ASMR ~ Budgeting / Money Management / Saving $$

  • Several people asked me to do a "money management / budgeting" video, so here we have it! I'll talk for just over an hour about several tips and tricks to help save money and pay down your debt. I'm no financial expert, and this isn't intended as any sort of "save your life" advice. Most of these are just things I've used in my own life, or they're things that other people that I know have used.

You may have had not much money when you were younger but you have grown up to be a very beautiful woman with an beautiful heart with two amazing boys so it shows that having money is not everything the likelihood of us ever meeting is very low be after watching your videos for over a year I just had to say something

I feel like your channel has now become a mix of ASMR and then random vlogs and then just life advice, and I think it’s honestly amazing to see someone putting out videos that they want to produce. It’s very refreshing, although this video may not be the most relaxing it definitely does help with knowing how to handle money

    • @SouthernASMRSounds

It changes all the time. I really just do whatever I feel like doing on any given day. There's no schedule, and there are no rules. I answer to no one. I make stuff for everybody. This channel is like the super mega all-you-can-eat buffet of the ASMR world. We're quickly approaching 1,100 videos on my channel! :)

Ever since I got a job when I was 17, I've paid for all of my own things. I bought my own car completely by myself, I've had 3 cars and I've paid for each of them by myself. I pay my own insurance, my own cell phone bill, etc. My mom stopped paying for my things as soon as I got my job and it really helped teach me to be responsible. Now, 7 years later, I have my own apartment and I pay for everything by myself and it's so liberating to be able to support myself. And I don't think I would be able to do that if my mom hadn't taught me early on how to responsibly handle my money

Congrats on being debt free! We are working on becoming debt free. We follow Dave Ramsey's plan but these are all great tips. Great video Mary!

    • @SouthernASMRSounds
      @SouthernASMRSounds  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I agree with Dave on pretty much everything. He's awesome! Like him, I won't be buying a new car. I'm going to buy a good used one and let somebody else take the hit of depreciation on a new one. Normally, I buy cars and drive them until it becomes more expensive to keep them running than to make payments on another car. I've had four cars in my entire adult life. It would've only been three, but one was totaled in 2011 (totally the other guy's fault, BTW) and I then bought another used car to replace it. I do plan on buying another car soon because I want something a little bit bigger and with more legroom in the back. My boys are getting SOOO tall and long-legged that it's cramped back there. So I'll be buying a good used car (2-3 years old) and selling my current car outright (NO trade-in - they never give you anything for that!), and taking whatever I make on my current car and putting it toward whatever I buy.

Tyler Denton It's not that the bill was that big. I just didn't have any spare money for a long time. I worked with the hospital billing department and made very small payments. It took two years because I couldn't afford to pay much. My insurance covered almost all of the expense.

I love Aldi and Lidl in that they make grocery shopping simple and inexpensive. As for coffee, I no longer enjoy the big chain coffee shop. In the nursing school I attend, we have faculty members who makes coffee throughout the day for anyone to have. The coffee is so-so, but since it is free it is good. Great video!

    • @SouthernASMRSounds

Taylor P I've heard the same thing about Lidl. I still want to check it out, but from what I've heard, they're not really any better than Aldi.

    • @narwhalsrock1220
      @narwhalsrock1220 6 ปีที่แล้ว

SouthernASMR Sounds there are some prices that are cheaper than Aldi but for the most part the prices are either equal or more expansive. The best way I could describe the layout of Lidl is that it’s like a Sam’s Club. So they definitely carry a bit more than Aldi but I think I’ve gotten so used to the shopping experience at Aldi that I just was not prepared!

This was wonderful! You should be teaching those financial lessons and skills at middle schools and high schools. Life skills like these aren't really taught at school anymore and many parents don't have them either. I wish there was Goodwill here in Germany. We have very few thrift stores and their use is often limited to welfare recipients. Through a work project I visited many US Goodwill stores and I have to say that the quality varies a lot. There were many stores that looked like a JC Penneys, very orderly with clothes sorted by type, size and color, and only a few that looked like a sad dump.

