    juan, what do you think of current flagship phones that move back to smaller main sensors (like the xiaomi 14 pro (1/1.31) or honor magic 6 pro (1/1.3) but with variable aperture? as a bokeh junkie i personally don't see a reason to use f4.0 and have to rely on f1.4 to get similar bokeh like the 13pro series or the magic 5 pro.
    or do i get something wrong?🤔

      Despite of slightly bigger battery Exynos S24 got 20% worser talk time than S23 in GSMArena's tests.
      And Techmo channel's side by side tests put it behind SD S24 also in general usage battery life.

      I wouldn't hesitate to rock a Xiaomi over here if the price was right. Yeah you're not getting full 5G or LTE bands but Xiaomi has had very dependable connectivity for me. Our Mi 11 Lite works very well. Now my Realme GT2 Pro definitely not so much. A lot of it is up to US cellular companies recognizing the phones software and Xiaomi is usually on the compatibility lists. But yeah I'm definitely sticking to OnePlus and Moto with their US specific offerings.

    I think that having a control center separate from the notifications is a good thing since you have direct access to any of them with just one swipe, depending where you swipe

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's what I dont like. If I'm holding a phone in my right hand, the reach to get to the left side is more action than just lazily swiping anywhere on the screen. Then getting the full panel of quick toggles is quicker doing the double swipe than changing directions to a lateral swipe, where if I'm too close to the edge of the screen it also acts as a back button.
      One simple action twice or two different actions with stricter tolerances for proper activation. Apple's design is simply not as good.

    I used the Xiaomi 13 for a while but I ended up selling it for the S23. Hardware wise it was much better, nicer pictures, longer battery life, faster charging and a display with no color banding (something that somehow no reviewer mentions, Samsung definitely does not have the best screens with 8 vs 12 Bit and no Dolby Vision). But I just thought MiOS was too ugly lol. It's the ios square icon shape and the overly large control center. I can't compromise on having small circle icon shapes with the Whicons icon pack and when using third party launchers to achieve that the gestures don't work. You can change that in the standard OneUi launcher. It's a small thing but if they add that feature to HyperOS I would switch instantly because other than that I noticed nothing bad. Oh and One Hand Operations+ is also something I wouldn't want to live without.

    I'm more of a software guy than hardware in the sense that I already know that if the software doesn't meet my needs it doesn't matter how good the hardware is. But I'm really tempted to buy a budget xiaomi, maybe a poco or redmi just to see what the software is like before I jump into spending $1,000+

    • @alfaindomart1766
      @alfaindomart1766 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Maybe depends on where you live, but here, Poco and Redmi phones have ads, while the Xiaomi or Mi series are free of them.
      If you can stomach ads or know how to remove them, they're great devices. But if no, then i recommend the T series (12T, 13T). They're cheaper than the flagship and still very sufficient for most tasks.

    • @joshuabergeman354
      @joshuabergeman354 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @alfaindomart1766 well I'm not really bothered about the ads and whatnot as I'm mostly interested in what the software is like to use. Ideally I would be able to go to a physical store to get that experience. But unfortunately the only way to get hands on a Xiaomi or Vivo is to just buy it. And I don't mind spending $1,000+ but I want to know that I'm going to get on with the software first. Which is why I'm considering a budget Xiaomi.

    • @arkhalis3682
      @arkhalis3682 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@arkhalis3682 that's completely valid and it's awesome that we have options that appeal to e everyone. It's also why I wish more of the Chinese brands sold here in the US at physical locations! So I could try them in person because as of now only Huawei has come close to giving me the software experience I'm looking for with the hardware excellence to match, and you know currently that's not an option in the US. But I'm reluctant to spend a lot of money when I don't know if it will meet my peculiar needs for software or not.

    +better cameras overall,
    +high resolution display,
    +superior battery life
    +Faster wired and wireless charging(charger in the box too)
    +IR Blaster, WIFI 7 and BT5.4
    -Miui/HyperOS is terrible android skin for a flagship device. And Xiaomi isnt very quick in terms of software updates and general support.
    -The other drawback is their pricing. They need to be priced lower to make them more attractive.

What makes me sad is that in the US, you have to import it and probably not have good support from carriers, if at all.

    @JuanBagnell, sadly the Xiaomi devices are missing bands that would make this device useless in certain areas. The device could be premium with all the bells and whistles but would be useless if the feature that the device is intended for does not work. Samsung and Apple are our only viable options in the US unfortunately.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. That's how regional distribution works in an era of 5G creating more consumer lock in.

      @@SomeGadgetGuy I appreciate the show casing of other countries tech but not only is this device missing 7 of 14 5G bands, it is also missing 2 of 13 4G bands. It would be beneficial to your viewers if this critical piece of information was made available to them in the event they are looking for an alternative to Apple or Samsung. It would suck to buy this device to only find out you are zero bars at certain areas in the US.

      Two minds right? Some folks see the brand and model number and want the same specs across all the phone sizes. Some folks want a smaller screen and are happy to pay more for poorer camera performance , battery life, and charging speed if the shell is a little smaller. There's no right answer.

    It's a decent phone overall, but big problem is that it's still Xiaomi. By that I mean no proper software update policy and not much promised in terms of how long it will be supported. IMO you completely underestimate importance of long software updates, because many people who buy expensive phone like that do actually care about longevity and perhaps expect to keep it for like 7-8 years or perhaps even longer. Samsung managed to do that, Apple too, Google not so well (they seemingly have software quality issues often), but Xiaomi is not on the same tier at all. It's a good phone right now and has hardware egde for lower price, all very good, but that really won't matter after 5 years, when Samsung would have all up to date software and this Xiaomi will be somewhat abandoned. And that slight hardware edge won't matter after like 7-8 years. IMO that is main reason why they seemingly pump out great flagships, but people are still somewhat leery of buying them. It would be great to see Xiaomi actually showing that they care about software, because they just haven't really shown that in many years. That's just why Xiaomi feels like cheaper phone company rather than legit Samsung or Apple competitor.

      Dude I'm using Android since Android 2.3. My backup phone - an Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is running Android 9 and it still runs all the latest applications that I run on my main phone - the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, just fine. My S20 FE 5G is on Android 13 for reference. And Xiaomi isn't abandoning your phone right away, it'll still get 3-4 years of major Android updates.
      Given the choice between long time Android OS updates vs much better hardware - I would choose hardware all day. Android OS updates are going to change anyways in the coming years with Google handling the major updates themselves.
