Rob Bell and Richard Rohr together....AMAZING ! Rob was introduced to me as a guest on another podcast I listen to " The Minimalists" and I was blown away from the second I heard him speak and knew this guy had something meaningful to say. He is probably one of the best communicators I have ever heard and his down to earth presence and knowledge of the most important things in life ( in my humble opinion) is filling my personal enrichment tool box to the brim. Rob you are truly a treasure!!!! This conversation with Richard had me nodding my head in agreement and touched on so many emotions that at times there were tears streaming down my face. Once I even jumped out of my chair scrambling for pen and paper to write down your gems of wisdom because it was just that GOOD !!! I am so HAPPY to have found your Podcast as it makes my morning commute and my daily tasks something to look forward to because you are there with me stimulating my mind and spirit. Your work has changed the way I move in the world on many levels and I am extremely grateful for all that you do. Grace and peace to you my friend.
I'm originally a Grand Rapids guy so I knew about Rob, watched Nooma with my youth group kids, etc. Found Richard Rohr through Christian mysticism channels. Both have so helped to re-define and animate a largely dead Jesus in my heart of hearts. Now I see divinity everywhere, having lost the filter of dualism I grew up with. In my 20s I was attracted to some of the truths of eastern religions but that only went so far. Now I find the same truths, but for me more dynamic and personal, in the Jesus story and scripture in general. It has so much that our American Christian culture strips away, so much life, breath, joy, freedom, grace. So hearing these two truly open hearts and minds reflect off one another.... beyond wonderful.
this is beautiful. thanks guys. i agree with all this so much. the next step: putting the truth to practice. i find that although this "flow" makes sense in my head, i don't always want to actually step in and be a part of it. One can have wounds of the soul healed and still be unsaved. Jesus said, My peace I give, not as the world gives...There is only ONE way to salvation and that is the Spirit of God revealing our lost situation, the sacrifice of Jesus for our sin debt, and accepting the free gift offer. This is the new birth which is a supernatural experience that restores us to right relationship with our Father and secures us for our eternal home with Him after this life. Humanism teaches that we are inherently good, not sinner in need of a savior...Richard has assembled a group of secular humanism beliefs, integrated them with bits of the Bible truth, labeled them Christian....he comes as an angel of light by which many will be deceived...

One thing I just don't understand about the non-dual mind is: What about evil? At around 29:30 Rohr says that 'everything bears the divine DNA'. But how do we make sense of the evil and darkness in this world? What is sin according to this view? Some things are good and some things are bad. And if someone denies this, then you must maintain that what I just said was wrong, and therefore what I said was 'wrong' or 'bad' and this maintains that some things are good and some are bad.
What's wrong with me? I just don't get the Trinity. It seems completely arbitrary to me, like the Church needed to explain how Jesus, God, could be talking to his Father, also God, when there's only one God. These days we can envisage it as the non-material unmanifested God and God manifested in the material plane, i.e. still just one God, but back in the 3rd or 4th century they hadn't thought of that more elegant model.
Anthony Cook I appreciate your transparency in this comment. I am very content with the belief of a Creator, some religions as my own naming it God, envisaged as you described. However, I too deeply struggle with the Trinitarian notion...

A barrier between eastern thought and western tends to mostly be lingual in how spirituality is perceived. For instance, in christo-Judaic thought, the masculine "pillar" is force, and is to the "right" (Chokhmah), the feminine (Binah) is form, and to the "left". In Hunduistic thought we are looking at EXACTLY the same thing. However, in their spiritual LANGUAGE, the pillars are named in reverse gender. The only thing of urgent not is to ALWAYS REMEMBER, as in certain languages around the world, some words are masculine or feminine, or neuter, and that, between languages this can change and isn't of itself important. It is the underlying substance that matters. So, too, how the living energy is symbolically portrayed is actually describing the same thing, a spiral going up in a cylindrical shape, then once at the top rotates back down till it loops back up. We have shadows of this surviving through images such as the medical caddueceus symbol. In Hinduism the elephant makes clear paths through thick dense dark Forrest. In the west Iochanan the Baptist fulfills this role with his "make straight paths" (clearing the Way). Sri Bakhtevedanti got it wrong, in his Krishna books in the 1970s by shooting his own argument in the foot. He showed he didn't actually know what he was talking about: He said in effect it was impossible for Jesus to be because to take away sin is to remove the karma. Lol? He just didn't get the purpose of Christ's mission there AT ALL, and actually made Jesus argument for Him! It's something Hinduism is generally fuzzy round the edges on, as they've been groomed for as long as we have. The hope of salvation for Hindus is bleak so far as "knowing your place" goes. Though their commoners are talked about by their professional classes much, they are rarely invited into the discussion. Though, it's getting bad again here in the west.
Here's a thought: what if humans were to connect with intelligent sentient, but alien beings from another world, how would we view the Trinity? Perhaps, God the unknowable Creator of all, Jesus of Nazareth, the highest aspects of divinity among humans as a sentient species, and the Holy Spirit which is the Divine able to manifest in all beings--and beyond. Other human cultures may describe it differently based on their traditions, but the highest elements of humanness is part of the Divine. But the Divine stretches beyond just humans, yet is still working to make humanity filled with love, justice, equality and wholeness.
Yes. The Franciscan’s would agree. Christ was crucified before the foundations of the universe AND in the beginning was the WORD AND all things were created for Christ, by Christ, and through Christ, so the whole thing - aliens included!- is MADE OUT OF Christ/Love/Salvation/Redemption!

