Ronnie still hasn't gotten over Peter Ebdon 😂
Who would
He's still waiting for him to take his shot.
@@gango23😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We all knew he was talking about Ebdon then 😂
Ronnie was 2 snookers away from naming names...
🤣
Ebdon is #1 on his list!
We all know he was having flashbacks of playing Peter Ebdon 😅
Open secret, no point naming them hahahaha
He didn’t like Ebdon but even he will admit he was a good player.
He’s is more on about the players who come out against the good guys and play to not lose instead of playing to win.
I love it and I love his admiration for Stephen because he is right Stephen was all about winning and attacking snooker. Two of the greats.
That's why Hendry likes Brecel, he plays attacking snooker and just gets down and commits to the shots.
McManus spot on as he regularly is, important not to make the game too different otherwise might as well watch pool
Seriously, there's always some busybody up in the management somewhere trying to mess around with things that are fine. It's snooker...that's the game. You will get some dull matches, some dull frames, some really thrilling frames, some amazing matches, some in between. What's this approach to everything now of endlessly meddling until it's broken? Always opportunists in charge of stuff wanting to make a name for themselves or something.
How about making the arenas less tacky with branding plastered everywhere you look including on the trophy and medal...at least the old cigarette sponsors knew how to design a fairly elegant looking arena. I still miss the globes at the World Championship in particular.
McAnus was the dullest of players
Leave snooker alone apart from Murphy get rid of self entitled doughnut
@@hmq9052Mc-My-Anus
Ronnie tying to stir things up. Great stuff.
But this is what the sport needs, characters. People criticised Vafaei for having a pop at Ronnie off the table, but it creates rivalries which all sports thrive on. What we don't want is robotic players with no personality, that's when the sport dies. I hope Ronnie doesn't retire for many many years yet
Yeah but it only works if it’s authentic.
@@searchterminatorseed2301 I hear ya but part of me likes him just doing it for the craic.
Or make it to his advantage
What's new?
Holding my breath waiting for Ronnie to name a name.
Same 😂😂
He could have coff-coffed it...
Even dropping that name would make the air stale
@@antoinecringemann which name would that be
@@mattdubovik3082 I will not say it because I might wake up and find my balls stuck to a cushion
The thing is Selby is hard to watch because of the length of time he takes on each shot. His ability cannot be questioned though. One of the best break builders ever, amazing temperament, probably the best tactically and with his pool knowledge he's a great shot maker. He just needs to speed up.
Selby takes his time knowing it winds opponents up. Ebdon was the same. Terrible sportsmanship
Hes Not that slow come on guys and you know it..
This is what makes it more inexcusable, he's got the ability to play proper snooker.
Selby is no slower than Bingham. That was proved in the WC Semi Final where Bingham was bitching about it. Turned out Selby was quicker than him when they looked at it.
selby isnt hard to watch at all
I remember Ray Reardon needing & getting 4 snookers to win the frame, superb to watch.
I personally feel that the safety aspects, snookers included are just as an important part of the game as the big breaks. It all requires skill.Knowledge in picking and executing the right shot effectively is of value even if it's not a blistering as big breaks. I feel that i wouldn't want to pay to see a match only for it to be over too quickly.
@@oliverbeard7912Yes i totally agree after all it is called snooker.
@oliverbeard7912 same as that
Gary Wilson just won the semifinal while needing 3 snookers and it was brilliant to watch
Totally agree with what Ronnie is saying and I like how he showed some respect for Hendry at the end
Ronnie is the master of winding people up love it.
then hides behind "mental health"
I find safety battles can be as entertaining as a 147. However, it does depend on the players involved sometimes. I don't actually mind a slow match, just so long as it's not piss-takingly slow, for example spending an hour on a frame because someone who could win just by clearing up the remaining points decided to start a safety exchange and drag it on for ages despite having several chances to put the frame away.
That's not a dig at Mark Selby btw, I actually like him a fair bit, but in general I've noticed the more safety-minded players are slowing down to a degree that would even infuriate Cliff Thorburn.
