every time I hear one of those old engines come to life it's music to my ears ,, nothing more wonderful than hearing an 8V-71 come to life I have several in use at my farm , and I have an RV hauler toterhome that's powered by it's big brother 12V-71 ,mine is turbocharged as well ,,absolutely wonderful music hearing it pulling a 12% grade at full throttle in low gear
@Terry Melvin Yeah I think all of the silversides, all of the 4104's and quite a few of the 4106's had 671's. I only recall seeing 8v71's in 4106 and newer
The capacity between the low and full mark is one gallon. The opening on a plastic one gallon jug should just fit inside the oil fill allowing the entire gallon to go in without any spillage.
Greyhound Scenicruiser pd-4501-858 ... (pd = parlor diesel, 4501 = 45 seats, version 01, 858 = #858 of 1001) More historical information (greyhound history, images, etc) on her can be found here: www.scenicruisers.com/scenicruisers/pd-4501-858/
WHY IN THE WORLD WERE YOU TRYING TO PUT THAT OIL IN WITH A FUNNEL THERES PLENTY OF ROOM TO JUST DUMP THE BOTTLE DOWN THE FILLER NECK I KNOW IVE DONE IT
HAVE YOU HEARD? CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL! And it's actually not that easy to pour oil down those fill necks without spilling it, even from a quart bottle; they look big and pretty accessible, but because of the angle, you have to pay close attention and go slow or it overflows. A bendy funnel not only helps you see what you're doing, it also helps get the oil further down the tube, as well as pace it so you can pour easier and faster.
Scooter George this video was shot on a crappy cell phone. i have invested in much better equipment for future videos. better mics and windscreens are a part of that, lol.
Video was surprisingly good. Sound, not so much... Are the bus batteries wired in series for 24 volts? Fired up great! I had a Ford Ranger pickup with a 4 cylinder diesel engine. With a couple of bad glow plugs it did not want to start. Not even on a warm day.
"I got the stop leak in there" ROTFL There's not 1 GM 2 stroke in existence that doesn't leak oil FFS! - even when new. This is why most GM truck operators operators carried about 20 liters oil at all times. Must check oil and water EVERY day esp. the oil. BTW - in temperate climates straight 40 weight oil only. 15W-40 is incorrect for this engine. They don't like it. www.tejascoach.com/tips.html
Yep! I know that now. Been buying Delo full 40wt oil ever since... Luckily, that 15w40 was the only gallon of that stuff i ever bought. I used the remaining of what I had of the 15w40 in one of the oil bath filters I dumped when re-installing everything. Huge learning curve with this thing, but lovin every second of it!
Jesus dude get your safety glasses on and stop hammering on the posts, you should also have a face shield on as part of your PPE for safety. And never and I mean never , a hot wire not fused to the battery, u asking for a fire

I love the old 2-stroke detroits. Not sure why but the old 6-71 is my favorite.

@Terry Melvin I've seen some on videos but not in person. There were some special order GM coaches that had them. I think about 110 of them or so.

Typical GM. They can sit for 20 years and then fire right up like they've just been switched off :)
Love this story.
SWEET! Love the fact that it still has it's original oil bath air cleaners too! NO throw away paper filters to have to keep buying!
A great sound!

Definitely keep the oil bath air filters. So much better for the purpose. There's a reason they aren't paper.

railroad job, never bothered to clean-up the paint flaky, rusty engine compartment before dropping in a fresh engine.
Miss this bus and the old owner. GARY RIP some day we will meet again and have a beer and shoot some guns .
With the engine out, and all the grease/grime, why didn't you steam or power wash it?
Grimy grease prevents rust and helps to hide future oil leaks.
NICE!!
LOVE the videos But please label the videos in parts so we can follow along properly....awesome work though
That thing sounds mean, firing up.
Need a wind cover for the microphone?

Just realize he had you put in multi-weight oil, I assume you know better now.

"There's your $1,000.00 right there." when referring to the Deleon-Remy AC. Is that what you paid for the entire unit?!?!
Perfect !! My compliment !
