- The arms race just got a significant boost. Russia recently announced the completion of trials for a new variant of its T-14 Armata tank, equipped with a monstrous 152mm cannon. This development marks a substantial leap in firepower compared to the standard 125mm gun and could potentially reshape the balance of power on the battlefield.
The T-14 Armata program has been a closely watched project since its inception. This next-generation tank boasts a crewless turret and advanced automation systems, already exceeding the capabilities of most modern tanks.
Military analysts have long discussed the possibility of a variant with a larger caliber gun, and now those discussions are turning into reality. The addition of this immensely powerful gun elevates the T-14 Armata to a whole new level, potentially granting it the ability to pierce through even the most heavily fortified enemy positions with devastating effect.
Now, with trials successfully concluded, the world waits with bated breath to see when and how this super-tank might be integrated into the Russian military.
There's no doubt that the latest T-14 Armata tank variant, boasting a formidable 152mm cannon, packs a much bigger punch than its predecessor. However, official Russian sources claim the upgrade goes deeper than just firepower.

152mm cannon is an massively powerful thing. a 152mm apfsds shell probably can penetrate any mbt on the current battlefield but, the biggest problem of the current warfare is not tanks with stronger armor. its drones they need to make counter-drone systems instead of a bigger cannon.
It has a hard-kill APS. No reason why APS can't be tuned to kill drones.
@@Max_Da_G aps systems have a speed limit sorta thing for example most of the hardkill aps systems don't shoot at things slower than 150m/s(most of the tank rounds are faster than this speed)
Based upon images of the 2A83‘s 152mm APFSDS shell, it’s unlikely that it would be a revolutionary thing as opposed to the Rh-130 or the ASCALON, as it’s penetrator is only about the same length as the LKE-II penetrator of the DM53, DM63 and DM73. There’s an upper limit to muzzle velocity, and the Rh-120 L/55A1 with DM73 already comes pretty close.
@@torides. Correct, they do have speed selection, however THAT is in radar software, not hardware. Drone can be recognized by its behaviour as a target. For example FPV drone isn't slow either, and when it's attacking a target it reaches some decent speeds.
Tank rounds? Indeed. Muzzle velocity of a tank round is 1500-1700m/s. Afganit APS is stated to target incoming tank rounds to destabilize/degrade them.
@@RichelieuUnlimited Nothing in RH130 or ASCALON is revolutionary either. Fires a projectile. Nothing new. Muzzle velocity is one thing, while the projectile mass is wholly another. Also who told you the length of the 2A83 APFSDS projectiles? Or their construction, material, mass?
Forget the cannon, they need an ANTI-DRONE variant, with full ECM jamming, drone countermeasures and serialized "cope cages" for modern warfare. All I see is another moving target, doesn't matter how big the main cannon is when a $5,000 drone wipes it out.
Il n'y a pas un char indestructible. Mais pas pour autant qu'il ne faille pas reconnaitre la puissance d'un char ou d'ingénierie.
I am pretty sure they are aware of it? But I would not say that one cheap drone is enough to destroy it, it also has next generation armor. But anti drone systems including radar is a must. It has a machine gun, but is it anti drone as well idk.

@@macakucizmama831 It already has a hard-kill Afganit APS. I don't see a possibility that it's NOT tuned for drone interception.
Considering 152mm is now the most widely produced round in the Russian inventory now it only makes sense to push forward with this idea. It would definitely streamline ammo production for both tanks and artillery.
The 152mm smoothbore cannon rounds are not interchangable with the 152mm artillery rounds. Some manufacturing steps might be shared though and that can help with production indeed

The T-14 Armata has better defence from drones. Also new era armour for all Russian tanks successfully defend the tanks from drones.
I imagine that's a major factor in not deploying it since even with and active protection system there is a good chance it doesn't have enough charges to properly protect against drone attacks. Add the part where mobility kills in the conflict are often worse then having your turret knocked out of action, and I think its safe to say the T-14 will not be deployed to the front without major changes to both the tank and the stage of the conflict.

