Every video I've seen with Alison, at the beginning of each song, she always step back, and let the musician in front have the spotlight. After the intro, she step forward. What class she has.
from Jose'....The Kid From L. A.............Alison is a national treasure. She is a perfect gemstone set in platinum..........have always loved her and always will..........
If I live a virtuous life and find myself ushered through the pearly gates, I may not now be able to imagine the gorgeous sights that I'll see, but I know it I will hear Allison's voice there, and not tire of it too eternity.
what would this world be without the outstanding voices of alison krauss, dolly parton, linda ronstadt and emmylou harris? it is real joy, such pure, true beauty. this voices heal my suffering heart every single day. thank you beautyful souls.
If this isn't the sweetest music, I don't know what is. What an awesome LADY. The gentleman on the dobro just adds to the sweetness of this performance.
"There are few singers out there today who can sing like this live. No digitalization, no studio to cover up the flaws, just pure vocal." Anyone who has seen Alison Krauss perform live knows the truth in your praise.
Magnificent interpretation of a classic. Thank you, Alison and Jerry! I live in North Carolina but spend most of my time on the highway in my 18 wheeler. "Dark and silent late last night I think I might have heard the highway calling. Geese in flight and dogs that bite." Just last Tuesday outside Knoxville I saw a flock of Canada geese, flying under the quarter moon migrating south. Two weeks ago, I was at a IMS check station in Texas. The guards had a German Shepherd up on my running boards sniffing my cab. I petted the dog on the head. The guards yelled "DO NOT pet the dog. He will bite!!" Well he didn't bite me I am the buddy of all dogs, and cats too. Anyway, the highway is calling, geese are in flight and dogs may bite. But, I am going to Carolina in my mind. Forty years ago James Taylor wrote this song for me. Thank you, James, Alison, and Jerry. Scott Lewis
Scott Lewis Beautifully said, Scott. I've been through the Carolinas twice, when I was in college, age 20, fifty years ago. But the beauty of the mountains along I-85 around Salisbury was spectacular, and I remember them still, to this day. They left an indelible imprint in MY mind, and the words in the lyrics were almost ironic. I was on my way to Louisiana to visit my uncle, and I estimated it would take 2 and a half days. It did. But going through Virginia and the Carolinas was worth the effort. Absolutely pretty country. It was difficult to concentrate on my driving. I remember making a mental note to consider the Carolinas for my retirement, but a bad back and chronic pain burst that bubble. So I can only dream about them, and talk about them on TH-cam.
god damn it. always listen to rock and metal but come back on occasions and listen to her voice. the only woman who can instantly bring tears to my eyes. so sorrowful, angelic and beautiful. my favorite ever female singer
I believe every word she sings. It always feels like the first time I've ever heard the song when I hear her sing it, no matter what it is. She is a one of a kind God gifted musician.
Her secret is that she is humble on stage; and in this song, Jerry Douglas gives her beautiful support with his dobro and his voice. They are a perfect pair for this song. Everyone says she has the voice of an angel, but I disagree; she is an angel, on loan to us.
Alison you are my most favorite Bluegrass Singer. Saw you early 2000 at Pompano Beach, Florida outdoor venue in light rain. We sat center second row and every song went to our hearts.....two big tall 6' plus guys crying with tears of joy!!! You were awesome Alison!! Thanks!!!
I watched this tribute to JT on AXS TV earlier today. He was chosen as Person of the Year by Music Cares back in 2006, and several artists paid tribute to his music. This song made me weep with its beauty. She's lovely.
I agree, her voice is so angelic and peaceful. I enjoy all her music and put Jacobs Dream at the top. JT is also at the top for favorite performers as well.
algonacchick Thanks for sharing the background regarding this performance. I hadn't heard about James' selection for this tribute, but he sure deserves it. He seems to genuimely be one of the good guys in the music business and his gentle and kind spirit comes through in this and many of his songs to the point of making me weep a bit when I think on them and especially when I hear them. JT forever!
She is so true to the music. She will be talked about long after she's gone. Not that I'm in a hurry for her to leave. In this woman beats a heart of pure gold.
I believe James Taylor wrote this song not knowing one day the most beautiful angelic voice in the world would be singing it. Alison is singing this how it was meant to be. Just absolutely breathtaking!!!
I do think the most important thing here is that Alison keeps the feel of the song where it belongs, and that is the truest form of flattery when doing someone else's song. I can't imagine James Taylor not smiling at this rendition ,,, Is it not funny 34 people have a dislike for heartfelt music, I guess they don't like feeling ....
The most perfect voice EVER!!! so crystal clear and angelic. Alison is the greatest. And the most gorgeous woman in the word. I believe James wrote this song with a voice like hers in mind to sing it one day. And he didn't even know it!!!
I always think of Heaven when I hear this. My mother did too! It was her favorite duo that my brother & I did. She passed away in 2002 & we haven't sang it together since.
I'm thinking this was from the PBS Special a few years back. I couldn't believe the beautiful I was listening to when I flipped by that PBS channel (on my VHS tape). I kick myself for not having listened to Alison all these years. I thought I'd heard some pretty expressive Country women's voices - then this and "When You Say Nothing At All"
Saw her play at Sanders Theater at Harvard in 1988, when she was 17. I stepped out of the headliner's set to go to the restroom, & bumped into her in the hallway. I told her she did well land she gave me a shy thanks and a shoulder squeeze. An affectionate, sweet girl.
yes I agree, I graduated in 74, and still listen to James as much now as I did back then, Fire and Rain was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, still have my original Lp
Allison has a beautifully haunting voice that echos in your memory!! I think she is great!! Each song she does is uniquely hers alone...truly a great talent!!!
If you love your home state and the landscape you can never forget, the place where your people come from and lay in peace just think of this song and change the words a little it will take you home. (Colorado here!)
Beauty is Beauty call it what you will-she was born to sing like an Angel-even @ 14 she was amazing-now we get to hear her at her mature best! It's Beautiful to listen to-and Union Station rounds her out so well!!
Just true pleasure watching and listening to two master musicians! They are the heart and soul of "Akus": Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas of Union Station, his Dobro accompaniment, Interlude, and vocal harmony, in a beautiful rendition of James Taylor's tribute to the rolling, wooded hills of the Atlantic South, the Carolinas.
I’ve listened to this song by Alison many times and I’m always amazed at this young lady’s perfect ( to my ears) voice. I don’t think I have ever heard a bad note sung by her. Jerry Douglas, dobro maestro supreme. Just a wonderful collection of musicians and singers. I think James Taylor definitely would approve of this rendition.
I've been listening to allison since she was around 16 yrs old. This girl has the most beautiful voice i've ever heard. Her talent is amazing. She was a little babyfat kid when i first started listening to her, she sure has turned out to be a beautiful woman. I can listen to her all day, and all night. And you are right, Brilliant, says it all.
Alison's performance is wonderful: such a perfect voice with sweetness and feelings. More than this, she 's one of the most feminine and classy singer in the US !
my good old country pal buddy looked over at me the other day when we were listening to the new paper airplanes album and said "i cant imagine the angels sound much better". i agree!
This is beautiful with Ms. Krauss!! James Taylor is from the beautiful home of the Univ. of North Carolina "Tar Heels" Chapel Hill, N.C.! He wrote this song in honor of the state of North Carolina, not our "sister" state of South Carolina---PERIOD!!! I'm from the wonderful Charlotte and Gastonia areas of N.C., U.S.A.!!!
I don't know if she ever looked more beautiful... She's positively radiant!
Every video I've seen with Alison, at the beginning of each song, she always step back, and let the musician in front have the spotlight. After the intro, she step forward. What class she has.
Purely and simply because Allison is a musician as well.
Hear, hear.
Alison grew up with this song, like the rest of who were kids in the 70s. faved this
Alison is the absolute greatest. It sounds like three people singing at the same time. She is an angel.
There are 3 people..Lol. But I agree, she is the best. :)
from Jose'....The Kid From L. A.............Alison is a national treasure. She is a perfect gemstone set in platinum..........have always loved her and always will..........
If I live a virtuous life and find myself ushered through the pearly gates, I may not now be able to imagine the gorgeous sights that I'll see, but I know it I will hear Allison's voice there, and not tire of it too eternity.
such a soothing sound of her voice, calm the most troubled times
If you've hear Alison Krauss, you've hear an angel sing.

