As usual Rob, very helpful and I did pick up a few new tips. I really miss these types of "how to" videos from you, please keep them coming.

Yes, Rob, you need to give us more of these videos instead of the Trekathon livestream sessions several times a week. The summer's on it's way and, with vaccinations, we hope to get out again. More "How To" videos, please 🙏

@@rickbear7249 Yes, I agree with Mr Bear. A chat is one thing but to sit for two hours+ is asking a lot. As a health care professional, I must advise you and your subscribers that too much sitting at the computer is not a good thing. There has been a saying circulating for awhile now, “Sitting is the new smoking”. It is not advisable to plop down for long extended periods of time, the human body is made for moving. So I would encourage everyone to enjoy Rob’s tips and tricks and get out shooting when you can. As always Rob, your content is very much appreciated.

Thanks for making some of the more arcane functions a little easier to understand in an intuitive manner. I have loved that press and hold functionality and even though it’s been a J menu item since the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II I rarely mess with the defaults for timing. But I could imagine someone uses gloves often or has a special interest in some function may find 0.7 seconds to hold before it extends the function to be too short or too long. Otherwise it’s a great benefit to keep from diving in to the menu. Before you came along with these great tips we just stumbled around in the dark discovering them by accident. Haha. Keep up the good work Rob.

When I use say "P" I can change the F stop and exposure, but holding the OK button will only change the exposure back to zero, I find the only way to revert to original auto settings is to change mode or turn on/off camera. Wish the camera had a "green" button like my old Pentax cameras. Great videos Rob and I always have a moment to reflect on owning a camera for a few years and you show me I missed something.

@@RobTrek Thanks for that Rob. The abundance of wildlife in Central London can put some of the more rural areas to shame. The dawn chorus here can very very loud. For there to be large(ish) wild mammals roaming our London streets is incredible. I’ve seen badgers at Brent Cross, Buzzards & Red & Black Kites regularly fly over Hampstead Heath where I walk my dog daily and a friend has seen muntjac deer there early in the morning. And as for foxes, they’re everywhere and at all times of day and night. To not have an encounter would be most unusual. And the good thing about the foxes is that they keep pests to a minimum hunting rats, mice, snails and slugs.

Taking delivery of a new E-M1 Mk2 tomorrow and what can I say but Wow-thanks for this video. Finding all these features would be virtually impossible without you.
Why the Mk2 now? you might ask. Well it's because the price is right and it will be my first really professional and thoroughly weather-resistant camera. It will complement my E-M10 very nicely and I will probably be selling my Panasonic G6 and G7.
The body price is now down to UK£620 or US$864 including taxes. That is about a third of its original price.

It arrived this morning and I've been fiddling with it and setting some of the functions to mimic my E-M10, for simplicity and convenience, off and on since. Brand new but built in September 2019. Delivered with Firmare 3.0 and updated by me this morning to the latest 3.4 [if I remember correctly]. Took a while of frustration to figure out how to allow my Mac's security to allow the updates to download from the Olympus website. Indeed to even figure out that this was the issue preventing the download. Never failed yet though and got there in the end. All's good.

This isn't strictly speaking a button feature, but there's a hidden touchscreen feature on the E-M1 II where double-tapping the screen toggles trackpad behavior on and off. Trackpad behavior is where you can drag on the screen to move the AF point when your eye is to the EVF. I figured I'd mention this for people who've "lost" trackpad behavior and don't know how to get it back. Just double-tap the screen again.

Thanks for another great video, I think this is what you do best but I guess these take a lot of time and thought.
On the EM1.3 I get really mixed up switching between live view and super control panel when I have the shooting menu active. I just get lost between the three views. It would make a nice short video so show the best way to swap between the three views, at least for me. But hopefully I am not the only one with this problem.
    .
Have you ever thought of doing one of those menu explanation books as nobody seems to be doing them anymore. You seem to have the most detailed explanations for Olympus than anyone else I have seen, and be able to put it in a way that is understandable. If you ever consider this a searchable PDF in colour would be my choice. Mobile books like mobi, epub etc I find too fidely.
Or a paid for video covering the whole menu and button system, may help your channel
Anyway looking forward to your next tutorial as always

The Mark III has 3 custom settings, only one can be accessed on the mode dial. The Mark III has much better autofocus, pro-capture, 4k video, and much better IBIS. It also has a much better buffer for sports/action burst mode photography. If you don't need burst mode buffer or 4k video, I don't think you need to upgrade.

Houston i have a problem. Not with this video, which I am now watching, but you reminded me of an annoying function on my EM1 Mark III.
Since you are my GoTo for settings, I thought I'd ask you.
My workflow right now is to take my card out, put it in my laptop card slot, and Copy it to a folder on my laptop.
So, I Copy the files from my card slot into a \Temp folder on my laptop for developing. Files come in as _MDM0001.ORF, _MDM0002.ORF, etc.
I then check that I got all the files and reformat both card in my camera.
Then, I have a continuation of, or a new shoot and copy them into the \Temp folder (assuming the other files are not done and are still there) and all or some of the new files overwrite the others. (and the new files don't have .ON1 or .XMP files attached yet, while the older files do).
I checked the manual and they seem to say that if I format the cards the file names automatically start with 0001 again. I want them to always start and use the next available number, like my Nikon did and go up to 9999 before recycling back to 0001 again.
Where is that setting or how do I do that with an M1 Mark III? Thank you so much.

I found it, I found it. It would help if I learned how to read. It's Gear|H1|File Name|Auto setting.

Great! Just double check it. I tend to reset the camera time to time and this setting gets reset as well.

Hello, I have an Olympus omd10 mark2. Is it possible to automatically inspect the images using a cable when shooting in the studio?

Unfortunately the E-M10ii doesn't have tethering ability.

Any of this apply to EM10? Just held a few buttons but nothing happened....

    • @RobTrek

Most of them do apply to the Mark II series, but I don't have any Mark I cameras to test this.
