One of the best interviews I've ever heard, this one was legendary. I watch a lot of MMA/boxing where being good on the mic is extremely important for them to build up their brand and get themselves bigger fights and it is so damn rare to see someone have this ability to speak their mind in real time live on TV and make it sound funny, interesting and impactful. It's so effortless when he does it because he isn't forcing anything, this is really who he is, whereas when most guys try acting this way it just looks/sounds off and kind of makes you cringe. What a personality, any sport would kill to have someone like this around, snooker is so damn lucky to have him.

I honestly think thats him laying the gauntlet down to get some real competition. If he wins, its a ronnie that wins, if he loses, its because he lost to himself. Shaun could have done him early on, he was playing so poorly. Problem with the other players is they're beaten before they even start. They're so scared of Ronnie, even when Ronnie is playing badly they can't put him away. They need to grow a pair and stop being spectators in the Ronnie show.

When you can "read the table to the end" before you get down on your first shot that shows just how good and fast Ronnie's brain is around the snooker table I've only ever seen one other player who could do this and that was the late great Ray Reardon Even Stephen Hendry could only "read" half a dozen shots ahead and we all know how good he was in his prime

Ronnie is my mate. We've grown up playing snooker. I've beat him a few times. But he is really good, I've trained with him for years. He's been playing since the age of 2. He wanted to be an insurance salesman not I told him no ronz. (That's what his close mates call him) I says no ronz. You must follow your heart. And he says ok. The next year he went pro.
The rest is history. So I'm kind of responsible for it too.
We meet up every week for a coffee and a catch up. He's a top bloke, very down to earth. Loves a bit of banter.

Like Earl Strickland, when you're born to win this game, it comes quickly. Your brain clicks in immediately and you flow at an incredible speed. You can be a great player like hendry or Davis or like a shame van boring or Mike Sigel, but that's training and discipline with a bit of a gift and aptitude. Players like Earl, Efren Reyes and Ronnie have a God given gift of being the best no matter what

Reyes holds a losing record against more than 50% of the to professionals he's played against. He's also cooked in more finals and lost it on getting to the finals more often. Many of his kicks and tricks are flukes, which he has admitted on a hundred occasions.
Earl has been recognized by most peers as the greatest 9 ball player to ever live. Mosconi was the greatest 14:1 player, Reyes revered as the greatest all around, which is tremendous in and of itself, but in the day, Strickland was beyond reproach

When you look other sports like boxing and MMA there is always new talent . In UFC there always is young hungry prospects who are ready to climb the ladder. But sadly for Snooker you don't see talents like Higgins or Ronnie comming in
Oh yea. In the early 90’s the future was looking very bright for the sport. You had Williams, Higgins, Ronnie,McManus, Doherty, etc all coming through along with the established top players of Hendry, White and Davis.
Even this young influx of world class Chinese players has failed to materialise. None of the youngsters can maintain a high standard for sustained periods
The final is going to be interesting because the niggle is there already and has been for years, but Ali Carter gives as good as he gets and it seems to make him more determined when he senses an atmosphere and he plays on it..if he gets his nose in front then it could be interesting. It just depends which Ronnie shows up
