Incredible video. My 15yr old daughter and I where able to fix our LG washer. The spider was rotted and broken, since we had dismantled the whole thing we also replaced the bearing which I ordered just in case and we sure did need it and got replaced. Some of the debris from the spider that had come loose had flushed out to the pump area. Good thing it has like a lil basket trap. I was determined to take the challenge and put in the time and effort. Feel the same as you do, we work so hard for what we purchase and I just didn't want to buy another washer or get rid of the one I've had for 13 yrs, I felt it still had lots of life left since we have taken good care of it. I had to get a few tools and ordered the spider and the bearing thru Amazon which was perfect parts. I watched many videos and narrowed it down to this one. Loved the step by step and the explanation as the disassembling took place. I took us 17hrs to get the job done & $160 for parts and a tool. We took our time did not rush and the end result is amazing the washer just hummms so smoothly like brand new. No issues at all not leaks no missing parts or extra parts all the bolts and screws where placed back where they belonged. Ran like 5 loads the next day and just amazing, my daughter and I are so proud of ourselves for fixing the washer. Thank you for such an awesome video which saved us money. Highly recommend this video.
Victoria… so proud of you and your daughter!! I’m a single mama and my washer needs this. I’m just scared I can’t do it but you’ve given me hope! How did you know exactly what parts to order? Did you need your washer model number? What tool did you buy?
Just watching you video and you solve my problem, I am amazed with how you handle the problem. Now I know what is wrong with my machine and will start to disassemble it tomorrow. Thank you so much you are the best 💪💪
WOW!!! What a great lesson. My LG is just over 15 years old and it started smoking and making a really loud sound. Oddly enough i tried it the next day and it worked fine. BUT, that was it. the next time more noise and smoke. Got my tools out awent to work. I replaced the spider arm. I also replaced the bearings and tub gasket while i was in there. I purchased a bearing installation tool as well. Total with parts and the tool was $225. I have some mechanical aptitude, but all this was way out of my comfort zone. i ran into a couple small problems but managed to get the machine up and running. I couldn't have done it without this video. The machine has been installed in my garage (another $62 for hoses and fittings) and the wife has her new one coming :) I call it a win win. Thanks again for this AWESOME video!!
Planned obsolescence. I bought an LG and have replaced the spider bracket twice about every 6-7 years. For the amount a repairman needs to charge you have to just not bother and replace the unit. The last time I did the repair, took about 4 hours. TH-cam videos like this one helped a lot. Just keep your parts organized.
This is incredible. Our washer is banging but not smoking, but we would not even begin to attempt something like this. It gives huge appreciation for how complicated these repairs are. Where we live, hiring something to do this would be more expensive than buying a new washer...it was fascinating to watch! Thank you
Great walk through tutorial. Just fixed my washer! I did have a question, as I put the outer drum back together the 2 half’s didn’t come together all the way, snug. I was worried this wound cause leaking. I noticed in your video it was the same way so I left it alone, some areas are snug but some bulge between the boles a little 18:46. No issues so far. Another thing to note, there are some flow restricters in a couple of the holes on the drum. These fell out when moving the drum to the garage. They go in the drain holes on the drum for anyone who finds spare dome-shaped plastic parts on the ground. Also, I opted for new shocks. They were only like $20 on Amazon, worked great, and the washer was never quieter. Thanks again!
You should pack the bearing area with high speed grease. I use Marine grade. The spider support cracks and corrodes two unlike metals with soap acting as a catalyst. The best way to avoid issues mold in boot, excessive corrosion use High Efficiency soap only around 1 ounce. Pods will also work since they are the correct amount that you should be using. If you see suds while doing a wash, you are over soaping the unit. Hi efficiency has a low foam formula, because you don't want extra drag on the direct drive motor. You will burn up the hall sensor. You can also check the sump area for debris, if you see grayish looking gravel, it is corrosion from the spider support assembly. Also use the old bearings to press in the new bearings so you do not damage the face of the bearings.
