My wife and I are on this cruise right now on Ovation of the Seas. Today was supposed to be the Dawes Glacier. The ship got into the arm and turned around and said we won't be going because of ice. Very disappointing. Now just 2 days at sea. Wife and I are really bummed. We upgraded to a balcony and everything for this cruise.
You two remind me of my husband and me. We're sailing on Discovery Princess to Alaska in a little over two weeks. I'm a planner and I want to maximize our time in each port. We're booked on the whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier excursion excursion that you did. Can't wait!

I will scrapbook my whole trip to Alaska that came 49th state 65 years ago. I was born in 1959. Perfect timing to go and explore and enjoy my 65th birthday. (2 months early).

We were thinking of taking the small tour boat from the ship to Dawes Glacier but If we take the Mendenhall Glacier and Whale tour, do you think it is necessary to do the small tour boat from the ship to Dawes Glacier as well

Yes, people are meant to! There is one excursion that holds a very small amount of people, but this is meant to be viewed from your ship and then we head to Juneau where people get off…

I always recommend booking through the cruise for excursions. Only want to have peace of mind the ship won’t leave without you if you are late!

If it’s like our sailing, there wasn’t time to do both (it conflicts!) but if timing allows, I think it’s worth it to do both!!
