  • Mt. Washington claims another victim. 100th Laconia Rally 1st timers... ‪@JordanRay‬ and I trailered from Ohio to New Hampshire to experience our first Laconia MC Rally! Mt. Washington was by far the best part of our 200+ mile ride this day! Unfortunately, I don't have too much video anymore due to my unfortunate circumstance.

Back in 1999, my wife and I went to Laconia. My wife was a new rider on her new Sportster 883 hugger. I was nervous to have her ride that far and I watched her in my mirror all the way there…lol. We stayed in North Conway for 10 days and went to the summit of Mount Washington. Watching your video brought back a lot of memories. This was one of the best time we as a couple have ever had. I never thought she would be able to make it from New Brunswick Canada to Laconia New Hampshire but she did it with flying colours. I’ve never underestimated her again. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really brought back some great memories for us 💕

I feel your pain. I lost my GoPro Max on the Blue Ridge Pkwy in NC when my pole mount broke. The rider behind me was too far back also. All that was left on the bike was the bottom piece of the pole that I had bolted to my luggage rack. We found the pole a few miles back, but no camera . It also had a 256 gb card with 2 days of riding footage. BTW, I ride a Victory Cross Country as well.... Glad to see so many represented up there. As always, enjoy your vlogs!

Congratulations on the inaugural trip with the toy hauler AND Midge! Sorry about the loss of the 360 and its footage. A few years back, I rode the Cog rail up. It was August and almost 90 degrees at the base. At the top raged a storm, day turned into night and it was snowing. Some cars were there but no motorcycles. You had some nice weather. I hope some kind soul finds the 360 and realizes it's your, then reaches out to return it. Unlikely, but we can still hope. Stranger things have happened.

Mt.Washington is awesome. I hiked up the Tuckerman's ravine trail twice in the 1980s and drove a 1976 Camaro with 131k miles up the auto road. Never thought of the issues of a carbureted bike climbing that road. Guess my 2000 Sportster shouldn't try it. Awesome video, brings back memories.

Oh, I'm so jealous. Used to have Airhead Beemers, and the new R18 looks GORGEOUS... and I can't even imagine how it must ride going up Mt Washington. I've done the mountain twice so far, first on my R80RT and then on my GL1500 Gold Wing.
BTW, there are a lot of places where you'd see a guard rail down south... I suspect that the DOTs up here figure that we're all big boys and girls and can take our chances! I know there are a LOT of places where I live in Vermont I'm surprised that there's no guardrail.
If you have a chance, take a ride to the summit on a day when they're running the old steam engine on the Cog Railway - it's such a blast! I did it for my 40th birthday: there were three people clustered up by the engine watching them shovel coal into the boiler... a couple of 10 year old kids and me. :)

I LOVE these duo vlogs when you ride with your husband. The fact that you ride different types of bikes, you have different views on things, one admiring the views, other worried about carburators and mechanics. I would love to watch a series of 30-50 videos of you two doing a long ride through Europe. Like from Portugal through Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Swiss, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece. And then turn back west through the nordic countries From Poland through north up to Scotland. That would be AMAZING! Like one on a large Harley Cruiser and one on a PanAmerica...one admiring the views getting drone shots of the most beautiful mountain sights in the world, the other worries about mechanical issues, HD points, biker communities in Europe. maybe even do parts with some othe known european biker vloggers like tomboy_a_bit and others. F*ck it, I would pay Netflix, to watch such a series, just how you two would film it, comment it, experience it. And the more vlogs like these i watch the more i would love to see that. You rock! Both of you!!!

Mt Washington was great, I did it back in some time ago on my 1982 KZ1100, it's carbed but did fine, it would get sluggish going up over the Rockies at 10000 ~ 11000 feet. The air has less oxygen the further up you go so carbed bikes run richer as you go up.

You definitely had more of a view than I did riding up Mt Washington during Laconia Bike week! I rode through the clouds to get up there, many ofnus kept our flashers on, just to make sure we could be seen. Like you, I exclaimed; oooh waterfall when i saw it! I was smiling all the way up and back down again! The altitude alone definitely would make a carbureted bike not happy, then add in the 20-30°temp drop.

I was fine in my truck, but I told my wife several times “there’s no way I would ride my bike on this road.” To be fair, I have an unhealthy fear of heights.

Hope you guys enjoyed our beautiful state! Sorry about your 360....You were riding through Franconia Notch on that first part of the video btw. I've driven the auto road probably about 20 times when the kids were younger on family vacations. I'm still not sure I'd do it on my RG Ultra though. Definitely not with my wife on the back. Interesting note though... they recently paved the entire road. In the past, the last mile and half to 2 miles to the summit was dirt and gravel.

