    So…. Investors who don’t *actually* play the game are mad because they can’t flip boxes/cards straight out of the gate for hundreds of dollars of profit? They’re mad because they can no longer abuse it? This is the world we live in. People are angry because they can no longer abuse something.
    As an outsider to FaB, all of this sounds like positive change for the game to me. White border cards in history reprint packs that don’t look as good, but give you cheap access to the cards you need? I wish Dragon Ball Super and Yugioh did that… The multiplayer thing sounds awesome.

    • @kwokziyi4937
      @kwokziyi4937 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yugioh (TCG) does do that through their annual tin boxes (not the rarity drop but the increase in supply deflates prices) and eventual common reprints in structure decks. The OCG handles it way better because the demographic is different and as a general rule, Japanese companies keep the best stuff for themselves. :P

    if they can pull off the PvE thing, that could really open the door for a lot of cool shit. bringing on traditional paper RPG players, and bringing traditional TCG players into that realm, and potentially even further, as well as offering multiple experiences for the new player, seems like an all around win, even if it means nuking the first edition for better longevity and an eventual separation of tiers once the full gameplay meta is established. people just want 10-year-plan results out of 3 years way too often.

    It's great how one of Rudy's biggest complaints is how new Magic players do not have equity in their collections because they keep getting reprinted and crashing the value. But James's answer of reprinting but making it look WORSE will ensure the players who buy early will have truly rare and sought after cards. It's a really interesting concept. I think FaB will roar back to life with their next product cycle of 3. It's a great time to buy cold foils and sealed first ed for any long-term believer.

    • @justinball9293
      @justinball9293 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s a bullshit concept. Magic did it with white border core sets. Some of those core set cards are worth more than the original printing. If this is as tightly printed as they’re claiming, they could be more rare than rainbow foil staples, AND being the only printing in this style…..”ugly” or not that screams collectibility of the product. Odds are it will not have the intended consequences since EVERY store can order it. OR, it will not be a tight print run and we really will have chronicles 2.0

      This will tell the tcg world if a purely based players game can support a tcg on their own. The emphasis will be on the players to buy enough to keep the company afloat. This means lgs and the secondary market must see enough sales that allow them to buy and keep product stocked.
      As of now, there is no known metric to tell if so. So lets see if the players can keep the game afloat on their own. Im neither a player or investor btw.

    • @Bahamut_Mega
      @Bahamut_Mega 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EpicTubeHD it will be very similar to games like Wiess Schwarz. Most people buy Wiess to build decks and play the game. But a good number of people collect the signed cards ( in 1 - 4 boxes ) and invest in sealed product.
      The fact that they are keeping cold foils and making them even more chace will keep some of the collectors and investors around.

      FAB said they wanted to put more cards in the hands of players- but what they have done in getting rid of 1 edition doesn’t make sense as a step to achieve larger production.
      The brilliance of Flesh and Blood’s 1st edition and unlimited edition was that both collectors and people who only wanted to play the game had releases specifically catered to themselves. Essentially they have abandon collectors to lump the the equivalent of mtg’s collector boosters into being just regular boosters-

    • @Koehler99
      @Koehler99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This 100%. There wouldn't need to be a total freakout about the game and its survivability going forward if you believed in its gameplay and how fun it'd be to engage with. It needs to be a game that's involved and has an active playerbase to be successful, otherwise it dies off when something like this happens. You're essentially saying you don't believe in the game if you're not trusting its survivability going forward. I'm not a FAB player or investor myself, either.

    • @krevin543
      @krevin543 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justinlau1337 yes and you shouldn’t have to spend thousands. I’m not sure what relation what you are saying has to my point however. My point is you don’t need to destroy first edition to increase unlimited’s print run and get everyone the cards they want, while still giving collectors their own product. This is actually going to have the opposite effect- it will be harder to get cards and especially singles now that the value for the cards has plummeted and LGS’s are dropping FAB because their profit margins on the boosters has been burned away.
      FAB had an excellent system- why they are tearing it down for no apparent reason baffles me. Just print more unlimited and keep first edition.

Here we have a company that continues to evolve and try to do the right thing for the player, and still care about the chase and collectors if they aren't looking to just flip cards on the spots. With this world wide release I was ready and wanted to make positions in 1st Ed so I bought from wherever I could. When the distribution failed to actually sell the product it betrayed LSS, James , LGS, content creators, investors, collectors and the FUCKING players. No one walked away happy and that’s a shame because I love Monarch as it is an amazing set. So I opened my boxes of CRU/MON/TOA unlimited when I say the prices crash to $65/box like 6months ago. 1 case of each. I did get 2 fabled and 6 Legendary from among them. But I cracked to make decks with the cards as its a fun change-up from Mtg.
    I do still have 5 cases of WTR/ARC unlimited and will probably snag a case of CRU unlimited to sit on. The risk of $75/box isn't bad, I've spent $300 in gas boating in a day (pre-2020 gas prices). The upside is that if it succeeds with FAB 2.0 then win, as they'll stay or rise in price. If not, well for $75 I got a box of an enjoyable game to still use for a draft night w/ friends.

