      Seriously, there's always some busybody up in the management somewhere trying to mess around with things that are fine. It's snooker...that's the game. You will get some dull matches, some dull frames, some really thrilling frames, some amazing matches, some in between. What's this approach to everything now of endlessly meddling until it's broken? Always opportunists in charge of stuff wanting to make a name for themselves or something.
      How about making the arenas less tacky with branding plastered everywhere you look including on the trophy and medal...at least the old cigarette sponsors knew how to design a fairly elegant looking arena. I still miss the globes at the World Championship in particular.

    I find safety battles can be as entertaining as a 147. However, it does depend on the players involved sometimes. I don't actually mind a slow match, just so long as it's not piss-takingly slow, for example spending an hour on a frame because someone who could win just by clearing up the remaining points decided to start a safety exchange and drag it on for ages despite having several chances to put the frame away.
    That's not a dig at Mark Selby btw, I actually like him a fair bit, but in general I've noticed the more safety-minded players are slowing down to a degree that would even infuriate Cliff Thorburn.
    As a last note though, Hendry and Murphy are wrong overall, their view defeats the purpose of the game being called 'snooker', however I think Ronnie is right concerning the overall pace of certain matches

    • @L1ghtOn3
      @L1ghtOn3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even though it's called 'snooker', who wants to sit there for 10 years watching the same frame trying to 'hide' the cue ball? Now and again it's ok, but I'd much rather watch break building, clever positioning of the ball and high scoring and an amazing 147 than ohhhh he's missed it again....ohhhh he's missed it again.....ohhhh he's missed it again....ohhh he's missed it again.....oohhhhh he's missed it again....when you are 50 ahead they are on 1 and trying to pot the pink and now they are on 25 with almost no chance of you hitting the pink. Does ONE clever or 'lucky' snooker equate to all the positioning of the ball during break building and scoring points that way? I personally don't think so and the really mind boggling-ly slow players are like watching paint dry, but again my opinion. If I could I'd easily go bk to watching snooker from the 80s to the 00s.
      No doubt there will be people who prefer snookers and a sloooow moving game, but I'm thinking like much of today, it's just not as gd as years gone by, that goes for most of tv, movies, music, games and so on.
      So who's going to be the one that steps up to the plate and 'changes' the game again? 🤷🏼‍♂️

    What Ronnie is talking about is the there is two different mentalities. Players who either play to win (attack), and players who play to not lose (defend). Obviously the tactics can ebb and flow and I’m with Ronnie on this; it’s not about an individual frame, it’s about style of play.

      Players have their own style. A variation of styles is actually what makes it interesting imo. Selby dominated the tour for over 4 years. Obviously, his "negative" and "boring" game is very successful.

    • @sanctuary5
      @sanctuary5 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Two minutes seems very high
      You could go for one minute I suppose but one of the problems with shot clocks is that some players might take it to the limit on most shots and end up being even slower
      Maybe looking at the average shot time over a season and penalising players going over, say 25 seconds per shot would work better - but I’m not totally convinced it’s necessary - we seem to have a bigger proportion of fast players in this era and the days of having over a dozen players taking over 30 seconds per shot seem to be behind us, thankfully

    Ronnie is the GOAT. Everyone would love to be able to play like him. He would probably be able to win tournaments playing left-handed. The most talented player to ever grace the green baize. However, as in any pro individual sport, every player has to find a way to win, to pay the bills. It is the different ways to play the game, the different techniques used, the mind games, the gamesmanship. This is a part of every sport. This is what makes sport compelling. The best don't always win.
    Make snooker more interesting? It is a minority sport for a reason. It is as interesting to the general public as it will ever get. It does pretty well for itself considering.
    Ronnie is a legend of the game, for his long-standing brilliance. He got to the top because he is remarkably talented, wholeheartedly selfish, arrogant, and totally intolerant of others he considers beneath him. There are many worse snooker players than him around but not many worse people.

    I say this as someone who cannot stand the man but Ronnie is a pleasure to watch he has a fluidity and a style thats natural and carefree ,shaun Murphy plays similar and there is no doubt watching them is easier on the eye than even the likes of Kyren wilson ,gary wilson Ali carter etc etc etc theyt just seem robotic there is no natural panache or flair but even they are still extremely watchable ........ its when you get down to the dawdling piss takers who take a minute a shot and basically never attempt anything ....Selby the other night was ridiculous turning down pretty "basic" pots time and time again

    Should be a 3 snooker rule. If you need 3 snookers that's it, frame over. Best of both worlds then. You remove the playing on when there is a minute chance of winning the frame and the reward for laying snookers is still valid

And then the frame goes on for 20 plus minutes of nothing. Snooker lovers can say anything but nothing will change the fact that people will stop watching it without more action. Ronnie is absolutely right. The game may have more consistent higher breaks, better positional play, less easy misses etc etc, but it is sterile for the most part. All sports have benefitted from technology which has in many ways made player failings less "punished" for want of a better word. Records are being broken every week.. Yes due to a better skill level but also due to the advancements in equipment. Golf has now introduced a ball that will cut down driving distance, but at least being an outdoor sport the elements, rain wind, heat etc still play a large factor as it does with F1, Tennis, Rugby etc etc. Indoor sports/games are not subject to any such elements. You know what you are going to get for the most part. If a player is dull and digs in then it's a torturous watch. Snooker could do with a few Hurricanes and Whirlwinds and maybe a rocket for some players. Thank god for Ronnie, Judd, Robertson Brecel from the current crop and Alex, Jimmy, Drago, Cliff Wilson to mention just a few and not forgetting Hendry who back in the day in my opinion had the complete balance of Skill and guts to go for their shots.
