onboard and ask when you should give it to them?
All great tips!! Ecco, however, does not have a wide width. Neither do Chacco boots. I do have Chacco Sandals that are perfect and available in wide. Any other suggestions for all day wear and waterproof lightweight booties?
Hi and thank you! All links are in the first comment and below each video in the description paragraph. Here are the boots I mentioned: Black waterproof boot: bit.ly/3PnGHRw Tan waterproof boot: bit.ly/44eHNnr
Laurie, I know garment bags have gone by the wayside these days, including duffle bags, but I saw this travel channel that did a video short on Halfday's 2-in-1 garment duffle bag. The TH-cam channel OCD Traveler did a video short on this duffle. It looks like there was extra room for aircompression bags (which wasn't used in the video short). Only draw back was it doesn't have wheels! I thought the bag had an interesting concept on how it was designed. Have you done a review on this duffle bag?
After posting my comment, I came across another garment duffle that was similar. It has wheels with a telescopic handle and slot to be carried on top of a suitcase. This one only had one pocket for shoes but had enough room to add another pair in the main section of the duffle. It also had a side pocket and smaller pockets inside the duffle. This one was made by Wool and Oak called Nova.

Great 👍👍👍
Laurie, a tip you might want to consider. I bring one or two cardigans to mix and match with my tops but I use the carigans as tops by themselves with a silky scarf. Because the scarves take up little to hardly any space, I have more wearable options.
I really enjoy your videos.
Anne
That's a fantastic hack! And some of the recent cardigans really look like a sweater.
I love that tip because we will be tired.
I am just finishing a 3 week European trip in a carry on. 😊 I didn't think I could do it. Merino wool dresses saved the day and it was 80-90 degrees. Also I marked packing cubes with contents which helped keep things orderly (sharpie on painter's tape).
That's so great!
Merino wool dresses are my favorite travel outfit! Compact and comfortable. 🌺Heidi
I just got my first merino wool dress-black. It took up minimal space. Looking forward to getting another style/color.
@KenshoQuest what brand do you like?
@cherylkeys1284 what brand do you like?
I have saved the plastic zip covers that many sheets and pillowcases come in and they are perfect for toiletry containers, brushes and hair products, etc. my husband loves them, too.
Thanks for sharing!!
I’ve been doing the same thing for years. It works great and have shared the idea with friends who do the same now.
First time in my life that I can say this!!!🎉
Can you explain this method please?
@@EiSe-h3c 5 bottoms-4 tops-3 overs, like jackets or sweaters-2 prs of shoes-1 dress. And everything matches or coordinates with everything.
Hi Carol, we are going to Italy in June and would love to hear what you wore in Italy and any other tips you can share.

Hello @gravedigger447, please share the name brand of the perfect personal item bag you found and where you bought it. Thanks a lot!
Two items that I have purchased per your recommendations are the striped personal bag/backpack (so roomy) and the little RIFD wallet. Thank you for reviewing them in the past as they are fantastic items. Have a glorious day.
I love that RFID pink wallet. I even use it at home.
I have organized my storefront finally: www.amazon.com/shop/traveltipsbylaurie and I am trying to create an Amazon one for Prime Day next week but do not think it'll happen.
I too have both of those items, the striped personal bag & the RFID wallet. LOVE THEM BOTH!!!
I got that wallet for my Australia trip and am still using it.
Good to hear!
I am soooooo glad!!! @@faeriefire78
Could you please link me that video? I can't find it and I am flying to Germany next week.
One tip I heard that I find useful is to take out your kitchen scales while deciding what to pack and individually weigh items - its surprising how much heavier certain fabrics are than others. Things like lightweight blouses weigh far less than most t-shirts for example. That way you can often fit in more items
That would help with a packing strategy.
Yes yes yes! I have learned from that mistake too!
Yes, fantastic tip!
Colombia fishing shirts for women are fantastic to pack. They dont wrinkle. They are waterproof-ish, have uv protection and are easy to wash in the sink or spot clean and drip dry. Im in Ireland and we wear them all over europe and other countries
Are those shirts cool? I’m going to a hot destination.
You're amazing. I ALWAYS learn something from your videos no matter how many times I've traveled carry on. Thanks for all the tips.
My pleasure!
Just returned from a 10 day Mediterranean cruise with only a carry on and a backpack. Didn't think I could do it, but it worked out great! I even had one outfit that I didn't wear! Thanks for all of your tips.
WOW! That really is amazing.
I will wear an outfit twice, if it is not really hot weather.😀
This video is amazing and so helpful! We are doing the carry on method next spring and I am learning so much from you. I appreciate you and all your efforts!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Laurie! Thanks for another great video. You have made my trips easier, more comfortable and enjoyable. I learn something new with every video. TFS
Wonderful!
