Thats how you develop a game: Start with the clouds and then work your way down to the foundation. Can't wait what the next 10 years of development will bring.
i always keep my clouds on photo mode because my pc is so CPU bottlenecked that changing graphics setting from min to max only has a 10 fps difference at worst.
I always thought Star Citizen was CPU limited, but I got an I7-14700k with my 2070S and I just realized today that it’s disbalanced enough that I’m GPU limited even with all settings to low, so I can’t wait to get a 5000 series GPU to finally be able to experience clouds!
The verticality of the clouds convinces me that they need to ~double planet sizes so they can stretch the verticality of mountains up like 4-8x what they currently are. We need *real mountains* alongside those clouds. Give me a Vancouver-level mountains-on-the-ocean view in Star Citizen.
@@N1ghtR1der666 I'm not into game dev, but can you really make a Z axis check with round planets into a universe ? I wonder how is player Z-axis position calculated in such an environment, what is the origin point... But I agree with you that just by knowing the "inner" radius of a planet, I think they could add it relatively quickly
@@N1ghtR1der666 the server failed to check collision that's why he fell because the servers are borked. If they are borked they can't even run this system you want to implement.
They need to increase the size of the planets. With the volumetric clouds it looks odd. Don't get me wrong, I like how it looks overall, but for a weird reason it doesn't feel natural. Maybe because the distance from cloud to land and space are way too close.
That music cue getting out of the ship @ 5:11 and the way the music continued to build as you took your initial look around, made a rather normal moment seem epic. Given the scale of the game hopefully it gets filled with small moments like this.
I never knew why this game felt so "small" in scale even tho this game is huge. Especially being on planets. Now i know why. Clouds are so important for scale. This looks amazing.
I bedlogged whilst landed on Hurston yesterday and when I logged back in my ship was upside down at the same location. Getting out of bed and into the seat was 'interesting'.
Thanks for your videos Olli! You always manage to make me smile, and are probably the star citizen content creator i enjoy watching the most :) Its just nice having people enjoy what they're doing and find fun even in this slightly broken game lmao
As amazing as they look, the increased verticality of clouds really highlights just how overly small planets are. From orbital height, the clouds simply look too big in relation to the planet and atmosphere, giving away that the planet as a whole is actually the size of a small moon. It just doesn't look right for clouds to extend almost into space, and yet decreasing their height would make the clouds feel too in relation to the ground and ships. The only real solution is increasing the size of the planet. What I don't really understand is why this is an issue to begin with. Planets are procedural, so would it really add much extra work just to scale the planets up to a more realistic size?
Elite dangerous player here. Iv been contemplating buying this game for a few weeks now since recently upgrading my pc. I can run Elite at over 200 fps so hopefully I can run SC at least at 60 lol Edit: after watching the whole video and seeing the amount of glitches you experienced in a single play session I think I’ll stick with Elite lol😅
What is the point of everything looking pretty and them spending all of this time on this stuff when its pretty much unplayable though. Seems like theyre making tech demos instead of the actual game.
I feel like some of the clouds make it a hint too dark in the current implementation for the time of day that it is but it does look cool to see the spots of light come through on the hills. I like that not all the planets in Pyro are as flat as a lot of Stanton.
they're really high fidelity but they look weirdly dense and... dirty? i feel like the light from the sun (for both stanton and pyro) doesn't penetrate far enough into them
Some people might prefer first-person view, while other might prefer 3rd-person view. One thing is for certain though: the only thing worse than either of those is constantly flicking back and forth between the two.
Great looking sceanery and Pyro looks amazing. The increased FOV really ruins it for me though. The fish eye and limb distortion just completely destroys the video quality and is actually nauseating to watch. People get used to it in FPS games where it gives an advantage and don't see it anymore. When you are trying to make something cinematic or that has visual appeal, spaghetti arms and fish eye is not the go to look. Anyway, just some constructive criticism. Thanks for the video and the great work!
Part of it is playing SC on an ultra wide where comparatively drastic adjustments to the FOV are necessary to not feel bottled in by the aspect ratio. I have to do the same thing, it's not even necessarily a preference thing at this point.
@@Mr_Jish Oh, I know. I play on an ultrawide. It isn't about what a person feels when they play, it is about producing content. If a person wants their content to be appealing to the broadest range of people possible, they need to conform to the standards set to that content. If people went to a movie or tuned into a TV show that looked like that, they would immediately find something else to watch. 60 FPS is barely acceptable for most gamers but completely unacceptable for most media like movies due to the "soap opera effect" it causes. This is the same thing. I play with increased FOV but find that it nauseates me and turns me off the content when watching it for pleasure. Especially when not on widescreen. You can look to creators like Morphologist who present ultrawide videos but maintain a very cinematic experience as examples of what I am talking about.
@@Mr_Jish The other part of this is that I often watch these videos to get an idea of what the default view is like on ships and which MFDs are viewable. Having an increased FOV distorts that idea and leads to false expectations. I kind of feel it is painting a false expectation about what piloting these ships really feels like. That is completely subjective and I know it is kind of a me thing but it plays into who I and my friends watch and subscribe to so is still valuable information.

There's AT LEAST one place in 4.0 where some mountains peak above the clouds, but I definitely wouldn't be mad at 1:4 scale planets.
yeah double is a good starting point without loosing too much ground resolution
they should really implement a system to teleport the player back up after detecting that the player fell through the map