@JMC WatchDog Do you happen to remember the Name Brand and Type of Marine Grade High Speed Grease? I'm looking on Amazon Prime for some right now but I'd rather purchase exactly what you bought
@@AndrewMadrigal1414I wouldn't add a bunch of grease in there. The bearings have grease in them already. The seal is to keep water out of the bearings. Once that seal is broken, water can come in yes so the grease may hold back the water a bit longer but you are also more likely to have grease coming back into your wash tub and getting on your clothes. Not worth ruining a bunch of clothes to maybe extend the bearing life another month

Hopefully I don't have to this again for ever.

Thank you. I watched your video a couple of times before I tackled this project. I found that the drum spider was cracked on all three legs and the arms were extremely corroded. I chose to buy replacement drum spider and new bearings and seals through Amazon. Received parts in a couple of days. Thank You!!!! I was successful repairing my model (WM3001HRA) because of THIS video!!! 🏆. The 2nd set of bearings were more than stubborn and i needed the back of an axe and strong piece of wood (metal dowl broke, along with a hammer and almost my wrist…). I really appreciate you and this video!!
ordered bearing kit and decided to dissemble before the parts came. Just like yours, I had a broken spider!! Now I'm just waiting for the parts. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks a ton. I have the same issue with mine, it's apart and cleaned on the porch awaiting a parts order. The bearing and seal is in excellent shape fortunately. It'll need new support stabilizers and a door boot though.
That's impressive Pete. Its no problem taking it apart it would be remembering how it all goes back together that would mess me up. Part time Appliance repair man as well. Multi talented that's for sure. Take Care Pete
Excellent video. The title matched the symptoms of our LG washer. Video made the disassembly and assembly very easy. Problem was the same as many others, the spider was cracked in multiple places. Replaced it, the bearings and door gasket.
I’m so thankful for this video because I was able to follow every step and disassemble my washer to replace what I thought was the bearings because of the noise it was making. After I took everything apart the bearings and spider arm was still in new condition. Turned out it was the RPS sensor. A cheap and quick fix.
excellent video, from Puerto Rico I thank you infinitely, you saved me a fortune besides the fact that the technician did not want to fix my washing machine but thanks to this video I was able to do it myself God bless you
Perfect video. Saved loads of time. The only difference I found was there was an additional screw behind the lower left drain and debris container and also one screw on the inside on the top control panel for a total of three. I disassembled in half hour and about the same for the install.
Thank you, I am so grateful to have seen this video I was able to disassemble and fix the isssue with my washing machine the bearings were horrible and put everything back together I cant believe how quiet my machine is now and running great this has saved me a lot of money I don't have and frustration of wondering if I am doing it right thank you so much
Pete, thank you for doing this video. My wife and kids all pitched in to pull this off. It now works. Disappointed to see the cracks in the spider bracket. Obviously a problem part.
the spider bracket usually deteriorates with age. it also depends what kind of detergent you're using and how often you clean the washer (in my experience anyway)
Thank you for saving me a step years later. I researched my washer smoking, and everything just said bearings needed to be replaced, and most didn't mention the spider except to say "Write it off". Parts are ordered, and this next weekend I've got a project to get done.
Thank you so much for this video, my husband and I followed your video step by step. Our washer was smoking and banging so loud, so I ordered the spindle to be safe! We are so glad we did, our spindle was in worse shape than yours. The only hard part about fixing the washer (if you want to call it hard) was getting the bearing out, other than that a breeze. Your video was detailed, great personality and great visual. Thank you again.
Hey I know your comment is 2 years old so hopefully you’ll still see this but what did you end up using to get the bearings out? That’s the challenge I’m having right now.
We have a LG washing machine (WD-10260NP) since October 2006, that's almost 15 years. There has been absolutely no problem with it, until a couple of months ago, when the element went, because the water pressure was low due to repair in the main supply and no water had come into the machine. The usual protective error mechanism which stops the machine hadn't worked, maybe because the pressure was varying. These machines are very good.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have a similar model with the same symptoms. I ordered a spider arm and ball bearing kit just in case, and wouldn't you know it; my spider arm was shattered like yours. I got everything taken apart, cleaned really well and i'm currently doing a load of laundry with no horrid noises or smoke. Thanks a ton!