Brought tears to my eyes... memories of times gone by with a loved one who is no longer in this realm. Magical!!
Wow wow wow! A true national treasure and a voice out of this world
Her voice is like angel, any thing she does is magic
really the voice of an angel... i love you allison..
world is so much lucky having someone like you.
Magnificent interpretation of a classic. Thank you, Alison and Jerry!

I SEE THAT ANGELS DO EXIST JUST SUCH A PEACEFUL AND CRYSTAL CLEAR VOICE

Alison... angelic.. I watched the concert for JT last night. this and Bruce Springsteens version of "The Miller" was sublime..
Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful song.

This song suits Alison Krauss's soft beautiful vocal style so well. She has such a soothing quality in her voice.
Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel!
When Alison sings, the Angels stop to listen and weep.

Alison does much justice to this James Taylor song!

Maybe the only thing more lovely than Alison is her voice..what an amazing combination...beauty and her angelic voice.
kaysandesses said it all. What a talent I could hear her sing all day and night.
I believe James Taylor wrote this song not knowing one day the most beautiful angelic voice in the world would be singing it. Alison is singing this how it was meant to be. Just absolutely breathtaking!!!

Saw her at red rocks in Colorado and thought for sure I was in heaven!
I always think of Heaven when I hear this. My mother did too! It was her favorite duo that my brother & I did. She passed away in 2002 & we haven't sang it together since.
First heard Alison's beautiful voice on Whispering Bob Harris' Radio 2 Country show, and now cannot hear enough.
loved her voice! perfect for the song!
Alison Krauss is outstanding! What a great voice....she and Martina McBride have the two finest voices in country music, in my humble opinion!
her voice is a national treasure
I love this woman voice.
With Love from Iran

I kick myself for not having listened to Alison all these years. I thought I'd heard some pretty expressive Country women's voices - then this and "When You Say Nothing At All"
What a beautiful version of a beautiful song, she never tries to own the song but lets it carry her. Great accompianment also.
Absolutely amazing! Purest voice I´ve ever heard!
My God, I love her voice, I love her eyes and I love her smile!!!
Alison, you are the BEST!!!!
Absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Perfection!
I just love her voice. She has the voice of an angel. I can't listen to this song enough the way she sings it.

Alison takes this song to a whole new level, and demonstrates yet again why she is the most awarded female artist in Grammy history.

I would never have thought of doing this slowly. It adds a sweetness and something else undefinable to the song.
I have always loved her.

Now she owns it.
One of my favorite Allison Krauss tunes.
I’ve listened to this song by Alison many times and I’m always amazed at this young lady’s perfect ( to my ears) voice. I don’t think I have ever heard a bad note sung by her. I liked when she sang Blue Grass and now. She has the voice of an angel to me, and I have loved James Taylor , I still have albums of his!
She brings a gentleness and tenderness to this song. A James Taylor original which I love, but Alison gave it a sweetness in her pure, angelic voice.
