But let's face it, the point of a ref is to not include the opposition, because that would put them in a bad spot. Either he insists on his right which makes him look bad in front of he audience or he caves which hurts his chances. Imagine a footballer taking a dive and the ref asking them whether they were fouled.

@@gregoirefourniermontgieux2033I had to find the full video myself and look up the rules.
So Judd broke and Ronnie's shot on the red was tight after. He asked the ref and Judd to check that he could see the red and had a possible shot on it (in case it was replaced). He took it and missed everything, ending up on the middle left of table.
Now the ref replaces the ball back to where it was originally, as this is apparently the rules they are using when there is a foul and a miss. Then Ronnie is not happy with the placement being the same.

Pause at 4:24 - nearly a half ball difference in position. The referee and players should be able to see a monitor and comparison between current/original position until it’s blob on perfect. Even if they disagree with how the shot looks to the naked eye when looking through the cue ball towards object ball.

O’Sullivan has previous for not assisting refs when they’re trying to replace the ball, it’s how he does it, he doesn’t help himself. There’s not much more the ref can do there, if you want to be frustrated at anyone it’s the marker who can see what is actually required.