I looked up the part number and it was sold on Amazon. I think the parts cost me about $120, but it was 2-3 days of labor. Not fun, but I didn't need to buy a new washing machine.@@DrHorne-bz2yt
Thank you very much for the detailed video. I was able to make all the part replacements and after 7 loads things are still working properly. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this excellent video! I just fixed my washer following your step-by-step tutorial here. Your video was extremely helpful! Great job and thanks so much!
Great work. I thought about performing this exact repair a few years ago and decided to pass. If I would have seen this video, I would have given it a try.
Thank you for putting this out I was able to fix my washer. This is the best video out there had the exact same issue and ordered everything from Amazon thanks again.
AWESOME JOB, BUT YOU MADE IT LOOK SO DAMN EASY TO DO. I'M 70 AND I THINK IT WILL TAKE ME ALL DAY TO DO THIS JOB, IF I HAVE ALL THE PARTS I NEED. THANKS FOR A GRATE HOW TO INFO. GOD BLESS. OLD MAN BRUCE IN SOUTHWEST, UTAH.
Great video Pete. One note, the plug on the stator that was so hard to get off will actually easily unplug from the stator side. Mine popped off while struggling with the end you struggled with. I never could get mine to unplug even after the stator was removed and out of the way.
Great video. I get to attempt this tomorrow morning. I just wish I would have watched the whole video before I ordered parts. Got my fingers crossed that my spindle frame isn't cracked like your is.
Nice! 6 hours in and I’m half way done… the bolts were stripped on the spider and I had to cut them out, found a few more fun things to fix on the way too…
Mine started making noise yesterday but finish the cycle. It ran a TUB CLEAN cycle OK because there was no load. Now it can wash and rinse but hangs on spinning due to imbalance !?!?!? This video clip confirmed the issue and necessary steps to repair. Thanks.
Finally had the guts to fix my machine, never taken one so far to pieces. Once I finally got to the spider it was probably in worse condition than yours. I had to grind it out as the bolts were completely seized. Then of course I needed new bolts as the new spider didn't include them. Anyway it looks like it's done the trick.
Probably not seized. They are installed with locktite. Had to use an air impact hammer to get mine loose. Highly recommend re-installing with locktite.
This was hands down a very informed video!!! It saved me Hundreds $$$ I am sure…. Ordered the parts & installed as per your instructions…. Spot on & for this I thank you, Mikeywirez😎
Did a load of wash tonight and heard the banging but, no smoke. When I spin the tub, I don't hear any klunking sounds. It spins very easily with a soft whirring sound. When I push the top of the drum, it moves back and forth a few inches. I'm guessing that the problem is a broken spider assembly. To complicate matters, my LG is one of those washer/dryer combos. That'll probably make things a bit more fun!
The problem with the cracked spider arm is very common among different brands. They've used different metals, the tub is made out of stainless steel and the spider is made out of zinc. When you have soapy water, it acts as an electrolyte between the two metals and becomes corrosive. They're engineered to last just a few years. Some manufacturers use higher quality materials but the prices are significantly higher (Miele for example). It's pretty disappointing to see how poorly these are made.
We started having the same problems after 12 years. Consumer Reports says anything older than 10 years you should seriously consider just replacing. Debating if I should replace the parts as well.
very detailed, thank you a ton! I have the same washer and the same issue so it looks like i may have to do this. some tips: you're mostly going to spin when it's wet, so putting a lubricant like vaseline on the bearing is kind of a moot point as the detergant will get to it. That being said, I was going to recommend some anti-seize, as that stuff takes some effort to come off and almost needs to be intentionally removed or "all used up" (if that ever happens). For the screws you put loctite on, I would put the loctite on first than the anti-seize near the base. I would also never bang a small bearing like that with a hammer. They're not automotive quality. Using that two-by-four was your nicest "fix" to that. I would've just used the straight and sturdiest piece of wood I have. Also all of those screws are actually torqued, they may go into plastic, but they're very specifically torqued and I don't doubt that you may have a leaking problem in the future because of this. Especially because you mentioned that they're different lengths. Different lengths absolutely means different torque required. I'm sure there are specs for this, if not, there are tools used when uninstalling that allow you to figure out the torque. so what made me write all this? at the end I did an audible yelp when you cut the zip-tie towards the wires. It's suppose to be always away from you, and the wires. Always. Also I don't know how that spring for the seal looks, but it seems like you could've un-did it, fit the whole thing around, then just connected the spring back to the wire. anyway, just my two cents. Once again amazing quality and beautifully detailed. I could never make something so thought out. I hope my tips help you for making videos in the future!
