I have an old Fleischmann loco that runs but very slowly. I have cleaned the brushes and commutator until they shine and the gears and wheels are all lubricated and all spin freely with no binding but with power applied it creeps around the track. I thought it might be an electrical issue ( too much resistance ) but the motor does not get hot even after it runs for several minutes. Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.
@@seanhogan5673 you may have short through the wheels. Check that insulated wheels are all on the same side and all non insulated wheels are on the opposing side, connecting to the correct side of motor.
@@fleischmann_rowa_roco_ho Thank you for the quick reply. The engine is an 891315, a little puffer-belly old timer. I have several of them. When I compare it to the others it all appears to be exactly the same. No deviations in wiring and or parts installation. How could I tell if all of the wheels are insulated or not? Thank you!
@@seanhogan5673 the insulated wheels have a black or red plastic tube as insulator which the axle is pushed into. Another possible cause is that one off the the three wires on the rotor slip plate is disconnected. You may want to check this as well. I usually test the installed motor by applying 12V to the motor connectors directly and without the plus lead soldered to connector
@@fleischmann_rowa_roco_ho Thank you. There do not appear to be any disconnected wires. All are installed as per the other two 1315s that I have. The wheels all appear to be in order as well. In fact, it would seem that this engine had never been apart. Initially, it would not run at all. When I disassembled it, I found the inside of the motor to be oily and dirty, as if someone sprayed oil into it in an effort to get it to run. A very common and ignorant mistake that I find quite often. After a thorough cleaning and a proper lube, the engine came to life but as I said, it will only run at a very slow speed.
@flemmingchristensen1244 I downloaded the Fleischmann Manual for 4273 since I don’t have one here and it looks pretty straightforward. Which decoder are you using? I will show the details in a an upcoming video when I install a Lokpilot 4 DCC in one of my E 103 4375 which is very similar to your engine Peter