Thin air at altitude means you are running a very rich fuel mixture. 3% power loss for each 1000 ft of elevation means you lost about 20% just for altitude, and your rich mixture probably cost you another 20%. Glad you made it!

Mount Washington is NOT and issue with EFI and not that big a deal even with carburetor it’s REALLY hard on the brakes on decent especially Two up NOW Pikes peak really bits the power but is quite easy on the decent as the roads have so many more switch backs

    • @FirstnameLastName-sx8ls
      @FirstnameLastName-sx8ls ปีที่แล้ว

Isn't there an adjustment for the carbs that would allow you to adjust your fuel mixture? I run old carburated bikes. Oh, wait, the FJR is EFI. It's still old though. 😅😅

Next time in CO ride up Pikes Peak or over Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain NP. FYI Jordans bike is not going lean but going rich at altitude you have less oxygen so more fuel in a carb bike.

Beautiful ride there thorough Mt. Washington! This rides on my bucket list! I love how you have your video tied into your com gear, allowing us to hear your conversation while you enjoy the ride together. The road looked a little wet there in places, you mentioned it was slick. Oh shit, you lost your 360 cam? Sorry for the spoiler alert. Really enjoyed that ride, I'll get back to watching the rest of the video. Nice work!

@@HerTwoWheels Well, you took it well when you discovered it was gone. Me, that just would have ruined the rest of my day. I'd be swearing like a sailor and not bothering to edit it out! LOL I crashed my drone in a local creek one day. Took me 5 hours to find it. I wasn't as concerned about the drone itself as much as I was the card inside as I had been getting the best shots all day without downloading it. The card was fine, and I smothered the drone it in rice for 5 days and it worked like a champ. Ha, some days are bad, and some are worse. Then you catch a break! Be safe!

I got blown over at the top of Mt Washington when we went up, but we parked at the very top lot. Combination of being terrified, focused on not stalling, going too slow when attempting a turn, a parking attendant standing right in my way, and 30+ mph wind gust at just the wrong moment.

The texture in the road is due to the ice bars on the snow car that used to transport staff at the observatory in the winter. Does a number on the road, but the top of the mountain is usually a sheet of ice in the winter and without the ice bars, the machine would slide right off.
The "winter cutoff" is a different trail that the snowcat uses once the snow is deep that prevents running sidehill.
There isn't a huge venue in Laconia. No major concerts, etc. Yes, you have the races at Louden, but everything else is spread out. Hill climbs at Gunstock, riding everywhere. I was up from Sunday to Wednesday and did nearly 1500 miles. Was on Washington on Monday as well (didn't see your camera) but I think I was later than you were as I was heading up sometime between 2 and 3. Lots of really great riding in the north country.

Did you ride the Kancamagus Highway (akd rt 112) between North Conway NH and Lincholn NH? I loved Jordans explanation of the rally "harley block party with alot of shit for sale". Friday night it started raining around 11 & all day Saturday all day rain.

The problem isn’t his carb, it’s the speed you are going. Flagstaff Arizona is 7200 ft which is a thousand feet higher than Mt. Washington. Carbs have no problem there.

Going up that mountain looked sketchy as hell!! Also looked fun.
As far as rallies go I’m with Jorden. Literally it’s the same people selling the same stuff. Right down to the girls that work in the bars.
In 2017 I went to the Strugis rally. We were there the week before and had a blast. Watching videos from other folks I would not have fun durning the rally. For me it’s all about riding.

I use to live in a ride in New England years ago, you get a chance you should check out route 1A from Portland ME to Boston all along the Atlantic coast, you go thru a lot of cool little towns, that have a ton of seafood restaurants . And Boston rocks and looks a lot like a European city

You rode right past my parents’ place in Meredith where I’m staying right now. 😂 Mt. Washington is fun. There was a dirt section but they paved it last year. My carbed KLR had no problem getting up it but maybe Harleys are more sensitive to altitude. Now go watch Travis Pastrana’s record setting run up Mt. Washington! I worked that event near the summit. He passed me at about 90. 😮 I may be out in the Sturgis area the same time as you before the rally…

you got lucky wasn't that windy. I live in NH been up several times once wind gusts were 67 mph. Everyone was at full lean going straight. You should try doing the sunrise tour. You go up Maintain in the dark. But you get to see the sun rise on top of the maintain.