Hello Pete, the video is great. I have been following step by step until I remove the drum from its plastic encasement, but it seems that the spindle is stuck in the bearing. Seems like I will have to use some WD-40 and a rubber mallet to remove it. I will follow on afterwards, but so far it's excellent step by step.
@@dgotwals1 it worked for me. Just needed to hit it with the mallet a couple of times. Finally I only needed to replace the spider because the bearing was perfect.
@@pierrejacomet8098, Thanks for the reply. I ended up hitting it with a sledgehammer and it worked. But half the bolts were seized and it took a lot of work to open everything. The spider was definitely cracked, but I ended up getting a new machine.
Need the right hammer and a long taper punch. I bought a 4 pound metal hammer. Do not use a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer. I spent hours beating those and nothing moved. Metal hammer they came out in 2 mins.
wow....i have the same model and same issue. Thought I could do it myself but removing all the parts...I know I'd have missed something putting it together. Where are you...can you come and fix my machine please! Amazingly detailed video...

Great video for taking it apart but got it back together and the drum is tilted down in the back. Any advice? Tried to run maching which filled with water and stopped. Got a LE coder
Great video, almost done, but have a quick question: The shaft is not protruding out far enough for me, so the bolt for the rotor will not grab. I am ready to take the tub back out to make sure the bearing are completely seated. But first: At 20:58 in your video, the shaft appears to "magically" move back another inch? What did you do there? That's exactly what I need to have happen! Thanks Pete. Finn.
Great video!! Everything was going good for me until I tried to remove inner stainless drum from plastic housing. Shaft does not budge from being pulled through bearings so I can remove rear half of housing. Any tips would be super appreciated.
Pete, your video is awesome!!! It's given me the courage to make the repair. Like you I disassembled today to assess. It took me a lot longer, lol, which I fully expected. I took my time, took pictures and noted about 27 steps. My washer wasn't banging but with about 6 min to go on a final spin cycle I smelled the burning and immediately stopped the machine. After disassembly, my bracket has cracks and holes in it so it needs to be replaced. However, my seal looks to be in good shape and the bearings spin fine which leads to I a question which I hope isn't against guidelines. Should I still replace the bearings and seal. I only ask because I'm concerned about how much of a challenge it may be to get them out and the new ones in. Your and others feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Norman
Hey Norman! I am in the same situation you were. Did you figure it out? I would like to know before I order parts and tear it apart. Also, did you continue using it a while after it was found smoking? Is it safe for now? Thanks
The reason that bracket was falling apart is due to the fact they put two type of metal that all engineers know it’s not supposed to be touching each other or will get corrode. LG, Samsung and other did it on purpose. My sister-in-law got lucky her washer fell apart 7 months old she end up getting a different one.
Thanks for this wonderful video. I noticed similar issue with my front load washer. I see some cut on my bellow ring rubber and damaged. I can see issue only after i remove the drum. I didn't see Amazon Part reference on bearing, seals and other triangle part. Can you please update this information?
I will have to look, I ordered the spider bracket off the LG website. The bearings were off of Amazon. They were on there at the time. Hope you find them.
hi Pete, I have the same BANGING issue with my LG washing machine, the same model is yours. can you please tell me what's the PARTS NUMBER for the spider arms. thank you so for your help.
Am I really the only one having trouble lifting the drum out of the plastic crate? Like in minute 12:41 he makes it look so easy to life up and mine feels like it’s completely bolted shut it won’t move. Did anyone else come across the same issue? If so how did you take it off?
