Argentine here! Historically speaking, Dulce de Leche was made for the first time in the Río de la Plata region, although a similar variant was first made in Indonesia. The original recipe contains whole milk, sugar, vanilla and baking soda. The taste is completely different to the one with condensed milk, you should give it a try! Anyways, I really liked the recipe and can´t wait to try it!!
Its actually not that hard to find real dulce de leche in London! There are many companies that sell Argentine products even door to door ☺️ I recomend La Serenisima.
Well, from what I understand variants of it were made it South East Asia, which then were brought to the Spanish Colonies in the Americas. And like many other things that can be traced to the Spanish influence in the region (like alfajores and empanadas) it is hard to trace the origin to one particular country in Latin America, as they all have legends about the origin of the dishes. But the version we have today and what the entire world now knows as Dulce de Leche, can be first traced back to colonial records in Chile. I agree with with Agus on her recommendation to try the original recipe or the many Argentinian brands that one can get in London. Although the condensed milk one is a nice alternative when one can't buy the real product (and it does the job well when one is home-sick ❤️).
I've actually tried that recipe with different kinds of milk, namely, cow's, goat's, and buffalo (we call the beast carabao in the Philippines). The differences were just subtle. The goat's milk one was slightly sour, while the buffalo one was just a tinge grassy (I can't find the proper word. Buffalo milk itself is reminiscent of hay and grass). I don't think, though, that the differences are pronounced enough to be noticed in a complex dish like cheesecake.
What's wonderful about watching this channel is that no matter who is on camera, it's certain to be a friendly, charming, and engaging video. Love having Jemma back on the regular, and glad we have Sally and Dane, as well! Love the whole crew! Thank you for always brightening my day!
I just lost my bird today and was crying the whole day but seeing jemma and sally soothed my gloominess a little. Thanks for this jemma and sally! You guys are really like sunshine*-*
I'm in Texas and was making my shopping list as I watched. Added Oreos and a container of dulce de leche to my list. Yeah, we can get it at the grocery store here. Lovely video!
Omg I'm still on catch up binge watching and today I did this cheesecake BEFORE I'd even seen this video!! I did digestive biscuits instead and I had no idea the caramel was called this I've done this like my mum taught me and just called it Brown condensed milk!! You guys are definitely rubbing off on me (much to my partner and sons delight!) ❤
That reaction fr. Jemma's face trying on that dulce de leche cheesecake makes me want to grab that plate fr. Her hand 😋😋😋😍 I will definitely try this 😊
I made my first ever trifle this year when I had a bit of a baking disaster.. I was making the Lemon Meringue cake and they got stuck to the tin! So couldn’t use it as a layer cake but made into a trifle with blueberries and raspberries!
In Brazil you just go to the market and buy a dulce de leche (doce de leite in portuguese) already made. We love it! It's pretty common to use it as a filling in birthday cakes
If you have an Instant Pot or pressure cooker, I heard that you can make dulce de leche in there in about 40 minutes...depending on if you open the can or leave it closed. A quick Google should bring something up for you. :) I don't think I've ever had dulce de leche, but Starbucks is using it in their Toasted White Chocolate Mocha as the 'toasted' bit of the sauce/syrup & I want to make my own, so I just investigated it & now you came out with this! It looks YUMMY. Have a great day! :)
This looks amazing! Cannot wait to try it! And I so enjoy how you make your videos so entertaining as well as educational! Well done! (I’m learning metric measurements and new terms for baking ingredients… I’m in Missouri, USA!)
I'm sure that Sally must have grabbed herself a big slice of the cheesecake 😁 She's a darling! It looks *ultimate* Loved the recipe and to see you back again with another delicious treat❤️...
Hey Jemma! Thanks for sharing the recipe! Would like to know how you took the cheesecake off the base of the tin.....cause I could never do that without destroying the cheesecake 😭 PS you guys are amazing! Love the energy you bring! 😍
Hey! Saw this comment and I used to be the same. What I do now is put a pot on the hob and turn it on to slightly heat… I don’t leave it on long… put a tea towel down and trun the pot upside down and then put the cheesecake on top for seconds and the butter in the base slightly loosens off enough for you to slide it off base. Obvs just repeat it if it’s not quite loosening. Hope this helps :-}
Could you do a recipe for a coconut cake? The internet has very limited recipes available but it’s such a delicious cake I’d love to see what you guys do for it.
Ooo very nice cheesecake Jemma! I love it! I try to make it! What is the name of hand mixer you use on these video? They looks very nice! Have a nice day! 👍👏🍫🍫🍫
My mum always made us a caramel tart from scratch by boiling the condensed milk can, I think she only had 1 tin explode in 21 years💖 thanks for the lovely reminder of my mum today❣️
Love your videos! Can’t wait to try this deliciousness 😞 Also love those bowls and trays you all use that are half speckled and half solid color! Where did you get those cuties?
The last time I bought condensed milk (1 month ago) it was in a heavy plastic pouch. Because of Covid our groceries don’t seem to have the shelves stocked completely and all I could find was the pouch, also it was around Christmas so maybe that was also a factor. Hopefully the stores here aren’t switching completely to the pouches
Could we just use a grahm cracker crust? Or will it alter the taste to much? Also I’m making these as minis and wondering if the filling would taste fine if I just add the boiled condensed milk into the cheesecake filling so I don’t have to make a second layer?
Great recipe, thanks! Question: what's the reason you bake the crust rather than just chill it? And also, I've always added the butter straight after melting it, so was intrigued that it's better to let it cool slightly, why is that? I think I'll try this with biscoff myself 😁
Thank you so much for what looks like an Amazingly decadent cheesecake. I would love to give it a try. My only concern is that could it not be a bit too sweet?
Gotta try this looks incredible, mouth is watering just watching this, just 1 question, which i'm sure you get asked frequently but what is the best cream cheese to use for making this or any cheesecake.
As much as i love sally & the crew... Gosh it's good to have you back Jemma.

