Poor guy, nobody told him that hovers have an alternative to bunny hopping that lets them travel at top ground speed for almost no energy drain or heat.
if you're talking about that overboosting tech with hover legs, i straight up thought they only worked in AC3/Silent Line like how OB cancelling only really works those games and thats my bad. I'll probably start using it more but with how small many of the stages the hardest missions are + less en drain to play with, it might not be as useful as it is in early gen 3
@@Sabbathfaax Hovers have a pretty long minimum boost dash distance when you just tap it, and unlike other legs they can cancel the braking animation into another boost dash. As a result if you tap boost with the right rhythm you can chain short dashes without letting the brake animation play out enough to slow you down. Since this uses basically no energy, you can actually make good use of super low calorific value generators like G69 and G78 to mitigate the heat of hover boosters without worrying about their low energy output.
@@omnibot5848 Is this the case in all 3rd gen games or just Last Raven? Currently playing through AC3 for the first time and while I got used to bunny hopping, I couldn't really get a good feel for hover legs despite liking them conceptually.
there is a little mechanic thing about the "braking" animation for hover legs you can cancel into a strafe so now you are now just strafe boosting while not bunny hopping in short do not go in circles but in cardinals but this does not rectify the one issue hovers have in last raven.... squishy legs they have generally a larger hitbox than other AC part so they will be the first to go in a firefight and worst the first one to get destroyed so yeah... in short treat boosting with hover legs like quick boost in 4th gen this will help you
The original hover legs came from beating a guy who used two machine guns. They don’t bunny hop but they should be able to out turn most targeting systems.
Hover legs *can* bunny hop, but its extremely difficult. You need to boost just a sliver of enough to be considered airborne, and then you need to reboost when youre actually touching the ground and not before which can be difficult to tell with how hover legs work. Uneven terrain can throw off the timing. They dont really have to though since they can cancel their break into a boost.
I did beat it with hover leg build in ppsspp I did not know this was a challenge mode at all. I just looked at the high stats that mattered to me. Specially turning speed which kinda sucked for all legs that weren't hover type.
I love your very consistent analysis and citing each weapon or equipment mentioned as well! I very much have love armored core for years but I only ever really got to see armored core 4 and armored core 5. So I'm really getting myself into the series proper. Currently playing through for answer and after that I honestly want to play last Raven.
"Title" Me: Yes. Already did that ages ago. One of my best mechs was built using hover legs too. Also used hover legs to make a non-OP-I machine that could actually fly indefinitely with a specialized piloting technique, though that machine was terrible in combat. It was more of a proof of concept then anything. XD Hover legs have a lot of downsides and definitely aren't beginner friendly, but they do pose certain advantages. Their ground speed even without boosting is phenomenal and they tend to have ridiculously energy efficient boosting, allowing them to maintain sustained flight easier then even reverse jointed legs. Their floatiness makes them more difficult to juke the enemy's lock, but there is a range where they can comfortably stay ahead of enemy fire without allowing the enemy FCS to get a chance to properly compensate. Their mobility helps a lot at staying in that sweet spot. So yes. They are difficult to use and break down easily. But they are built to promote long range engagements and avoid enemy fire. They are probably the legs that push OP-I's advantages the most.
One technique that can help hover legs is to start Overboost, get up to speed, then boost up a little and cut OB. You can glide considerably without spending any further energy or generating heat.
Never had issues with Hover legs in any of the 3rd gen games, and I did use them extensively, honestly didn't know this was even a challenge, guess it's one of those cases where you just make it work by getting used to it, one thing was for use, after playing these for so long, I had legit issues moving to other leg types.
This... hit me with nostalgia when i heard Custom Robo music while you were describing leg movement types XD Thank you for the trip down memory lane, and good work on the challenge, looks like it was a bit of a nightmare.
I do find it a little sad that Last Raven doesn't have missions on water that would make the Hover legs useful, there's only that one at the dam, and is only useful for half of the mission.
just found ur channel. super excited to see more long time armored core fans popping up to talk about a really good long running series after 6 got announced. totally excited for more vids, subbed!
It's an interesting and informative video. Not sure how to feel about the non-stop witty commentary but I like to learn about the mechanics of iconic PlayStation titles that I've never played before. Got into PS1 Armor Core 1 emulation recently and I like using the heavily armored caterpillar tank tread legs paired with a laser cannon with a high output/capacity generator.
When I played Nexus I only had hover legs on my 2nd loadout paired with the core which came with the rapid fire back drone. When I got to the mission when you fight the bombers I was stumped until I used that loadout with a pair of sniper rifles for both hands. And that made me beat the whole game with it's gliding around while dishing out large amounts of damage.