As a last note though, Hendry and Murphy are wrong overall, their view defeats the purpose of the game being called 'snooker', however I think Ronnie is right concerning the overall pace of certain matches
Even though it's called 'snooker', who wants to sit there for 10 years watching the same frame trying to 'hide' the cue ball? Now and again it's ok, but I'd much rather watch break building, clever positioning of the ball and high scoring and an amazing 147 than ohhhh he's missed it again....ohhhh he's missed it again.....ohhhh he's missed it again....ohhh he's missed it again.....oohhhhh he's missed it again....when you are 50 ahead they are on 1 and trying to pot the pink and now they are on 25 with almost no chance of you hitting the pink. Does ONE clever or 'lucky' snooker equate to all the positioning of the ball during break building and scoring points that way? I personally don't think so and the really mind boggling-ly slow players are like watching paint dry, but again my opinion. If I could I'd easily go bk to watching snooker from the 80s to the 00s.
No doubt there will be people who prefer snookers and a sloooow moving game, but I'm thinking like much of today, it's just not as gd as years gone by, that goes for most of tv, movies, music, games and so on.
So who's going to be the one that steps up to the plate and 'changes' the game again? 🤷🏼♂️
At the end he predicted Higgins was going to win the match, predicted it so fast and turned out wrong.
Who did Higgins play with?
Absolute legend this man
i prefer watching someone going for snookers than a century break if everyone played the same way that would be boring .
agree
Same here, I like the tactical side. Makes the win more exciting
and hence thats why the game is slinding towards obscurity. Maybe they should breakaway from this discipline and create a new version called 'shootout'......just another branch out from snooker/billiards.
Yeah same, I love the safety side of the game
What Ronnie is talking about is the there is two different mentalities. Players who either play to win (attack), and players who play to not lose (defend). Obviously the tactics can ebb and flow and I’m with Ronnie on this; it’s not about an individual frame, it’s about style of play.
The ebb (-don) and flow is so correct
I agree with him. A player needing 1 or 2 snookers is acceptable but playing on needing 3 or 4 is boring as hell.
But then again snooker is so individual. Different strokes for different folks.
the best players have always been the atttacking players
guys that plays not to lose are a nuisance to snooker,9-ball or 10-ball.
Love him, straight to the point, says what he thinks no bullshit.😂 I hope Stan moody’s watching this.
Selby is the one the really grinds my gears; latest example is his match versus Barry Hawkins. Hypnotize then go for the kill.
I think Ronnie dislikes him because he came in the game playing attacking snooker but then changed his style up. It's made him more successful than he would have been but at the cost of exciting play.
I think Ronnie is talking about players who don't take on the right shots, they will have an 80% chance at a pot and play safe instead. Negative as in trying not to lose instead of trying to win !
Players have their own style. A variation of styles is actually what makes it interesting imo. Seems incredibly narrow minded and simplistic to be complaining everyone isn’t playing the same way. There’s subtleties to these things, whether it’s confidence, the score of the game, weighing up risk & reward.
@@searchterminatorseed2301 I don't think he wants everyone to play the SAME way, he just wants them not to be a drag and to get on with the game.
What on earth is the "right shot"? The right shots are what wins you the game. Period. They can be safeties or pots.
Selby dominated the tour for over 4 years. Obviously, his "negative" and "boring" game is very successful.
Players like Ronnie simply can't stand people who think about their next shot, and play different than him. Because he's full of himself. That's all there is to this, really.
@@chakko007It's not that simple. Where does the money in snooker come from? The fans, those who watch on TV and in person. Do fans want to watch boring but effective snooker? No. If everyone played like Selby and Ebdon there would be no sport left.
@@MalcolmPowder Watch any Selby game, and you will find that he gets a lot of applause for his way of playing. It's only some jerks on TH-cam or TV who call him "Slowby" and what not.
"It's called "Snooker" after all." - Exactly.
When you have walked the walk like Ronnie has many times, talking the talk is a given. Well said sir!
Look forward to Ronnies interviews just as much as his snooker now! What a legend
In a good match i hope to see a good mix of awesome clearances and a few nip and tuck tacktical games. Potting is potting, but Snooker needs snookers.
Couldn't agree more 👍
The quickest answer was to the question "who is going to win this match"? John Higgins😂
You have variants of snooker which force a fast game, for instance the shot clock in the Shoot Out. I'd be interested to see a variant which forces a more attacking game, for instance deducting points for each shot where a ball isn't potted.
