Wow Liam I remember talking to you a while back , So cool to see you on the podcast bro , been watching your stuff for years , love the Beatles community , everyone is so cool , very informative stuff , cheers fellas
Hi fellas, I am absolutely loving your channel. For the more discerning Beatles student, your show is truly second to none. As well as you all being so knowledgeable - it's the way that you share your information that counts the most; which is through pure love and passion. I was always fascinating by the clothing side of The Beatles and went down that specific rabbit-hole, which guided my life both career wise and in my leisure time as well. Which lasted for over three decades here in England. Keep up the good work and I believe that your show will grow and grow.
Hey, could you guys make a full video discussing either It's All Too Much or She Said She Said? Definitely my two favorite beatles songs guitar tone wise and was wondering your guys thoughts on it, even though I know you've already covered she said she said pretty extensively. Thanks guys and hope to see more great videos!
I’m a drummer and I have studied all the Beatles gear extensively. However, I’ve never gone deep on the VOX Continental. Very informative! Thank you!!!!
Fun stuff! Old coot here- 😂 I was in a “mostly” all original Prog band in 1974 (we did a few covers as well as our own tunes), our keyboardist had this Exact same Vox organ (it had a very distinct sound, not always the sound we were hoping for, but you worked with what you had back then. When our manager acquired a mini Moog, that made all the difference). I remember wishing we had a Leslie or something, to beef up the sound of that Vox, but for Beatles covers (we did cover I’m Down), or The Doors (yep- we did a pretty accurate version of Light My Fire), it was perfection. Fun video guys!!!
Love the insight to all this....great string episode, don't know too much of the technical stuff but it's good to know now I have an idea and I can pick and choose.... Enjoy the Fest !!! I'm hoping to make it to Chicago this August good times fer sure !!!
In December 1965 Paul played chords on the VOX Continental to emulate the strings on Yesterday, John, George and Ringo played their regular instruments. At the show in Liverpool, John also played the organ on We Can Work it Out.
Very very cool😁 I love those 60’s portable keyboard sounds. I think Lennons keyboard debut on a Beatle song may have been THE NIGHT BEFORE on Help on Hohner Pianet …correct? ..as far as more 60’s sounds , 96 TEARS , Vox, Farfisa?
I love this channel so much!!! The passion for the details of Beatles gear and song craft are unmatched!! I have but one request (for now 😆): is there any way you guys can do a deep dive into the Beatles' use of the Fender Stratocaster? That would be the single biggest thing I would love to see. Thank you so much for the time and energy you pour into these wonderful episodes!!!
I very much appreciate that!! It's so neat watching y'all go through pictures of them in the studio and listen so intently to pick out all of the sonic nuances and give such informed hypotheses.
i have several of these and a Farfisa and now getting ready to refurbish them all. I also have a Roland XP30 with the keyboard of the 60s and 70s expansion card that sounds pretty good too.
I’m pretty sure the intro to A Little Help is the Vox Continental II, it doesn’t sound like the Lowrey or a Hammond, but I could be wrong. Will look through the Sgt. Peppers session dates and songs were often revisited over the course of months for overdubs. The Lowrey DSO-1 (which was The Beatles’ Lowrey) is a very weedy-sounding organ, apart from some harsher sounds like the Harpsichord and Guitar sounds (which were the sounds engaged for the intro to Lucy in the Sky). The Beatles’ particular Lowrey was a Selmer imported and assembled model, which was originally purchased by EMI Abbey Road in 1965 if I’m not mistaken, and wasn’t used much by anyone until the Sgt. Peppers sessions.
Many years ago I flew to Cleveland to see Peter Gabriel at the Gund Arena. I also toured the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame where I met the CEO and gave him a piece of my mind about Chicago and Journey not inducted yet; he agreed and gave me his card-which later saved my ass. How so? Upstairs was the John Lennon collection Yoko had lent to the Hall that featured the Vox Continental keyboard. Alone with no one nearby, I untied the velvet rope and stepped up two levels and then, as I hit an E-major 7th chord (no sound; not plugged in), I heard "Hey!" shouted from a distant of about a hundred feet... the security guard was very mad. He ran over and said, "Hey, you can't touch the display and I'm going to ask you to leave now or I'll have to report you to the police." I then showed him the CEO's card and said, "I'm meeting Tom for lunch at 1; we're close friends. Say, should we mention your threat to have me arrested? I am sorry, though." He said, "Look, you can't do that. Please don't touch any of the display items because if anything gets damaged, I'll get blamed and fired. Thanks man" and as he walked away, I realized that I "played" a Beatles instrument!
The Vox yesterday sounds extremely similar to The Beach Boys 1967 Hawaii Live shows, they did the entire this with some kind of Vox, all there hits, very bizarre, but sounds cool!
Great video you guys worked on! Kept watching this video back to back, also have you seen the Beatles’s 1966 tour photos? It seems like the Vox Continental II was in some venues but was not used it for I’m Down, not sure why they brought it in the first place
When I was in my early days of college, I wanted a Connie so bad. Now that 13 years have passed, I had given up on the idea...now I want one again. It may not sound as rich and deep as a B3, but it's got a charm all on its own. Well done, guys!
Yeah, we were trying to quickly get an episode out about Paul’s 1961 Hofner Bass and I was just burnt out on editing last night so I’m finishing it up now and it should hopefully be out tomorrow
They at least did in this appearance of Summer In The City: th-cam.com/video/8emBhUD4Znw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WZvy5VwzjlB6rnoL I’d need to investigate a bit more about which records it would actually be on, but I am pretty familiar with the Spoonful, having covered a few of their songs
Interesting video. The Continental was plugged into the white Bassman when McCartney did Yesterday in December of 1965. I have a nice picture if you want it.
No, it’s the Lowrey DSO-1. The Beatles’ DSO-1 was a Selmer-assembled UK model. The Gibson organ was made by Lowrey in Chicago, but very few, if any, made it to the UK.
So the 60th anniversary of the Ed Sullivan appearance was nearing and you guys decided to do an episode on a keyboard instead of maybe talking about the gear they used on their performances on there. Do you guys even like the beatles?
Lol last episode wasn’t obscure enough and now you want an Ed Sullivan episode? 🤔 All seriousness though, we might do one eventually but there’s a lot more specific gear topics to cover first, and the ‘58 Rick 325 and the Gent are too much to fit in one episode
You guys are the best!! This was so fun and thank you for bringing me on!
Thanks for coming on to educate us on the Vox Continental! It was awesome chatting with you!
Come back again!
Wow Liam I remember talking to you a while back , So cool to see you on the podcast bro , been watching your stuff for years , love the Beatles community , everyone is so cool , very informative stuff , cheers fellas
Mike checking in - FYI, I meant to say "harmonium" at 31:18, not Hammond organ. I denounce and reject myself.

