India | Monsoon Session LIVE: Government Likely to Table Bill to Amend Wakf Act 1995 in Parliament
As the House reconvenes today, government sources indicate that a Bill to amend the Wakf Act of 1995 is likely to be introduced. Sources suggest that up to 40 amendments to the Act are under consideration, aimed at curtailing the powers of waqf boards. In response, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has labelled the proposed changes as “unacceptable.” Earlier, the government also introduced a Bill in the Lok Sabha to provide reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Goa Legislative Assembly. Currently, no seats are reserved for the ST community in the state’s assembly. The Bill will grant the census commissioner the authority to notify the population of STs in Goa.