Hey I know this video is several years old now but hopefully you’ll still see this, but tool did you use to get the bearings out? That’s the challenge I’m having right now.

RPS sensor? How did this cause the issue?
excellent video, from Puerto Rico I thank you infinitely, you saved me a fortune besides the fact that the technician did not want to fix my washing machine but thanks to this video I was able to do it myself God bless you
Perfect video.
Excellent video tutorial Pete! Thank for making this video. Gives me confidence to do it myself instead of hiring a pro.
Where did you get the parts?
I looked up the part number and it was sold on Amazon. I think the parts cost me about $120, but it was 2-3 days of labor. Not fun, but I didn't need to buy a new washing machine.@@DrHorne-bz2yt
Thank you very much for the detailed video. I was able to make all the part replacements and after 7 loads things are still working properly. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this excellent video! I just fixed my washer following your step-by-step tutorial here. Your video was extremely helpful! Great job and thanks so much!
Thank you very much! It would have taken extra hours without the video and instruction. Appreciate your time and knowledge.
You are a life saver. Thanks. Made the repair so easy to follow. Cheers from Canada.
Great work. I thought about performing this exact repair a few years ago and decided to pass. If I would have seen this video, I would have given it a try.
Thank you, very thorough. I'm going through the same repair right now and this has been very helpful.
Terrific job running through tear down and rebuild! Thanks
Thank you for putting this out I was able to fix my washer. This is the best video out there had the exact same issue and ordered everything from Amazon thanks again.
We have LG washer and dryer and same exact problem. Washer drum banging loudly and smoking. Ours are also around 9 years old. Thank you for the video.
Just wanted to say thank you for the outstanding instructions! I just finished putting mine back together thanks to you 🙏
AWESOME JOB, BUT YOU MADE IT LOOK SO DAMN EASY TO DO. I'M 70 AND I THINK IT WILL TAKE ME ALL DAY TO DO THIS JOB, IF I HAVE ALL THE PARTS I NEED. THANKS FOR A GRATE HOW TO INFO. GOD BLESS. OLD MAN BRUCE IN SOUTHWEST, UTAH.
I usually use the old bearing to install the new one in and a piece of wood , btw great video sir 👌
Subscribed 👍
Great video Pete. One note, the plug on the stator that was so hard to get off will actually easily unplug from the stator side. Mine popped off while struggling with the end you struggled with. I never could get mine to unplug even after the stator was removed and out of the way.
Thank you! Fixed washer and it was spider arm and bearings! You the man!
Great video. I get to attempt this tomorrow morning. I just wish I would have watched the whole video before I ordered parts. Got my fingers crossed that my spindle frame isn't cracked like your is.
Nice! 6 hours in and I’m half way done… the bolts were stripped on the spider and I had to cut them out, found a few more fun things to fix on the way too…
Just finished mine, and works great thanks for the help 😄
@@garypieratt2961possibly, you should have seen the state of it.
This was hands down a very informed video!!! It saved me Hundreds $$$ I am sure…. Ordered the parts & installed as per your instructions…. Spot on & for this I thank you,
Mikeywirez😎
Thanks man have a good one
Such a great video! Thank you for taking the time. Really helps me see what I'm up against. Such amazing tech from a homeowner! A+
Did a load of wash tonight and heard the banging but, no smoke.
Incredibly helpful video and saved me a pile of money!
Thank you for the video, I couldn’t have changed the bearings in my LG washer if it wasn’t for this video. Ty
We started having the same problems after 12 years. Consumer Reports says anything older than 10 years you should seriously consider just replacing. Debating if I should replace the parts as well.
very detailed, thank you a ton! I have the same washer and the same issue so it looks like i may have to do this.
some tips:
you're mostly going to spin when it's wet, so putting a lubricant like vaseline on the bearing is kind of a moot point as the detergant will get to it.
You weren't kidding about the disassembly. You were one step away from melting it down.
Thanks for the video. Spent a hundred in parts and a couple hours of time to save $1000.