Даже просто железная болванка весом 40кг просто снесет башню.
Дёшево и просто.
I’ll tell you a secret: in the war with Nazi Germany, the Soviet army massively used 152 mm self-propelled artillery guns, which were not much different from tanks, and the crew did not suffer in any way due to the use of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and other compensators, as well as ventilation of powder gases . Only the Germans suffered). Modern technologies are much more efficient
The tank is an absolute unit 👍
There‘s an upper limit to potential muzzle velocity with conventional guns (which Russia supposedly already exceeded with its 2A82 design). There’s also an optimal length-diameter ratio for APFSDS. The only way to improve upon existing designs, assuming you’re already at the optimal shape and muzzle velocity, is a longer shell. So unless the 2A83 boasts a larger penetrator at the same velocity, there isn’t any benefit in terms of armor penetration capacity to the larger caliber.
That's the calibre of large artillery guns.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about that time Germany prodded the Bear through the fence.
Krasnopol guided and thermobaric shells is WILD for a tank.
Thats the problem I've concluded with western tanks severe lack of versatile ammo types. Mostly apfsds and canister shot with the rare heat and mpat shells. This makes them less suited to fire support missions and more like glorified tank busters except for one problem the t series refleks rocket guided shells out range the best apfsds rounds the west has
The US is replacing most of its shells with the AMP round, which is much more versatile, and Russia has a comparable shell for the 125mm. Nobody really carries canister anymore. I am afraid your statement is rather dated.
@@tackytrooper Ukrainians made this complaint themselves and I called it before they even sent them. AMP rounds would be an improvement but it’s still useful to stock dedicated HE for laying down indirect fire support as we saw actually happen during the battle of Krasnohorivka foothold where 113th DPR unit was able to transport troops in the turtle cage tanks then rtb and lay down fire support in their old t64s and 72s
You can make fun of them for using old tanks all you want but at the end of the day it worked and Ukr groups driving western armor like 47th mechanized couldn’t do it if they wanted because they lack variety in munitions
There’s a video of Ukr soldiers complaining about this I think it was reported by telegraph
@@off6848 True, although I think doctrine is maybe the bigger problem there than ammunition necessarily - the US expected the Ukrainians to be mostly using the Abrams against tanks, and thus gave them mostly anti-armor munitions. This showed a profound lack of understanding in western leadership of the real nature of combat there.
Soviet tanks were first and foremost developed for infantry support and western tanks were largely influenced by soviet military doctrine in the 50-60s, that being a breakneck tank charge through the whole Europe. So NATO, having an advantage in nuclear warhead, had concluded all they need is to just stop soviet tank blitzkrieg and nuke the rest. That's why our tanks to this day prioritize simplicity of design and reliability (T-55, for example, had to stay combat ready while stranded amidst nuclear wasteland for prolonged time), where's western tanks are glorified self-propelled anti-tank guns.

BIGGER CANNONS ✔️✔️✔️ JAAA
France recently released it's Leclerc Evolution with a 140mm gun even more powerfull that the 130mm of Rheinmetal for the KF 51 it's no surprise that russia must answer to that
They've been planning on using 152mm guns on their MBTs since the USSR. There's a prototype called object 292, a T-80U hull with the 152mm LP-83 smoothbore gun and a semi auto-loader. It had a very strong Sabot round that could pretty much pen any MBT at the time, or today. The prototype did really well during testing but it never got implemented as the USSR collapsed and funding was scarce.
It was also massively heavy.
There are fundamental material limitations and tradeoffs at play. A larger gun can remain light by being low pressure and thus low velocity. Velocity can be increased without increasing pressure by using a longer barrel, making it heavier. Along with other drawbacks such as increased sag and vibration.
The T-14 was effectively canceled in 2018 as none of the claimed features were successfully developed and no export customers would pay in advance for science fiction. The gun was the only aspect that remained in development, and it remained significantly heavier than the design specifications.
Wow - unreal!
the 125mm 2A82-1M that the T-14s currently use are still very powerful guns , its apfsds shells vacum1 and vacum2 reportedly had a penetration of 900mm and 1000mm of rha equivalent penetration at 2km which was the most powerful apfsds in the world until the KF-51 made its debut. The 2A82-1M could have also fired smart munitions for dealing with low flying aircraft, infantry, fortifications , trenches similar to how what the US is currently testing, the XM1147 Advanced Multi-purpose , for their M1A2s and Abram X. 152mm cannon and shells would require more propellant to propell the bigger, heavier shells meaning a more dangerous amount of explosive substance stored within the tank