Man, Rohr can talk and talk and talk without every saying anything definitive. I tried so hard to really gleam from this because I was excited about it because a friend recommended this exact talk, but it's all adjectives about a subject he never really discloses. Bell just offered whipped cream everytime Rohr ended his "thought". I'm about to ask my friend for my 80 minutes of life back. This is why I bailed on Richard so long ago. Do yourself a favor and skip the listen.
The writers of the Bible did...and the Holy Spirit does...They that have not the Spirit of God are not His...Romans 8:9 Richard and his followers do not believe a sacrifice was necessary for restoration of relationship with God...He does not believe in sacrificial atonement so he does not believe the scripture teaches that all who have sinned are under condemnation and that coming to believe and accept their condemned situation and believing Jesus paid the price for our sins and repenting, we remain condemned. I have a simple question...why do so many want God but refuse THE WAY? 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who are being saved it is the power of God. Humanism rejects the message of a Holy God and a rebellious mankind ...of the God who loved fallen mankind that He gave His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for their sins...supernatural translates very easily...TRUTH however is often spun by Satan in deceptive double speaking...God's message to Adam and eve was clear...and they opted to believe the deceptive double speaking of Satan...Richard is lying that all are and have always had, relationship with the Father and that Jesus only purpose was to reveal that relationship...that God did not require a sacrifice for sin...
Oh my God, this is truly heartbreaking. How cleverly the enemy has twisted the truth. People, please read the Bible and ask God to show you the truth. This is what Jesus Christ meant when he said in the last days deception will explode. I promise you what these two men talking about is the truth turned upside down. Oh God, have mercy. Interesting. Here is a portion of what Protestants removed before claiming, "Sola Scriptura." "Do not bring on your own death by sinful actions. 13 God did not invent death, and when living creatures die, it gives him no pleasure. 14 He created everything so that it might continue to exist, and everything he created is wholesome and good. There is no deadly poison in them. No, death does not rule this world, 15 for God's justice does not die. 16 Ungodly people have brought death on themselves by the things they have said and done. They yearn for death as if it were a lover. They have gone into partnership with death, and it is just what they deserve." (Wisdom 1:12-16) Question? Why was it ok to remove portions of God's holy Word? Perhaps their ANGRY God doesn't approve?
Joy LQ...what is interesting is that this 'removed quote' contradicts the Bible...maybe it was left out for that reason? You know we can pick and choose and build our own personal religions...without any absolute truth source we are all left to create our own...that is humanism. Once a person departs from scripture reinterpreting it from outside sources, there is no solid ground.... That is why Richard has formed a cult...and a pretty one it is...one can build their very own religious beliefs of choice and be just fine in eternity with God...hmmmmm....does he even believe that? I wonder...is he teaching evolving into being God? Could be...
Joy, therein is the most deceptive path to error...once you decide the scriptures are not supernaturally compiled by the Holy Spirit you have opened the door to relativism...that simply means now anyone can choose to believe anything that fits their human reasoning..Mormons are a prime example as is Richard's teachings...essentially that is departing from the only source mankind has for absolute truth to the place where all can formulate their own personal 'gospel'. Who would not want to be able to formulate their own path to God? WIDE is the path that leads to destruction..
His Child You are seeing God through the lens that your pastor taught you and their pastor before them. Both of these men are biblical scholars that devoted their lives to understanding the culture of the Bible. Your TH-cam evangelism is actually just tribalism. Perhaps you should question why you believe what you believe and understand that there is no greater sin then being certain of your faith.

Could be...
Do you believe 2 Timothy 3:16 "ALL Scripture is inspired by God...?" When Paul wrote that letter to Timothy, there were 7 more books in Paul's Bible.

You are seeing God through the lens that your pastor taught you and their pastor before them. Both of these men are biblical scholars that devoted their lives to understanding the culture of the Bible. Your TH-cam evangelism is actually just tribalism. Perhaps you should question why you believe what you believe and understand that there is no greater sin then being certain of your faith.
@@richardmaggio1979 There are much worse sins
This is how a cult starts
Like fundamentalist Christianity? Perhaps these two are exposing the cult.
To bad the bible is flawed and a complete rip off of other writings.
Fernando Alarcon it’s the other way around, genius...listen to add Oakley1689...TRUTH.
Which writing is mark's gospel a rip off of? What writing is the letter to Ronans a rip off of? Psalms? Isaiah? Would be interested to hear the list.
