My Thunderbolt 1000 Emergency Activations for 3 Tornado Warnings 2-6-2020

- Recorded in the morning of February 6, 2020. This is a video of my Thunderbolt 1000 sounding off for 3 TORNADO WARNINGS for my county (Spartanburg County) and my area. Just a note that the control wire that connects the AR Timer to the Thunderbolt's RCM failed. So we had to manually do it. I had a siren/EAS enthusiast (ClayRanger143) over at my place for the severe weather event. I know I was going very crazy because I FINALLY got to sound off my Thunderbolt 1000 for tornado warnings!
About the first siren activation, the tornado warning wasn't directly for my area. The tornado warning was about 8 miles east away from my area. There was an EF-1 (winds approximately 110 mph) tornado touch down in Spartanburg, SC on a 10 mile path. Damages were reported for that area. Fortunately, there were no reports of injures or deaths.
The second tornado warning was for next to my area even though the tornado warning was for my nearby county (Greenville Co.). The first reason why I sounded my Thunderbolt for it was because half of my Thunderbolt's coverage reaches to SW Greenville County. (My Thunderbolt's coverage is between SW Greenville County, SW Spartanburg County but siren is in SW Spartanburg County.) And the second reason for that I somehow I received the WEA (Wireless Emergency Alerts) for my area. My siren's third activation was for the updated Southeast Greenville County tornado warning (Severe Weather Statement) for my area. I sounded my Sterling Little Giant and ClayRanger143 sounded my Thunderbolt 1000. The Sterling Little Giant failed during the activation was due to rain got into the exposed power source wire (wire is connected between the motor starter to the Little Giant). There were no reports of a tornado for the Southeast Greenville Co. tornado warning.
The siren's forth activation was for the tornado warning about 7 miles south away from my siren's location. There were no reports of a tornado.
Notes: I was not meaning to sound my Thunderbolt for about 6 minutes for the first activation since I could not calculate well.
Siren Information:
My Thunderbolt 1000 is a single phase model (1000B). Blower is 4M. My Thunderbolt was on a temporary use for this event since it was supposed to be restored.

You gotta have it so you aren't standing outside in lightning around big metal objects.. I get the passion but you are risking your life to run the sirens and may do more harm than good if you get struck by lightning. Gotta figure out a way to activate them inside and preferably IN TORNADO SHELTER.. Just my 2 cents as I'm heavily involved with storm chasing and severe weather in tornado alley

@@jbtornado He has a control panel in his bedroom that has a button he can push to set this off but it failed so he was forced to go outside and manually do it.

I’ve never heard a tornado warning originally being from California and we haven’t had any here in Kansas yet, but that siren gives me ANXIETY. Sounds like the siren from Silent Hill that always creeped me out as a kid
Venessa Bosquez youll never forget the first time you actually experience one. My family was stationed at Ft. Riley Geary county. I’ll never forget when a tornado moved the roof off of my friends house it was absolutely nuts.
My advice to you is to stay calm, and go to your safe place with your loved ones and pets.
I appreciate your enthusiasm but remember that the first step to being safe in these events is to remain calm. I speak as a retired LEO. Still funny!

DrabProgram there are a tone around me. I live in Illinois, and just go on eBay. I bought a model L for $500 on eBay
DrabProgram mine need to be restored but most don’t. It depends on the condition they are in. If you search up model a siren about 15 show up on the first page
@@Midwest_Sirens Usueally if you make a siren chopper, to make it louder you must force air into the chopper just like that Thunderbolt 1000. The more air you put into the chopper the louder it gets

Thats cool! Do you guys just have that set up on your own or do you need permission to set one up by the city? I mean obviously you cant set it off whenever but when there is an active tornado warning in the area do you need city permission to operate it or is it good on its own so long the sounding isn't abused?

Where I live (Oregon) they don't have a good warning system outside of EAs and we do get twisters I always wanted to blare one when we have a tornado warning. But we been having more and more wildfires and in some parts of the state they have these sirens for fire watch my town was almost taken out in 2020 by wildfire and I'd like to see them use a siren like the Tbolt 1000 in case we have another fire emergency up river. Heck I'd get the permission to activating it if they decided on installing one at our firestation. Currently due to covid the CERT program is on hold as I am going to go into that. You did awesome for alerting your area that does not have a siren. you saved lives thank you. we need more people out there that care enough to do stuff like this.

I don't believe so. However, you may have to call the police department and ask
If you talk to your local EMA (emergency management) they can grant you permission, but it depends on the area and if your county allows. Another thing to factor in, unless you tell them you are testing the siren it is only allowed to be tested on the testing day at the exact time the sirens are supposed to sound
Wouldn't the electronics get damaged by the rain? Those old AR panels didn't have any waterproofing.

@@warningsirensofmichio9660 The county does have a reliable system. It's a pretty decently sized network. He just lives in a dead zone. He lives about four miles from the nearest siren which is a vortex.

This is badass, but I have a legit question, are you actually allowed to set off your own signal during an actual tornado warning? Like is it legal?
That’s exactly what he did in this video. If it’s not an actual tornado warning then you could get fined or arrested for public disturbance and misuse of a siren. I’d imagine you’d have to ask FEMA for more info, it depends on your country, and it depends if your country has siren-worthy storms/allows people to acquire real sirens for personal without violating any laws.

I don't exactly know, but I've been doing it for a long time, and nobody seems to mind it. The worst thing you can do is set it off for no reason.
It’s a good thing TrainsAndSirens1 got permission. My area has 1 siren-a Model 5 at the Lakeland Linder Airport-and that’s it. If I could legally own a siren, I would be happy, even if it was a 2001

A tornado was not reported. The siren is there to warm a tornado might touch down.

but note: you replaced your 1000 with a 1003 in an unknown year because I don’t know when you got your 1003. the 1000’s blower was 4M but you replaced the 4M with a 5M blower on the 1003 because the 1000’s blower and the whole siren got demolished by the tornado.