Mary ! Tnx 4 sharing it with us! Everything you told os great because it shows that you did your own effort to build your life and your life experience was and still being the structure that made you a visible great and strong person !
With difficulties we learn and we build our own way to live, the way we will behave through life!
My parents work lot to gave us an essential and great life ! Nothing came for free to all of us, my parents started their lives with too much difficulty but always working, night, day, holidays, always working to make us persons with dignity and prepared for life!
My parents are my heroes ! I learned lot with them and great part what I conquered is am really thankful and grateful to both !
I can see that you are a strong woman because you faced difficulties but you never gave up, never came easy to you and everything you conquered were resulting from your own efforts !
Congrats ! You are really an inspiration!!! Brave woman ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻You are an example to be followed !

My wedding was under $5000 for the entire thing. I made the decorations and invitations, family prepped the food. Most of the money was on alcohol and the cake and i spulrged on the dress. (Alterations took up the most because im short and they charged by the inch)
The 5000 was spent over a year and a half and only came from what we saved for the wedding, never the savings never the credit card. It was a beautiful day and i walked away without owing a dime. Yes it could have been done alot cheaper but we budget for everything, and $5000 didn't seem so harsh in comparison to what some of my friends paid. We also got videos and amazing pictures.
    24,000 on a wedding...I'd die.
    Great video!!!

This is so applicable for me right now. My husband and I are re-learning to budget. I feel terrible about money we have wasted on so many wants. I'm trying to stay positive. Looking at our money, writing it down, learning, and changing our ways is all in the positive. We have 2/3 credit cards paid off now. Once that ones done, we get to work on our line of credit- wedding (that's the one where I really want to break down and cry!).

My current bank rounds up all of my debit and credit purchases to the dollar and puts it into my savings. I started budgeting when I left home at 17 as well and stick to it like remora fish on a shark so I usually know how much I have in savings after paychecks come in. It is so nice to check my savings and see a little extra in there from a couple cents here and there (it seriously does build up fast!!) 🤑

I'm currently in debt working to pay off my credit card and still don't have great budgeting practices, but I have one philosophy I've been living by. If I see something I want, I won't buy it right away. I'll wait a week, two weeks, a month, and if I still want it, I know it's something I will use and get my money's worth from. Like I said, I don't have great budgeting practices, but that's something that's really worked for me.

I agree completely with the healthcare advice and dental! It's so cheap to get preventative lab work and a check up! I just had mine today and I truly believe in keeping up on healthcare! Yes, yes, yes!

Victoria A Especially if you have insurance that covers most (if not all) of the cost of preventative care. Mine covers annual physicals, dental cleanings twice a year, eye exams, etc. It'd be crazy not to take advantage of that, and catch any problems that might arise before they have time to get out of hand.

Something that helped us was getting an instapot. Cuz we would get takeout often when at the end of a busy day we wouldnt have enough time, energy, food defrosted, or the wherewithall to do a crock pot in the morning. We eat way less takeout now with the pressure cooker

One thing I am happy for. No debt. Ever. I have no credit cards, no student loans and, no car. I pay rent, electric, cable and $45.00 a month for my phone.

Great tips! I have managed to pay off every student loan (except one) and all of my credit cards. All of it was done while working a low paying job.
Something I find helpful is looking at your phone plan and seeing if it would be cheaper to do a pay-as-you-go deal. I do that through Verizon and only pay $45 a month for unlimited everything and 3 gb of data. Before that, I was paying $85!
I also use the website credit karma to help me keep track of my spending.

Some grocery store pharmacies offer free antibiotics too. Example: Publix… common antibiotics are free. Over the counter a lot of insurance companies offer a monthly allowance and you can order OTC drugs through your insurance.

Another big one is entertainment. Going to the movies can cost 30/40 dollars for a couple..when you can buy a movie for 5/10 dollars at the store and have popcorn for cents. Or rent a movie for a dollar.
Hiking is free, beautiful and you get your exercise in.
When we have to cut back entertainment that costs is the first thing to go.

If you’re in Greensboro, I believe there’s a Lidl in Winston, but there’s also one in Danville, VA! I’m in Reidsville, so I think Winston Salem might be closer for you, but we go to Aldi and Lidl in Danville and they’re both great!!