This was fantastic! Imagine talking about this in 2024. Super interesting. I’m 64 and elated you guys are into this. Thanks!
Okay now since we got a keyboard episode we need a drum episode
I also vote drum episode with special guest David Montis!

Those are cool. Our keyboard guy had one in our high school band back in 1965. He ran it through a large wood Leslie. Love your show…
Next episode gotta be about the recovered bass, right? I would love to see McCartney play it.
Love the insight to all this....great string episode, don't know too much of the technical stuff but it's good to know now I have an idea and I can pick and choose.... Enjoy the Fest !!! I'm hoping to make it to Chicago this August good times fer sure !!!
Thanks! Sam said he had a great time at the Fest, hope you enjoy the one in Chicago!

All I want in life is to hear the Christmas show 1965 version of Yesterday
Same here man!

Yeah we can definitely do that!
I very much appreciate that!! It's so neat watching y'all go through pictures of them in the studio and listen so intently to pick out all of the sonic nuances and give such informed hypotheses.
Great to have Michael joining the podcast now!
Yeah we’ve loved having him on!
Excellent as always! I’d love to see you guys take a crack at all the guitars on USSR one of these days
Keep these videos coming guys! NICE
Will do! Glad you’re enjoying them!
Note the Black Strat next to the VOX Continental II in the April 66 pic

I’m looking through you uses the Hammond Organ according to Wikipedia

That was a Baldwin organ courtesy of Brian Wilson, the deal was he would only do the show if he brought his white Baldwin theatre organ lol

Elvis Costello's keyboardist, Steve Nieve, played a Vox Continental all over his This Year's Model album, featuring Pump It Up and Radio Radio.
One of my favorite albums! Seriously dangerous for 1978
When I was in my early days of college, I wanted a Connie so bad. Now that 13 years have passed, I had given up on the idea...now I want one again.
It may not sound as rich and deep as a B3, but it's got a charm all on its own. Well done, guys!
Thanks Jacob! I think we’ve all got phases where we want a Vox Continental, especially the more Animals, Doors, and Dave Clark 5 inclined 60s fans
Another great episode (Y)
Thanks!
Will a new episode be out soon ?
Yeah, we were trying to quickly get an episode out about Paul’s 1961 Hofner Bass and I was just burnt out on editing last night so I’m finishing it up now and it should hopefully be out tomorrow

A new face on the podcast and to the world. Good luck to Paul and his family
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😅😊😊
Thanks, you too!
Think for yourself uses the Vox Continental Organ .
Lucy In The Sky is a Gibson Organ g101
No, it’s the Lowrey DSO-1. The Beatles’ DSO-1 was a Selmer-assembled UK model. The Gibson organ was made by Lowrey in Chicago, but very few, if any, made it to the UK.
There's a keyboard in Dizzy Miss Lizzy
Good call!
Lewisohn bows in obedience to you guys. Fu$$ lewisohn you guys are the pros bro
11:50 Hundred per cent. I might have bought one otherwise.
