I have an old Fleischmann loco that runs but very slowly. I have cleaned the brushes and commutator until they shine and the gears and wheels are all lubricated and all spin freely with no binding but with power applied it creeps around the track. I thought it might be an electrical issue ( too much resistance ) but the motor does not get hot even after it runs for several minutes. Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.

@@fleischmann_rowa_roco_ho Thank you for the quick reply. The engine is an 891315, a little puffer-belly old timer. I have several of them. @@seanhogan5673 the insulated wheels have a black or red plastic tube as insulator which the axle is pushed into. Another possible cause is that one off the the three wires on the rotor slip plate is disconnected. You may want to check this as well. @@fleischmann_rowa_roco_ho Thank you. There do not appear to be any disconnected wires. All are installed as per the other two 1315s that I have. The wheels all appear to be in order as well. In fact, it would seem that this engine had never been apart. Initially, it would not run at all. When I disassembled it, I found the inside of the motor to be oily and dirty, as if someone sprayed oil into it in an effort to get it to run. A very common and ignorant mistake that I find quite often. After a thorough cleaning and a proper lube, the engine came to life but as I said, it will only run at a very slow speed.

In the book "Fleischmann Tips" (my copy is from 1981) they described the development of their ringfield motor ("Rundmotor") giving the near-final version as from 1958. "Near final" becaue they changed its bearings a bit later to improve the lubrication. The version produced since 1958 has no external magnet, the magnetic stator is made of a ring-shaped permanent magnet they developed, it encloses the rotor without any gap. Your motor seems to have an external magnet (0:16), so your class V200 must have been produced before 1958, although your model might very well have been purchased in 1959. Fleischmann started their H0-range in 1952, but according to "Fleischmann Tips" in 1947 and in 1953 they made important steps in the development of their motor.

I have found your videos on these old Fleischmann loco very interesting. I have converted a 41 Steam loco with LokSound 5 DCC which works really well. I am also just converting an old E10 loco to LokSound 5 DCC and LEDs. I have two Fleischmann locos my father brought back from Europe in the 1960s. I had the same shorting problems with the E10 bogies you mentioned. I had to insulate the bogies from the chassis, so created 4x 3D printed swivel brackets to replace the 4 metal curved swivel brackets that slide into the body. This works well. I have found though, the loco bogies don’t run around the R1 360mm radius Fleischmann Profile track. The bogies don’t have enough angular movement to make the curve, so am trying to increase the maximum angular movement of the bogies. Keep the videos coming as they are very informative. Cheers Graham

At 6:05 I can see bronze reflection, but it was difficult to see if there is something in the other part. At least it looks like one is still there. I have here the 118 117-1 from Piko. It was produced in the GDR in the 80s. Still running with no maintenance after it was stored for over 30 years in not ideal conditions. I was somehow able to save a lot of the Locos and wagons from my childhood in the GDR. It is impressive and terrible at the same time, if you look how it was build. Some good/easy and reliable solutions. Also impressive solutions to switch the lights from white to red. And on the other hand bad materials and shortcuts to overcome the shortage of almost everything. I have some great memories playing with all this stuff and now my 5 yo son is helping me getting some of the old stuff back to life. I look some times on ebay to find some broken locomotives as spare parts, but it is insane how much is paid for that stuff. Nostalgic increases the price. Hello, thanks for this video... I loved this sound of a well serviced motor, there is no need to upgrade this. 👍👍👍 Regards Rainer

Hello, one advantage of converting into dcc is a fresh cabling. I added power- pick ups - min 70 % of all wheels -if possible. Thanks for your videos,! Great job👍👍👍

Hello and regards from northern Germany. Your video is very good. Im collecting fleischmanns since 45 years. The difference between this motors was new for me. Thanks for sharing it. I run lopi 5 and every loko runs very reliabel. Dcc with the twin- center is horrible. Im now using a yamorc dcc controler an a pc software traincontroller- very funny and interesting setting Rainer

Thank you for the video. I don't have any experience with digital trains but from the videos I saw on youtube the current needed is lower than expected. Moreover it might make sense to split a big layout into separate powerdistricts? When you were talking of 20 amps I thought the rails might not be fit for such a high current, especially the joiners. I habe the impression that Hans Tanner on his iott channel is providing a very good reference on digital development of a layout and because he designs a branch for the gartenbahn all the time is quite experienced in high current power design. Sadly at the moment I don't habe the space to build a layout and ended up collecting locomotives and coaches, which pile up everywhere. I buy these second hand and of course dc and most of the time I think at one day I will just habe a dc layout to run them. And I see videos like yours and I am not that shure as the conversion, especially on the old Fleischmann don't seem to be so bad, the motors running better, the space is there in the loco, the prices have dropped ... The main ideo of dcc, I knew that but Charly on his Chadwick channel pointed that out to make me aware of it, is, where the driver sits. With dc the driver sits everywhere and nowhere, in some kind of a powerplant by the track and on digital systems all ober sudden the driver is driving his engine. a great difference. After piling up rolling stock I thought a good idea is to buy used track (another pile next to the locos) and even though many modellers wouldn't recommend this I invested in used Fleischmann Profigleis. In the end my layout will be technology oriented more than habing some of the most beautiful landscapes. For landscape design please do not miss Jacque Leplate's webpage. He is just in the progress publishing his complete layout experience online for download, very generous, at ferbach.be/html_uk/ukcamythe.htm in french and german only, should be no problem for you. And than I see my loco stock any time I watch you channel and that makes me kind of happy. Just two years ago I bought the same Röwa S-Bahn, which is a stunning model. The diecast models from Fleischmann which love to throw themselves out of the curve, lovely, have these here too. All in bad state of maintenance. On New Haven from Fleischmann with a broken bogie and I thought how did that happen but found the answer in your last video (I will try to repair that (later) or swap it with one from a donator engine), thank you. All in all I just should start repairing locos, having a circle to testrun them, better on a foldout table than the floor for the locos not to suck up to much carpet but with dropoff rails, rather than thinking of the space for a decent layout and drawing trackplans in my head for a space I might never acquire. (this comment starts to be a bit langthy) and stop buying (which makes me happy but I lost track of the purchases). The modellers having a presentable setup beautiful to watch have started in their 50ies, I won't find time until I'm out of work at 67 and even than my pension will need me to find a job to finance my live, I know, and thats only 6 years to go. So I should better start now than later. Please! Keep up your spirit and the good work and rescue further old locos. Best Albrecht
