Great job! I loved this song the moment it was played on The Mule. The origin story is that Toby and Clint Eastwood played a game of golf. After the 18 rounds Toby was shocked a man of Clint’s age could still play that good. When asked how he does it Clint replied “it’s simple I don’t let the old man in” and it became a hit song. RIP cowboy. You done good! 😢
Actually Toby was at Clint Eastwoods 80th birthday celebration and he asked him what was he gonna do now that he was 80 and he said “try not to let the old man in”. Toby went home and wrote the song and sent it to Clint and Clint put it in the movie The Mule.
According to Toby…the first one. He was invited to play in the golf tournament. The conversation took place there. It’s in an interview on TH-cam straight from Toby.
Today is a tough day for us...God Bless and keep you Toby. We will miss you immensely. Thank you for being a true American. Thank you also Robbie for your great guitar lessons
This song is so pretty. I've never heard it til today...honestly. how sad. God Bless you for teaching this song sir. I hope Toby has ever increasing joy
More complicated than i thought it would be whem hearing it. Probably due to the drop d tuning altering chords that i already know by heart. Great lesson really helping me out.
I will definitely sign on to your teaching course in the near future. Going through some intense arthritic issues and physical therapy right at this point in my life. I am an armature in reality but a devoured professional at heart and soul. I am tenacious at my learning skills both on the guitar and the piano. This style of teaching connects with me. I get it. I have that "I can do it!" attitude no matter how long it takes, how complicated it may be, or how challenging it is. More people have got to see this specific tutorial of yours because very few musical accomplishments grab us with the intensity and emotions that Toby Keith, Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper have created. This song, this arrangement, this message, this movie will go down in history as famous as any ever existed. Years and years from now people will be still searching for your tutorial desperately trying to learn how to pick this melody on a guitar. It's like listening to George Jones singing for the thousandth time "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Classic. You never tire of some songs.
Thank you so much Willard! I'm sorry about the issues you are having, I hope the physical therapy helps you to heal! Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. It is such a great song with such emotion in it! I"m glad you found the video helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much. Your method of teaching is so clear and calm. I actually don't play guitar (but ukulele) but I have a guitar and have decided to get on with learning to play it after years of thinking about it. This is such a beautiful song and your teaching has prompted me to do so. I heard this song at the end of the film "The Mule". How fantastic is Clint Eastwood - still, and Toby Keith to write this song after a chance meeting with Clint Eastwood. Such talent! Thanks for yours also. Greetings from Australia.
I know you posted about year ago but wondering can you tell me what the finger placement is on the intro , so the ring finger is on the 4th string 4th fret and the 3r sting is open, and is the pinky finder on the 2nd string 4th fret and what string is the middle finger on, thanks if you can help
I finally remembered to try playing this song. It surprised me how easy it actually is to learn. It really sounds much more complicated to play. The tabs on it definitely helped too. Great job Robbie and thanks to whoever requested it because I had not heard it till I saw the lesson. 👍🎸🎸🎸
Yeah, so many songs sound a lot more complicated than they are. Just have to break them down. Glad it was easy for you and the tabs helped! Thank you!👍🎸
Thank you, It's such a great song. I'm sorry, I don't have any tabs, but hopefully you'll be able to learn what I'm doing from the videos. Thanks for watching!
I like to play this song but I am bit confused by the intro, and I hope my question is not confusing., so you say put middle finger on 4th string and 4th fret and the 3rd string is open and the 2nd string second fret, so that means you are only holding two strings in total?, or are there more strings to be held down, could you tell where the finger placements are on all the strings? Hope you understand my question thanks
Learn Guitar Favorites ...please don’t misunderstand me, I think you are a great guitar teacher. I have not seen all of your lessons but, the ones I have seen you do not speak a word you just play without explanation.
Awesome lesson. Thanks so much. If you don't mind could you answer a question. The sound quality of your videos is great. Could you please tell me what you used to record. Thank you

Hello i'm french. So sorry for my english. I have question. Did you change the sound of strings? because me my guitar is EADGBE and you when you do the 6th string it's not the sound of E. Thanks
Arghhhh. I tried this a year ago but got frustrated and quit. Now trying again and something just isn’t clicking. Simple chords but I guess I need pictures. Rewinding constantly and still can’t keep up. Love your channel so I’m just venting frustration of my own doing
Hey Mark, just tune the 6th string down to a D note instead of an E. I made a video on it and I'll have it out soon. Hopefully thay will help you. Thanks!

Your pain is over now. Your music will echo eternally. RIP and Godspeed Toby

Very moving,..much appreciated video..I believe this might be Toby Keith's most important song when he is gone or retired.
It's such a great song by him, definitely my favorite! I think you may be right, Thanks for watching!

I wish I was better at picking; I’d love to play this song as well as you do
Robbie, thanks for the awesome lesson video. You've made it pretty clear, so you're "teaching for transfer". I'm working on it. Keep up the good work.

On the intro don't you finger the third fret on the second (B) string? Sounds like it might be.
Yep! That's what I'm doing.
Hi Robbie been gone for a while,,,I love the old man,,,just having trouble with the chord connections
Good to see you Alan! Hopefully you'll be able to get it with some more practice. I'm sure you will!👍
As far as I can see, this video is the only one that you break down. All the rest are just you playing without any explanation. What good is that?
I'm sorry you only think this is the only one I've broken down.

Very well done 👊

Can someone post what the finger placement is on the intro, thanks
That chord that you start off with - what is it? 4th fret 4th string and 3rd fret (you say 2nd) 2nd string? :)
You are correct, when I say 2nd I mean string.. sorry about the confusion.
wow sweeeeeet
Nice Yamaha FG
Thank you!

Hey, I use Canva.com for those, Thanks!
Reminds me of Patrick Swazi song
looking for tabs
You're singing a 'mondegreen'......
Toby Keith sings...
'Don't let the old man in
I want to live me some more"
You don't want to "leave this alone"...
Hello i'm french. So sorry for my english. I have question.
Did you change the sound of strings? because me my guitar is EADGBE and you when you do the 6th string it's not the sound of E. Thanks
Hello, yes, this is in Drop D tuning so the 6th string is tuned to a D instead of E. Hope that helps, Thanks!
👍
2:20 is confusing because you said second string second fret but it sounds wrong
Sorry about that, I should have said 3rd fret there🙏
@@LearnGuitarFavoritessounds way better now, thanks

I probably did :)

Your playing the third fret second string. Not the 2nd fret 2nd string
I dont understand tuning down ??
Hey Mark, just tune the 6th string down to a D note instead of an E. I made a video on it and I'll have it out soon. Hopefully thay will help you. Thanks!
Thats a hard one to learn

Not his fault. Pony up the money and you never have to watch another one
Some of his chords look like .i. which is in penile shape. Confusing chords
really good teaching, thanks!