Think I'm going to do a biscoff base instead of oreo but definitely going to try this.
Just tried this wonderful recipe, so amazing!
In the U.K. you can buy dulce de leche in Sainsbury’s. The brand they sell is Mardel. Much better flavour than cooking condensed milk.
I would recommend to make your own as the taste is not comparable with the shop bought staff😉
@@Anna-lf8ku shop bought dulce de lech isn't as thick a consistency either

This looks so fabulous and I love it’s a no bake cheesecake. Thank you
Thank you for making my mouth water!!!

That’s got to be the best ever cheese cake . Thanks Jemma and Sally

In South Africa the "boiled" condensed milk is sold in stores and its called Caramel treat by Nestlé

A big slice or an entire cheesecake haha

For those in Australia you can buy dulce du leche in the tin in the supermarket or caramel top and fill rather than boiling condensed milk.
Missed you. Totally amazing cake. Can't wait to try it. 😍 It would be lovely though if you had a printable recipe. 😔🙏
Watch this space 😏
Could you do a recipe for a coconut cake? The internet has very limited recipes available but it’s such a delicious cake I’d love to see what you guys do for it.
It takes I and a half hours to boil the condensed milk and you can boil a few tins together and store them for another time
You're back! Hope your back is better....I've missed you!
Ooo very nice cheesecake Jemma! I love it! I try to make it! What is the name of hand mixer you use on these video? They looks very nice! Have a nice day! 👍👏🍫🍫🍫

It’s sooo nice to see you Jemma 🥰🥰
I'm going to make tomorrow, it really looks delicious.😋😋
I have a question. Can I use the cheesecake filling which is ready at 6:43 and make regular cheesecake with it (on a crust ofcourse)?
My mum always made us a caramel tart from scratch by boiling the condensed milk can, I think she only had 1 tin explode in 21 years💖 thanks for the lovely reminder of my mum today❣️
Love your videos! Can’t wait to try this deliciousness 😞
Also love those bowls and trays you all use that are half speckled and half solid color! Where did you get those cuties?
Could I add salt to the Dulce de leche to get a similar flavour to salted caramel or would it not work as well
Another fantastic video btw
OMG!!! I literally screamed your name! Glad your back
This looks so delicious.
Looks so delicious and easy ! I love Oreo cheesecake! Hardest part would be waiting ❤️
My notification didn't pop up 😔😔 seen on Instagram and came straight over here, it looks delicious 😍😍
You could buy the condensed milk as caramel its was in the same place on the shelf.
I tried this amazing recipe
Please link where you got that gorgeous hand mixer!!
That look good Jemma thank you
This is the best cheesecake recipe I’ve ever come across! Thanks 😊
If you like this you should try my Malteser one. Or my Cookie dough one. Or Sally’s Basque cheese cake 😆
I've not even watched the video yet but I know I will be making this at the weekend
Hi can this cheesecake be baked as well?

Is that color of Cuisinart hand mixer only available in the UK?
Did I saw a WIRELESS MIXER ? I am not a big cheese cake lover (I know, I am weird) but WIRELESS MIXER is AWESOME !!!!
Can you do something diabetic friendly for the festive season please.
Do you know if you can boil the vegan condensed milk to produce the same product?
Jemma going gray, must be all this waiting for cheescakes that are in the fridge lol- great recipe and you are a sunshine!
In the video you state 210ml of double cream but the ingredient list says 210g...is this the same? Also will this freeze? Thanks from canada