You should start with VR arena and rack up money from there, on hover legs. Hover legs are best used on ground boosting on flat plane for speed. If you’re in the air, your speed is so low that you get hit more often. Jiggle left or right to mess the trajectory of enemy shots, unless if they have faster trajectory or bigger shots or if they move faster than you (e.g, bipedal pulverizer, AC Sight Hawk, Zinaida), finish them off quick.
Wait! Last Raven has 7 different endings? Now I see why it is regarded as one of the best Armored Core games. As someone who has joined the fandom recently and have beaten a good amount of now, now I can't wait to play Last Raven!
I give you props! As an AC OG I approve this venture. The only title I didn’t complete was verdict day. It’s trash and they changed the scale and style of the AC’s. I played for 5 minutes, cried like when EA destroyed NFL 2k franchise and took that trash back to GameStop.
Mollycoddle... I honestly hated this mission, and this is coming from a bipedal who is good with blades. The reason I hate this mission is a little different though... I hate it because my version of Molly was either bugged or just felt like being an asshole. The GL on his back would never run out of ammo and he used them alongside his blades... as in he would blade me, and within a fraction of a second I would get point blank double barreled by his back GL. And considering I was a lighter weight AC geared for hit and run... that tactic became hit and BOOM to the face... seriously, the dude was straight cheating.
About Sorcerer and why Jack wants him dead, spoiler alerts. First of all, no, Sorcerer did not betray Jack. He'd be the last person to ever betray him as Sorcerer and Jack-O was genuinely good friend, Ed himself noted this peculiar friendship in Sorcerer's bio as Jack not really a person who have many friends. It maybe foolish and heartless at first, but Jack's reasons really is made sense due to one thing: Pulverizer. Those thing can learn from the battle it took with Ravens, whether it winning or not, it doesn't matter. It only takes time until it becomes truly unstoppable thanks to the grind the surviving Ravens unintentionally provide them. Even though Crow's talent as a Raven and his experience made him crucial and reliable member of Vertex surpasses Sorcerer's, remember that Vertex although small, were filled with what considered as Elite Ravens. That includes Sorcerer, so he ain't slouch. He maybe the best 3rd or 4th pilot in the group, so by him surviving only to encounter Pulverizer and taught it some skill could pose a serious issue. Jack did what he had to do, to betray his only friend.
Dw I know this, I'm putting myself through the eyes of the viewer who's never played Last Raven for this challenge run because so few may have played the games thoroughly. Esp the hardest in the series
I didn't think i would enjoy this as much as i did! eagerly awaiting part 2 also do you think ac6 will improve hover legs if they even have them at all?
I don't think they'll have them at all, but there's no doubt if they are in AC6, Fromsoft will balance them better than they did nearly two decades ago.
From what I have seen, they improved them by turning them into one Tank Leg (VE-42B) that focuses on aerial combat. You gain the ability to purchase it after the first mission of Chapter 5, called Escape.
Trying to remember which ac game it was, i think it was one of the ac2 shoot offs that had a final boss people liked to call super nineball and it would launch huge missile swarms at you every time you left the ground, and had infinite ammo so bunny hopping or flying combat was a death sentence.
Hovers break at a light breeze but technically everything’s viable as long as you abuse micro missles and the OP as fuck revolvers that stun and overheat everything

It not possible, some boss units in the game (especially Final Zinaida) will melt you way too quick. Also some missions (like again, Final Zinaida's mission) require you to take some damage before you enter phase two, already gimping you to a point of not being physically possible to complete phase two.
Now seeing that this is a thing and having never played an AC game, I'm kinda hoping that the hover frame on the bottom is in Fires of Rubicon, I wanna go around on it
"Becoming new raven at the worst time imaginable" bruh just think about pilot who become new raven just few hours away from Nexus Final Mission. Their first mission will literally become 'SURVIVE'
dont ever fire missiles when the enemy is descending, fire when they touch the floor, for grenade launcher ac's just ob around until they deplete thier ammo, for aerial ac's, you want to wait until they touch the floor and then open fire to maximise your damage on them, rifles are fairly useless vs endgame ac's, also look at thier parts and see what they are weak against, energy or ballistic.

Why they removed this part when it was in AC3 and Silent Line, I will never know. For something that was built in the game since Armored Core 1, Nexus, Ninebreaker, and Last Raven severely gimped you by allowing the AIs to cheat while your hands are tied behind your back while being blindfolded.
