Back in 1983 we were doing a show in north Florida. One of the groups showed up in a brand new motorhome. Beautiful thing. A few minutes later we heard some noise and looked down the road and here comes this old 4104. Smoking some, paint faded and one of the bay doors wired shut. No one paid any attention to the motorhome but when the bus pulled in someone said " dam they must be good, they have a bus" everyone nodded in agreement. Just something about a bus.
serama 555 Those early Scenicruiser PD 4501's 's early 3-speed manual were 6 speed actually by virtue of a two speed auv.split unit. Also that third party was Marmon-Herrington.
Some people relax to the sounds of falling rain, or a flowing creek. Perhaps even, the rustling of leaves from a gentle breeze or waves rolling onto a pristine sandy beach. Fuck that shit though, I'll take a Detroit Diesel.
You had pretty sophisticated buses fifty years ago. In India they were really basic back then. Front engine and very few with air conditioning. Now you get cool ones made by Volvo, Daimler Benz and Tata
I got a 1953 GMC with full RV hook ups only thing left is but I mean bedroom everything else is new or five years old but never used long list 25,000 needs pain
That must've been some journey....?......All that scenery and I reckon you had a fair few crazies on that journey too. I wish I could have done that trip.
I think the most important thing is to drive it as often as possible. people get caught up on trying to get everything DONE and get burnt out. Not being personal, but how did you guys manage a detour to Alabama? That Wal-Mart you stopped at in Pell City is very close to my Monday work location.
ok i want to start off by saying great job with the buses and moving them. so i was wondering a couple things. first is im trying to figure out why you spent a couple months in alabama? do you have a winter house down there or just stayed intill the buses were fixed? and next thing is why dose rob need so much cooking oil? dose he have a boideisel or something along those lines? the videos were great and spent most of the night learning on your adventures with 853 and 855!!!!!
You can run those busses to death and they are built to run forever and ever if its always well maintained properly and, if you don't, well, it's just an ole piece of metial. Does anyone know if there's another vid❓❓
Thats one bad ass sounding bus. Looks and sounds like the mexican sultana bus. I hope u guys restore it that engine sounds like a monster. Make more videos of it running.
So, if I'm correct, there was a single bus between these two on the production line? Do you know if they both went to the same operator since they were produced so close together?
If money is an issue, you can not afford it! I have a bus just like this ... it's about 8 inches long, looks brand new, and sits on top of my dresser, right next to my wedding picture! ;-P
@@kevinisam Sadly, they were mostly scrapped and recycled, like many vintage busses (that weren't scrapped but sold at the end of their service life) are being to this day. There seems to be a steady stream of old conversions popping up in various states of disrepair due to the old timers that owned them starting to pass. If neglected, they quickly become worth more in parts and scrap than whole, at least with the current level of interest/popularity/demand.
I remember riding on this particular
model bus when it was part of the
Greyhound fleet, more than 50 years ago.
I think my first ride in one was around 1963. Sacramento to LA. Took a long, long time.
Holy crap...greyhound scenicruisers! Best busses ever!
Bluebirds are pretty nice too.
Yeah. Back when takin the bus was a nice experience. Not the nightmare it is these days
Especially with original four-speed stick transmissions/8-cylinder Diesel engines.
Unless u get the busses running down 9 mile Beach in New Zealand hehheh.

You guys still around? Updates? Really liked seeing what you were doing with the buses.
Love the design of this bus, she'll be a beauty when she's done over.
Yep love that design
Such a classic and that engine sounds like new!
looks like a good model to be rebuilt as a long distance sleeper coach bus.
That bus looks like an STD on 8 wheels. Lol! When he first brought it out onto the road I instantly heard the Sanford and Son theme song. Lol!!!
The sweet sound of a Detroit, is that a 10 speed transmission you have in it.

I don't believe that dude with the long hair didn't get it in the fan belt.
I got a 1953 GMC with full RV hook ups only thing left is but I mean bedroom everything else is new or five years old but never used long list 25,000 needs pain
are you guys restoring that thing that's going to be the coolest thing on the road
Imagine pulling into a gas station with one of those in the old greyhound scheme.
Lol
Beautiful beautiful bus
It looks like the bus that was in the movie, The Country Bears. I love that movie. Lol I love the way that old bus started right up.
Looks like a Detroit 92. Nice
The Daisy Dillman band in Minnesota had two of these . All decked out

I rode a greyhound one time from Parsons Kansas to Lafayette Indiana in 1964.
Never again.
That must've been some journey....?......All that scenery and I reckon you had a fair few crazies on that journey too. I wish I could have done that trip.
Try Tampa Florida to Los Angeles 1978
Curious, Are either of the Scenicruisers possibly available for purchase? If so, i would be interested....

Nice collection. Is your dad 'Somewhereinusa' on skoolie net?
Thumbs up liked for you.
Wow!!!! Love those old civil rights busses from the 60's.
Your not supposed to do that.
TRONICVISION scenicruisers had nothing to do with civil rights, that's a different era and a city bus just FYI
The registry Tom has answered that question for me. 853 went to Atlantic Greyhound Lines and 855 to Southeastern Greyhound Lines.

So, if I'm correct, there was a single bus between these two on the production line? Do you know if they both went to the same operator since they were produced so close together?

There are roughly 230 pd4501 Scenicruises still around today. we were lucky to find these two.
So what happened to the other 800?
