The Captain Picard of Jazz Drums.
Make it so !😂
ENGAGE 🥁
😅, that's great!
Even when he's really ramping up the technique, Steve's always so smooth, consistent, and soulful. Elite...
Steve Smith is a world class drummer! Fantastic style!
He makes it all look so easy 😊
And any drummer knows it's anything but. Why he's one of the greats.
A lifetime of study and practice will do that.
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons I have always loved Sonor Drums and Steve Smith.
I have several DW collector series kits but Sonor is my favorite.
King of smoothness
Unbelievable playing. Steve makes it look easy. Been a fan for four decades. Saw Steve with Journey in the 80s and have been a follower since.
I don't think most people and drummers realize how amazing and vastly knowledgeable SS is. I mean you name it he can play it. It would take most of us 19 lifetimes to get to Steve's level, seriously.
I feel the same way about Greg Bissonette. These guys are drummer's drummers.
Ever since the Buddy Rich tribute in the 80s, I've been incredibly impressed at how much better SS is than most other famous drummers.
I know, I’m working on the track right now, learning the song by ear... Sitting the drums today, just the opening solo’s are surprising to me. The figure takes 3 beats, no sweat, but then the drums fill for five beats. I’m using the track to work out my inner Tony, wish me luck!
Why do you think most people don’t grasp Steve’s greatness? Do you have special insight into his gift that the rest of us do not possess?
@@flamecolumn there is over 8 billion people on earth right now. Do you really think most of them know who Steve Smith is? You asked a stupid and snarky question. Grow up.
one of the GOATs
great drummer. great control. great timing. great technique and speed. definately world class !!!!
Sonor + Zildjian + Steve Smith... What the hell of a sound !!!!
Awesome, professor!
Great hands ... Always smooth!
The Master at work. Still killing it!
those cymbals are to die for! woooooow ...what a sound
Wow, that's the master at work. And the drums are tuned perfectly. Kudos to the mix and the production, as it looks as good as it sounds.
In the eighties til now, I have always been a Weckl guy But… I Always gave this man his props, Vital Information and everything since. Glad to see he is as tasteful as ever!
Great Steve Smith.👌👌
Steve continues to inspire
If I play drums today is because of my hero Steve Smith here! He has more tricks t y an any drummer known to date, simplicity and sophisticated at the same time! That's called versatility and pocket for these 80 and 90's Era musicians li l e myself who n went to school during these times
Hands down my favorite drummer of all time 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely fantastic 👌 👍
Thanks for this morning gratitude. Be safe out there
Serving the music. 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome!
Perfect ❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
Marvelous! This has such a crazy feel to it...but spot on! It's brave!
Great piece of music, your playing is amazing. 👏👏👏
Bello/magnifico.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🌡️
Those ride sounds 🖤🖤👌👌
This kit!
what can i say... awesome playing, as always
YESSS!
WOW!
SMOOOOOOTH
i would say Steve Smith has the best left hand control ive ever seen with traditional grip
Steve é Genial !
Nice!
Great job Steve!! Syncopated rhythm to the max. Pro-level fills. Not lame.
Good audio too!!
don't know how he can play that 16 floor tom set up like that, but man,... he makes everything look SOOO easy!!!!!!
Steve Smith here 😎
If he works with the buddy rich band and the memorial concert he's the top of the game.
Pro!
To hear this on DW drums - simply put a blanket over your speakers.
Lol. "That'll be 12k please . . ."
@@davegarciaofficialfound the dw fan who can’t take a joke 😂😂😂
DW has the most naturally rich, deep tone of any kits I have played tbh
@@ajdrums8075 which is your opinion and is entirely valid! I prefer sonor myself and find them to be a bit more harmonically rich and natural sounding. But it’s all personal preference. I also love me a super dead muffled drum sound. It’s not that serious.
@@kevinbothwell8425 I play Tama jazz Walnut/Birch atm and they sound gorgeous. Agreed re muffling drums, regularly I have half towel on snare and floor
👌
Always amazing I like his Rosewood finish better .
He's good :D
He’s been great for so long I’m surprised he didn’t hook up with another huge band like Journey.
🥰🥰🥰
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😁
Sonor ought to reissue this kit.
1:32 3:48... some crazy stuff going on!
👍
I'm glad Steve went back to Journey after all of those years. It was fascinating to see how he applied all he had learned and had taken the SS of today and fused it with the SS of the late '70's/'80's. But I'm glad he left (or whatever that story truly is). While I find most jazz to be snobby, elitist and sometimes ridiculously self-absorbent and boring, Steve manages to make it exciting. His growth and continued searching for the 'new' is inspiring. I'll never be at his level, but I'll always strive to be as curious and creative as he is.
I'll Say🥁🔥🥁 3:27
his precision and clarity are really mind blowing. all while swinging and carrying the song. this is hands-on world class drumming
Such a weird setup but it works for him I guess. Never seen anyone have three snares in a row like that.
He's on record as stating he was inspired by the musical Hamilton where the drummer in the pit had three snares each tuned differently for the music. A few other drummers have auxiliary snares. Definitely Jojo Mayer does it too
@@FrederickJohnSebastianAndres Forero actually uses 5 (!) Snares for Hamilton.
Here is a rig rundown

@@karstenbursak8083 I think he's a Sonor endorser as well
Is it me, or does the drum intro sound like DJ Shadow?
Not that there's anything wrong with that 😊
CS black dot drum heads?
Not his fan but this performance is really cool👍
“Not quite my tempo!”
Refreshing to see a drummer playing with traditional grip......If you're a good player, you should be well versed in both grips.
Jazz without a silly 4 pc kit 👍👍🙏
IMHO, those Remo CS black dot heads just do not sound good, especially for the jazz Steve likes to play. Normal coated Ambassadors would sound far better and be more appropriate for this style of music.
Nobody since Tony Williams has been able to get such a good sound out of black dots (not sure if because the power with which he hit his toms or tuning)
Booooooriiing
💯💯💯
Boring for Bad Bunny's fans surely.
The bad porn movie music has to go....
I would be more concerned about your taste in films 😅
I likes what youz tryin' a do.