A+ video. Thank you! Did anyone replace the shocks while they had the thing apart?
Seriously, thank you so much! You saved me with this video. Much appreciated!
Best video I’ve found. This is after many many videos I’ve watched. 🙏
Installing the door seal spring is that same as putting a bicycle tire on a rim, back in the day when kids fixed their bikes!
Did it work, any other tips?
Did that work? I am at the same problem.
You make hammering off those bearings look so easy but I had to take mines to a shop to be removed.
Sometimes the bearings can be on there bad I’m sure mine came off pretty easy. Thanks for watching.
Need the right hammer and a long taper punch. I bought a 4 pound metal hammer. Do not use a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer. I spent hours beating those and nothing moved. Metal hammer they came out in 2 mins.
Very informative video. I will use this while my hubby repairs our noisy LG washer.😂😂
wow....i have the same model and same issue. Thought I could do it myself but removing all the parts...I know I'd have missed something putting it together. Where are you...can you come and fix my machine please! Amazingly detailed video...
Thank you for your video help me fix my washer same your LG model, get trouble the same, Oder part from Amazone less than $100. Took me two days for fix it, run smooth , quiet now, look like new.
Thank you for clear video save me $1000 for buy a new one.
I'm having the same issue. I can't get mine off either. Any help would be great!
Thanks so much for the details! 👍
Thanks
Norman
Hey Norman! I am in the same situation you were. Did you figure it out? I would like to know before I order parts and tear it apart. Also, did you continue using it a while after it was found smoking? Is it safe for now? Thanks
Nice work Pete, that's a big job but you saved a bundle doing the repair yourself
Do you have a link to the kit that you ordered?
The reason that bracket was falling apart is due to the fact they put two type of metal that
all engineers know it’s not supposed to be touching each other or will get corrode. LG, Samsung and other did it on purpose. My sister-in-law got lucky her washer fell apart 7 months old she end up getting a different one.
Thanks a lot man, I had the same problem and your video helped me fix it
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching man
Excellent, this will be a great help.
Thank you for the video. Completed the repair. No the tub fills with water constantly now. What did I miss? Could really use your help. Thanks.
When installing your new bearing use the old one to hit , to set the new one . Make sure it is seated all the way down, or it may be slightly crooked
Really great video.
12 years, started smoking today. Looked up this video and yup….gunna buy a new one haha.
Exactly my thoughts
Well done , great info.
You are hired. Great job…
How the hell did you get the spindle off I tried to get the spider spindle Off and the bolts just keeps spinning
I had the same issue. I used a bolt extractor and a torch.
Thanks for the info. Turns out my plastic tub housing had a hole worn it it so it's scrap metal.Too costly to fix.
Same thing here but some marine epoxy patched it up.
What's the item number to be purchased at Amazon?
hi Pete, I have the same BANGING issue with my LG washing machine, the same model is yours. can you please tell me what's the PARTS NUMBER for the spider arms. thank you so for your help.
Very nice work done..Very neat appreciated 👏 👌 👍 😀 😊
This is a great video
Thank you so much!! This was so helpful!!
That was awesome! About how many hours would you say it took you to complete this project?
How much do these kits cost? Im about to dissasemble and hopefully fix it this week
If I have another unit that’s the same can I just replace the whole assembly? Do I not need to take off counter weights or anything?
How did you get the bolts on the spider gear with the nut on the inside of the drum off?
Am I really the only one having trouble lifting the drum out of the plastic crate? Like in minute 12:41 he makes it look so easy to life up and mine feels like it’s completely bolted shut it won’t move. Did anyone else come across the same issue? If so how did you take it off?
Did you get it fixed? I am at the same problem.
@@dgotwals1 i had to bang it out
Me too, I had to hammer the hell out of the shaft (with a brass hammer) it was frozen on the inner bearing….
Hey I know this video is several years old now but hopefully you’ll still see this, but tool did you use to get the bearings out? That’s the challenge I’m having right now.
I can't find any videos about my washer smoking because they're all saying they're smoking from the drum inside but mine wasn't it was off in the back
Thank you so much for this video.