Well considering it's never been seen in combat it's irrelevant.
It's greatest enemy is an aerial suicide drone that is 10 to 20k Dollar....as well as all MBT in the battlefield as proven in the ongoing war in Ukraine. That is the main reason why Russia is not sending this unit in the battleground in Ukraine.
I thought that the reason the Russians went with the T-90 M instead of the T-14 was that they wanted to change the prototype before putting it into production. Modern weapons make it very difficult for tanks to operate on the battlefield or even reach it. They need to have effective defenses against missiles and drones. Russia had put 152mm guns on prototype tanks before. It may be making a comeback because it and launch longer range missiles and shells at enemy tanks and other targets.
the main feature - to be invisible on the battle field remains without changes😎🤔
The upgrade to 152mm doesn't offer as much when it comes to penetration, because that is limited by the amount of energy you can put into the shell and same energy in a smaller shell is more penetration. This gun is probably going to shoot APFDS shells that are not much more powerful than the 125mm ones, although they probably going to be very powerful anyway. Tanks in the current conflict work as assault guns, and having a HE shell, cluster munition shell or thermobaric shell that is twice as heavy as the one in 125mm is very valuable when harassing enemy entrenched positions - which is what tanks seem to be doing - a single tank drives up to get line of sight on enemy positions, like a forest line or village, fires a shell, moves, fires a shell, moves, repeat a few more times, then drops smoke and leaves.
With the barrel lifespan of 280 shots this tank is not going to be used as mobile artillery, unless for precision fire with a Krasnopol shell. Although, they probably have also designed the barrel to be easy to exchange and field repair units will have decent supply of spare barrels they can replace the used ones with, without the need of sending the tank back to factory.
The Special Military Operation has proven that Tank to Tank battles are rare now and focusing on TankVTank capabilities is irrelevant. It looks like they are converting the purpose of T14 to being a mobile indirect fire solution that can also act as direct fire if needed (where'as artillery can only do indirect).
A very good weapon ! The on going war is a perfect training and allow to adapt capacities!
They have to get it running first .
You don't need a better gun, you need better all around armor to protect against ATGM and Suicide Drones.

Deadly weapon
So they're using the object 292 knowledge. It was about time they changed calibers. Occidental countries might push the 130/140mm cannons a bit more.
Russia has not been able to get to grips with the problems of the T14 Armata for almost 10 years, so what good is a bigger gun?
Lets see if it is even functional
It will need a better ballistic computer first. As well as a better engine.
Main Armament: 152 mm cannon
Ammo capacity: 20
A assault tank... They try it one soviet times, now their willing to do it again. That T14 is not for a tank v tank, is more like a tank to destroy strongholds and trenches
How many shells can it carry?
Without full drone protection , it's weak.
But not mass produced yet. So even with a 300 mm gun : will it be mass produced one day? Or not?
people dont know what that means, it will be able to find targets with ai guided drone circling over it and fire krasnopol arti ammo at the target with a lot more range. its actualy another innovation by the russians, btw germany already copyed the t14 ^^
LMAo you are not going to have any T-14s beyond the few you have and no one would copy it because it sucks .. Lies and BS wont win a war
Copied what?
Russia copied the US from the 70's prototype you mean?
@@alexnderrrthewoke4479 German are making new leopard with automated turret instead of manned one .
@@kampfer91 i know they copying russia now
Very dramatic! Im not holding my breath for this…
Yeah, another tank that will never see the battlefield. T-90 is the max Russia can produce in any amounts that can be sent to the front.
@@Hamzat22 you dont know mutch about russian military Industrie. It has more capacity than all nato countrys together
@@Hamzat22you guys said the same about t-80, t-90, t-90m but here they are. You will see armata too. Cope
@@QuicksilverVMwell said 💯
@@QuicksilverVM so after 10 years where is the Armata again? Where is the Terminator? In what numbers?
I think tanks are a waste of money and time. a modernized BMP 3, with cage armor and better thermal vision for commander and drone integration would be better suited for any war. Having both a 100mm smoothbore gun and a 30mm autocannon it can deal with anything, from fortifications with 100mm HE rounds to long distance tanks with atgm shot through the 100mm cannon and infatry and other vehicles with the 30mm autocannon. Can also transport troops. A bmp-3 that can survive artillery sharpnel and fpv drones would do much more work on the battlefield than any tank. There is no point in having 10 million mm RHA armor on the front if a simple fpv drone can destroy your engine or track or penetrate your turret armor from above.
A great tank, shame about fpv drones though! 😕
What is a great tank? Not the t-14 it is so bad they never even thought about building a production line for it.. IE russia can't build them unless it wants to build a few more by hand lolol

Sure.😀😀😀
Let the drones handle it.
When I started to play StarCraft I thought I could blitz with the siege tank than I realize those tank are played like armored artillery not assault tank...
Im sure the tank will get an upgrade to maybe a 280 mm caliber soon.
I am sure it is a great gadget, but how does it compare with 500 ruble suicide drone?
Russia using zelensky to market they're arms sales 😂
Вполне возможно
@@user-ty2pk9om8c It does both there tanks profrom bad same with the air defence but there ligth bombers like SU 34 and MI28 and KA52 is doing really well

Is this the starcraft siege tank?
And the 152mm rounds will help it to fly higher into space 😂😂😂
120 and 125mm are still powerful guns. No need of heavy 130, 140 or 152mm on tanks.
Even though they don't need.