I've switched to bar shampoos & of course, my body soap. They all fit in a tin.
Love bar shampoo!
Just got back from a two week trip that I did carry on only, I liked it, I need to downsize some more on shirts, I only carried one pair of shoes and I wore those. Thanks for all your advice.
Hi Laurie
I was wondering why you don’t use ziplock bags? I pack all my cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, etc in ziplock bags. I used to use cosmetics bags but ziplock bags take no room at all! I also used ziplock bags for underwear and socks. You can really compress them!
Hi, if you really are tight on weight and space, use them! They are such helpful packing essentials that are lightweight.
I use ziplock baggies as well for packing. I use the 2.5 gallon ziplock bags to compress bulkier items.
Lol.
Ooh yummy potatoes! That sounds much better than oatmeal.
I put torn up bread in my meatloaf. I just made it last night with whole wheat bread, of course.
Yay so glad they both worked!
Hello from Canada Laurie! I'm packing carry on only for the first time for my trip in 3 weeks. Thank you very much for all of your videos!
Good luck!
Wow sounds amazing but really hard. Yes laundry will help!
Even a sink and a little Tide strip will work.
Thank you for sharing. We appreciate your hard work in putting out such great content! God bless you, Laurie!
That works! Thanks for your support.
That is wonderful! Smart tip
I would be tempted to use that neck pillow tube to hold dirty laundry during my visit, then as a neck pillow on the flight home.
Smart travel hack!!
That neck pillow tube is too expensive for me so I got an 18by18 throw pillow cover and shove my coats in it!!!!
I'm thinking about getting that neck pillow to carry PJs, outerwear, and underwear. It doesn't matter if they get wrinkled and would save room in my suitcase. Thanks for showing it.
That could get stinky to wrap around your neck!
@@lesliedawson7364
Sometimes Good Morning America has this item in its Deals and Steals (at a discount).
Thank you for sharing your helpful experience! I pack a foldable fabric shopping bag in my personal item. After boarding, I pull out what I know I will use during the flight and then put my personal item and my shoes in the shopping bag, tie it up, and I can rest my feet on it.
Great tip!
Great ideas! I’m crazy about the rip skirt products. Thin. Easy to wear and easy to pack.
The TUBE has also an inside zipper pocket. I won’t travel without it. I get a whole outfit, undergarments and pajamas in it. If you choose not to use it as a neck pillow leave in the overhead compartment with your carry on, that’s usually what I do.
Leaving it up there is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Smart travel tips for carry/on only.
You are such a blessing! Love your positive, sweet personality. 😊
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing!! Yep, if you use this 1-2-3 method, I think you can pack more easily.
I’m getting the packing cubes from Amazon. I think they will keep things neat and in place. They will keep me organized.
Just when I think I'm done flying for awhile, something comes up, and I'm off again. Lori, you've come to my rescue again!
I hear ya, and so do all the airlines lol.
We usually buy toiletries at the destination. Things like sunscreen, hairspray, dry shampoo, are pretty easy to acquire any where my family goes.
You are an absolute gem!!! I just had the best vacay to the beach thanks to your packing tips!!! You provide such a valuable service!!! Hugs
I am so glad you got to go! Thanks for watching.
Hi Laurie. Great tips as always. One thing I always take on every trip is my Scotte Vest. It has a lot of pockets so I can take more than what my little cross body bag holds (but I still take that too.).
Last trip I only used an underseat small luggage. I wore my Scottevest under my Scottevest jacket!
Just found your channel; thank you!! Times, luggage, tech, and the 'Savage Baggage Handler' have changed so much over the years. Compression bags....who knew?
I know right?! Welcome!!
Always GREAT tips. Inspires me to try & pack lighter….
You can do it!
Thanks, Laurie!! I used to always over pack, but with your tips, I'm getting better. Keep them coming!!😊
Yay I am so glad the packing tips are helping!
Great tips. We are going on a train ride in Canada later this month. I will definitely use these tips! 🚂
Oh my word! That will be a beautiful trip.
The dog thinks " why does she put her clothes on the floor"??😂
I keep coming back to your channel - YOU ARE THE BEST 😊.
So nice of you!!
Your videos are always full of helpful tips. We're headed to Italy next week and watching the weather closely to make sure we take what we need. Btw, my mother put oats in her meatloaf, so of course I do too!
Oh have such a beautiful delicious trip to Italy! Do not miss this video: bit.ly/LongFlightNOJetLag
I love your videos!!! I am surprised you didn’t start with shoes as you have suggested in the past. When I started building my vacation wardrobe that way I have had no problems with going carryon only.
Hi Julia. Since it was 2 pairs of shoes, I kept it in the number 2 part of the method.
I have a couple of their skirts and love them.