He is so wright. good on him telling the truth.
get down to the nitty gritty and start talking about things for a change, imagine British politicians thought like that...
Legend Ronnie.
Appalling comments. These players are trying their best to earn a living - not everyone has Ronnie’s natural ability. Let everyone have their own style. Who is to say what style of snooker is “proper”
That's it; now I'm gonna get O'Sullivan to pot your fart 🤪
the guy who is the GOAT, for starters.
What a pr***. Gamesmanship, pure and simple.
Wouldn’t mind seeing something like a two minute shot clock really, especially since most pros know the game well enough to see the correct shot rather quickly. It would definitely speed the game up.
Two minutes seems very high
You could go for one minute I suppose but one of the problems with shot clocks is that some players might take it to the limit on most shots and end up being even slower
Maybe looking at the average shot time over a season and penalising players going over, say 25 seconds per shot would work better - but I’m not totally convinced it’s necessary - we seem to have a bigger proportion of fast players in this era and the days of having over a dozen players taking over 30 seconds per shot seem to be behind us, thankfully
Boring or not is a matter of taste. Seeing people coming back from 4 snookers and then win, is magic. Maybe Ronnie is talking about his own matches and when he is losing slowly?
He repeatedly said it's not about the snookers, it's the way people play. Ie, taking 40 seconds per shot, on every single shot no matter the difficulty of the situation. Theb you have those that stop going for pots at all unless they're 2 foot pots, they will play safe, purposely not going for pots, for 20 to 30 minutes, purely to get under the other players skin.
its really simple.. you need to time the shots .. somehow... and also make rules that you cannot hit small shots like when a player touches a red with lite shots and the other do the same.. and you need rerack
Even the most boring professional Snooker match in history was infinitely more entertaining than watching professional Chess 😂
Is that an interview after the Wilson - Zhou match?
‘John Higgins.’
😂😂🤣
There’s no such thing as “the right way”. Your *preferred way* is a different concept.
Love seeing Ronnie like this, showing his passion and enthusiasm for the game! He's right too, its all about being entertaining. He's a sell out because he plays the game how it should be played. Its the 'win at all cost' mentality that needs ironing out. Probably boils down to the fact that the players arent getting paid enough money!
But how can you get rid of the whole of China?
@@RasT108genetically engineered virus? 🦟
Ronnie is a geezer. Love it!
Both are spot on.
Think he means players like Martin O’Donnell, anyone taking over 30 seconds a shot consistently is taking the piss! Barry Hern said he was going to fine players taking over 30 seconds but it never happened 🙄!
Ronnie is the GOAT. Everyone would love to be able to play like him. He would probably be able to win tournaments playing left-handed. The most talented player to ever grace the green baize. However, as in any pro individual sport, every player has to find a way to win, to pay the bills. It is the different ways to play the game, the different techniques used, the mind games, the gamesmanship. This is a part of every sport. This is what makes sport compelling. The best don't always win.
Make snooker more interesting? It is a minority sport for a reason. It is as interesting to the general public as it will ever get. It does pretty well for itself considering.
Ronnie is a legend of the game, for his long-standing brilliance. He got to the top because he is remarkably talented, wholeheartedly selfish, arrogant, and totally intolerant of others he considers beneath him. There are many worse snooker players than him around but not many worse people.
What tournament just took place ??? Anybody ?
I think Ronnie knows his time on the tour is coming to an end so he’s gonna tell everyone a few home truths. He wants to go out with a bang. Unfortunately the game dies when he retires. There’s a handful of entertaining players still but without Ronnie ticket sales will decrease and the game will go stale. I think he would carry on but he’s fed up with the politics and the powers that be don’t really want him upsetting the apple cart anymore. He’s a genius and his talent will never be matched.
Yeah course, hardly wins anymore does he an what is he in the rankings, number 1? Yeah retiring soon definitely. 😂
The game dies when he retires? Lol 😂 the game made him. Alex Higgins made him, Jimmy White made him, Steve Davis made him, Steven Hendry made him. The game was at its most popular before Ronnie even picked up a cue,
@@thesmithsnerd Mainly because there were 3 channels and cigarette money...different world now. It's like golf and Tiger Woods but snooker being way less global than golf. Golf is still all over the place now
@@thesmithsnerd maybe it's been more popular here in the past but currently worldwide snooker has never been more popular.