    • @djdrack4681
      @djdrack4681 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I look at TCGs and say that when you look at the MTG/Pokemon and others that succeed long term:
      The value of a box is partially driven by that 'dude! its a new set, we gotta try this, it looks awesome'; the other 1/2 is the fact that either the uncommons are super useful but not broken (mechanics) and the rare/mythics have a good number that are powerful and (that'd be great to have in the deck) which helps keep that initial EV for the box up. Afterwards if the cards aren't reprinted to oblivion, then the box value is going to multiple compared to expected EV of the cards.
      AT the same time you HAVE TO control power creep. MTG hasn't and that is arguably the issue since like Hours: not as much the multiple variants (which is bad tho). You have to try avoiding the current MtG trend of 1/3 of your rare/mythics get banned before rotating out because of broken/OP abilities and unchecked power creep.

    Very good video. Heavily interested in the longevity of FaB so watched it all. I had a different take on 2.0, and think the majority of the FaB community did too. I actually think everything discussed in that article is good. Sure looking back to a Monarch print run of 125k you might think mistakes were made, but realistically the game was growing exponentially even despite a pandemic so I'm sure they thought, "let's make sure we print enough to meet demand." I think having too little product might have done worse for the game in general than by having too much, as evidenced by the rise in box prices AFTER the print run was detailed. Kudos to LSS for being such a transparent company.

I mean did they just now realize the print runs are being so much larger or that 1st edition boxes were going away (conveniently after they distributed the final ‘special’ 1st Ed set like you mentioned)? They have lost my trust as a collector, but I get that if I was a player and actually liked the game then I would go out of my way to see the glass as half full here and try to not think the company is shady.

    • @benjaminfranklin5996

      @@zacharyzuniga1599 I have to disagree with you. I don't think the utterly absurd growth of the game between CoW and Monarch could've been predicted by the company, especially when predictions on everything were far lower than normal due to the last 2 years of political corruption and nonsense. It seems they reacted simply to meet the ridiculous demand for the game. As for Tales of Aria and Everfest, sure, they could've announced things a bit sooner, but the decisions made in FaB 2.0 would've taken the company at least a year to work out and decide on and I think pre-emptively announcing stuff without having a clear path forward and solution to the problem would've been a worse decision.

    In my LGS, Bega, Australia, people play a lot of Flesh and Blood. It has taken the position of MTG standard, My little brain and wallet could not keep up with Standard, to many new cards and quick rotation. The average player at my LGS, has a job and other responsibilitys, the gaming is a hobby and social experience. Flesh and Blood has less new cards and reprinting old ones people know at a reduced price is good for kids with limited finances, and older brains running short of RAM. Whales still get there super rare shinny cards but get to play against players with competetive decks, they need somewere to flex. Parents like Mysealf who take their kids to in-store events, want a play experience that is affordable and the kids don't get slaughtered by pay to win customers. I am inspired by this vid Rudy It encourages me to want to keep playing Flesh and Blood, the model might make it a fun long term play experience with a digestible level of new cards and cheap old cards. And the multiplayer future sounds fun.

    Well, i heard about this video from some mutual friends. I think what LSS is doing is great with Flesh and Blood 2.0. It's a shame that the distribution network didn't perform very honestly, and also a shame that some of the larger merchants were playing investor. I was surprised at some of the stock that was available and bought some myself to average my basis out. I have a 225 case position now of Monarch with a cost basis of 690 on average. I will continue to buy the first editions's moving forward but with more of an eye for a discounted box/cases. I will be wary about pre releases and pre orders... to me that is the smart thing to do, to minimize the basis. I will then observe the new behavior on this new set and pivot my behavior accordingly. I still maintain a monster position, and have sold 0. Someday maybe ill submit a video to Rudy showing him the horde :). I'm loving the vision of James White, it aligns with my own ethos. It is still far from livable (currently around 500 a month), but it shows the market is there. I did MTG content for over a year and was only losing money, I did FAB for over a year, I'm making money. On top of that, I keep an eye on the game's growth and in the past 3 months we've seen an increase of around 10% in competitive players, so if that trend continues, we might end up with around 60k players in no time.
