    Kid Charlemagne is one of the pinnacle achievements of popular song writing in the 1970's, the music the lyrics are unmatched
    and unchallenged by any of the groups (Eagles, Bee Gees etc;) of that era. It is as fresh today as it was w hen it was penned nearly

One night they were clearing out quickly from the place they were in, thus the line about "be careful what you carry", and "you are still an outlaw in their eyes." He asked his partner "Is there gas in the car?", and his partner answered "Yes there's gas in the car." Guess what ran out of gas in front of a police car with all their drugs and paraphernalia in it.

    Jon Herrington tears it up...again. He plays the important hooks from the original solo and adds some of his own ideas. I wonder how he chooses which axe to use on each solo - if he does research into what was used on the original or if he just tries each of his guitars until he gets the sound he wants. One of my favorite's from Steely. We miss Walter, too. Greatly. Boz and Michael look great too. Sound great as well. But I'm glad you're still working Donald. At this age, you can just kick it with friends and just enjoy playing what the fans really want to hear. I ABSOLUTELY love seeing and hearing Jon Herington in there as well. In the end, we're all just three New Jerseyans scratching our heads as to how it all came to be this way. Since we can't have Walter back, we will all have to wait to see him again cracking on that Sadowsky again in the light.

    Nice to see Boz play along with an intriguingly tricky song on guitar... didn't appreciate his musicality in the day. Beautiful jazz singer too! But credit to Donald... birthed the most enduring musical narrative songs of the 70's and 80's into our world. Genius...

    Donald and Walter both deserve the highest award our country offers for civilians. They have brought more happiness to more people, like almost, and arguably, no other two except maybe Lennon and McCartney...but c'mon, for a palette of greats to "sit in" with? Who's with me?!!

    Brilliant - no one will ever play that solo like Carlton, though.

    • @kerryfriel2443
      @kerryfriel2443 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Your just use to hearing that solo that way. Carlton played great stuff, but Herrington nails the key points live while adding some of his own very cool stuff in. If there isn't any improv. on solo's, it gets stiff and stale. I like a drummer with more flair than this. The guy (sorry I don't remember his name) that plays live with S.D. plays with more passion than this guy. Still, great stuff!!!!! It's nice to see professionally filmed concerts too.

    • @DeanWuksta
      @DeanWuksta 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kerry Friel
      Purdie played on a lot of the earlier stuff, Carlock's been sitting in with them lately, saw them live last year, but this guy Shannon has some chops, solid too.

    • @tonyjforder
      @tonyjforder 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've heard it played many ways, but Carlton owns it his way. I'm all for experimentation - if I want it like the record I'll play the record - but this is one of the all-time great solos, and I've never heard Carlton's version bettered.

    It's probably somewhere in this thread, but Michael McDonald was on the original Steely Dan recording as well. He sang background on this particular song, but also played keyboards and backup vocals for several SD albums even after he moved to The Doobie Brothers.