Ronnie has been like this since day 1 😂 this is literally just Ronnie bored. 😂
There will never be another Ronnie O'Sullivan for the next 3000 years.
What about 3000 years after that ?
His son.
I agree. It will be the 3,001st year when he next appears. Good call!
I say this as someone who cannot stand the man but Ronnie is a pleasure to watch he has a fluidity and a style thats natural and carefree ,shaun Murphy plays similar and there is no doubt watching them is easier on the eye than even the likes of Kyren wilson ,gary wilson Ali carter etc etc etc theyt just seem robotic there is no natural panache or flair but even they are still extremely watchable ........ its when you get down to the dawdling piss takers who take a minute a shot and basically never attempt anything ....Selby the other night was ridiculous turning down pretty "basic" pots time and time again
Should be a 3 snooker rule. If you need 3 snookers that's it, frame over. Best of both worlds then. You remove the playing on when there is a minute chance of winning the frame and the reward for laying snookers is still valid
Ronnie has it right. Most people do not want to watch a 60 minute “technical “ frame unless it is for all the marbles. Even Selby has sped up his game from the 5 minutes brooding over a safety shot.
Nothing wrong with a 60 minute technical frame if one player isn’t taking the piss with his shots
7 world championships, 40 ranking titles, nearly 50 and still on top... This man can say what he wants cuz the game is dead without him.
Meanwhile, Peter Ebdon is still eyeing up his first red after break off shot, and Sloby still thinking should he pot the next colour or snooker behind yellow ball.
You see this guy, rocket Ronny speaks from the balls, absolutely agree with the king, love him man, top box office guy right there.
Snooker will suffer & will never be the same without Ronnie Most people don't watch snooker tournament if he's not init so you can imagine the rest
Snooker gonna be soooooooo boring when ronnie puts that cue away
No it won’t
I agree with the 'no it won't' brigade, but with the caveat that the aggregate watchability will take a slight hit, as Ronnie is more entertaining than most.
Err no this tournament has been great and he pulled out.
@@neilgoodyer9606It 100% will 😂
No it ain't. As long as Ron's got a voice this game is alive
This guy knows what's up. Some snooker players couldnt care less there is a public watching and choose to go for safeties when there was a clear shot for them to take on. And then the frame goes on for 20 plus minutes of nothing. Snooker lovers can say anything but nothing will change the fact that people will stop watching it without more action. If they want to get paid more they need to provide more show.
Criticise Ronnie’s beliefs but you have to remember the bloke grew up round Alex Higgins, Jimmy White then Stephen Hendry then all the other players that met Ronnie and Battled him, Stephen Lee, Paul Hunter, Neil Robertson, John Higgins etc… he has a point!
Lol he means Selby 🤣🤣
@shacharrachmany1102 Be funny if Selby passes Ronnie on World titles tho 😂
@@jackbaker1921 He'll still be a boring player even then 🤣🤣
Ronnie is absolutely right. The game may have more consistent higher breaks, better positional play, less easy misses etc etc, but it is sterile for the most part. All sports have benefitted from technology which has in many ways made player failings less "punished" for want of a better word. Records are being broken every week.. Yes due to a better skill level but also due to the advancements in equipment. Golf has now introduced a ball that will cut down driving distance, but at least being an outdoor sport the elements, rain wind, heat etc still play a large factor as it does with F1, Tennis, Rugby etc etc. Indoor sports/games are not subject to any such elements. You know what you are going to get for the most part. If a player is dull and digs in then it's a torturous watch. Snooker could do with a few Hurricanes and Whirlwinds and maybe a rocket for some players. Thank god for Ronnie, Judd, Robertson Brecel from the current crop and Alex, Jimmy, Drago, Cliff Wilson to mention just a few and not forgetting Hendry who back in the day in my opinion had the complete balance of Skill and guts to go for their shots.
The game is literally called snooker 😂😂
He is absolutely right.target is not just win .they should enjoy and entertaining everyone is watching.