🌺Heidi
HI Heidi! Yes, shoes take up so much space!
That’s the best part of summer warm travel for planning vacation outfits. Just got a dress today that I may pack.
Thanks for sharing!
Oh my word, that is a great travel hack. I'll share it in a hack video!

My husband and myself are retired and are traveling a lot these days. Our next adventure is to the Baltic Sea on a cruise ship. We have the same backpack :) You have great taste-hahahah
Have wonderful day --Leslie
Ha! Ooh we wanted to do a cruise there. Have a beautiful trip!
Thank you so much!
Hoping to master the one carryon /one personal item bag--sigh--going to start packing this week
I hope so! I really think this strategy or method will help.
I used the 1 carry-on /1 personal bag for my recent trip but found that I'm too short and too weak to get that case into the overhead bin.
Can you carry a small crossbody bag in addition to a carry on bag?
Yes, you can - crossbody bag is a personal item.
I love your outfits you showed!!!
Oh thanks! Here are some all organized: bit.ly/LaurieTravelOutfits
Tip for wrinkled clothes: pack an empty cosmetic size spray bottle. At your destination, fill with water and gently spray wrinkled clothes. Most wrinkles will come out as the clothes dry. However, don't try this on delicate fabrics like silk as it may leave water spots.
Thanks so much Kathryn.
Ive done this for years.
Thank you for this helpful tips. I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks. No check-in. Just my sling bag, carry-on, and travel backpack. I plan to buy a vuccum beg to have enough clothes to create space for luggage
That is a great idea! Will you have a vacuum before you return home?
@TravelTipsbyLaurie Yes. Actually, there's a wireless electronic vacuum that comes with it. I brought it on Amazon
Laundry facilities would help with packing so much!
Hi Laurie...great video as always.....thanks for sharing! I travel for 2 weeks with an underseat spinner...and only my purse....not large. Thanks to your advice, I feel less stress!!
Oh wow! I do not even think I could pack like that!
Can’t wait 🙌🏾
EDIT: If I end up traveling again this winter, I will try my hardest to only pack 1 pair of pants 😭
Thanks!! Have a lovely weekend even if I don't see you.
Thanks for the explainer about links on the shorts (at the very end of this video)!
All creators are so frustrated with this.
I love your dog!
Aullie says thanks!
Thanks.
Hi, yes the color is permitted, but pack any liquid containers in the quart-sized liquids bag. This video may help: bit.ly/NOTaLiquid
Hi Debbie, it all depends on what space you have. Pack what you want to wear and try to take out something if you can at all. And have fun!
what label maker do you use. It prints clear labels?
Very helpful! Thanks, Laurie.
So glad!
Thank you, I enjoy your videos!
Do you have any videos about how to pack dresses? We’re going on a cruise and we’re packing carry on only but I like to wear a dress in the evenings.😅
Hi, I would fold up several times after folding it lengthwise once.
Great tips! I live by 'you can change your clothes or you could change your location'. Two tops and two bottoms= 4 outfits.
Love this method!
Laurie, Which passport carrier RFID do you recommend? Do you have a favorite? Thank you.
Since the officer makes me take it out of the booklet to show it, I do not use one. Any would be fine.
Oh my gosh!! I have the same Italia shirt!!! :)
When did you buy yours? Mine was probably 15 years ago in Amalfi
@TravelTipsbyLaurie my mother-in-law bought in Italy for me about 5 years ago!!
Yes, check your airline + carry on size requirements before you pack.
Thank you again for such great tips!
You are so welcome!
Great tips! 🛩 🧳
Thanks for watching!
i watched some of these influencers "guides" to carryon luggage and what I find surprising is the promotion of "just over 9 or 10 " thickness, even larger, when this dimension.
Can’t wait!
I hope it helps so many passengers!
I would invest in laundry service for sure! There are also Tide sink packets or laundry sheets too.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you!!
Thanks!@@TravelTipsbyLaurie
All great tips!! Ecco, however, does not have a wide width. Neither do Chacco boots. I do have Chacco Sandals that are perfect and available in wide. Any other suggestions for all day wear and waterproof lightweight booties?
Merrell has some if you need hiking boots-in different styles not necessarily boots. On Cloud has some waterproof sneakers: bit.ly/459Rxip
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I am checking that out. I have crazy feet
Love your info. What brand are your Chelsea waterproof boots?
Hi and thank you! All links are in the first comment and below each video in the description paragraph. Here are the boots I mentioned: Black waterproof boot: bit.ly/3PnGHRw

Thanks for the video, it is useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Laurie ❤
You are so welcome!
Can you please do a video for checked bags
Hi, I just do not check them. But really the same tips would apply.
Hi, I have not worked with them before. Yep I would def want wheels.