Couldn't agree more, players like Selby and Ebdon kill the game, I just switch straight off. Earlier days were Griffiths, Thornburn, like watching paint dry. Definitely bring in a shot timer like I believe they have in golf now
Ronnie digging out someone... Any ideas?
This is why we love him, just says what you feel.
Love it! He's not wrong. He knows when the best era of snooker was and when he shone brightest too, when many others shone bright along side him, a time where many played good attacking high scoring snooker....unlike today sadly. Ronnie is head and shoulders above the rest today and no one is really touching him, unlike days gone by with the likes of Ronnie, Hendry, Higgins, White and so on all playing good attacking snooker that was entertaining...those days are well missed!
Who is to blame for the decline into boring snooker?
When The GOAT speaks everyone should listen
Ronnie has the freedom to say what he wants now.. He's taken Hendry's crown.. The best player ever to grace a snooker table.
He's sharing it
Not the most exciting though, think that goes to Alex Higgins, or maybe Jimmy white, both way ahead of O,sullivan or Hendry for making the game exciting
Funnily, Selby can win frames where he needs 4 Snookers. It's part of the game, Ronnie. Face it.
Yet o Sullivan is still far and away the greatest player of all time. Face that
He can win frames, but not as many as O'Sullivan or Hendry. Those two can also entertain a crowd, attract sponsors and grow the game.
Having said that, I'm not in favour of capping the limit on snookers, that's nonsense.
Ronnie actually said he liked watching people play for snookers. He just couldnt be bothered himself
John Spencer once won a frame after needing six snookers.
Did u listen u twat?
Love you Ronnie. You tell em pal 😭😭😭😭
If you're getting rid of snookers then you're getting rid of centuries because once you've got to c70 points then you should stop that way also as the frame is mathematically won.
That's not true. Have you ever seen someone come back to the table 85 behind? Other than to stay warm, that is.
lolol, I wonder who Ronnie was talking about 😀

The rule should be as follows: If a player that needs 3 or more snookers to win decides to play on, should he happen to lose the frame, his opponent gets awarded 2 frames instead of just the one.
You can tell Ronnie is aiming this at slowby
Big changes are coming to the world of snooker simply cause Ronnie is right. Nobody wants to go to the snooker during the day on a Tuesday to watch dull players. Snooker needs to become an evening sport and weekends with players championships like darts has only having the best ok display
For me the more safety and snookers, the better! The game needs to remain pure
Definitely the Peter Ebdon situation, and he’s right. The only time I fell asleep watching a final. He was an absolute disgrace.
The most boring thing in snooker is Ronnie constantly stirring in interviews. Like, cheer up mate, you're already a millionaire and the goat, why do you have to be so grumpy?
I don't think he means to come across that way it's just his personality I guess... Depends on the question also... Bear in mind he is still an active player and no.1.... he might be less "grumpy" as you put it, when he retires ..😊
You're right mate, he sometimes wants to say something different just to look different/special, but he doesn't need to do that, he already is special and always will be. I like his insights but sometimes he's just talking nonsense. Hey, he's just human, after all, he's entitled to do that.
@@Callumrobbo22 you want a murderer in charge of snooker?
Ronnie got his bipolar head on 😂
He's unquestionably the best player ever to pick up a cue, and let's face it he can say whatever he likes as he's rewritten the snooker rulebook countless times, and is still doing it 30 years on. Doesn't mean his opinion is right though. It's easy to come out with stuff like this when you're the best player in the world - but there's more than one way to play, and that's what makes the game so great.

Ive played players like ronnie and they hate players who make it awkward for them because they just wanna play their way and get their own way.
But the reality is everyone has their own style of play and you can win in different ways.
When you make it awkward and knock the black up the table you start getting little comments and laughs, because they know you just scuppered their game

Ronnie is right, Steve Davis was the worst. Horrible snooker. To the point, he almost killed the game. That's why Alex and Jimmy were so popularly, because Davis was anti-snooker.

some respect him, some dont. the man's marmite. simple as that. snooker is historically a gentlemens game watched by gentlemen and ronnie has always been the badboy, the misfit of the game which attracted a whole wider audience.
