I grew up and was always exposed to American and European culture. Parasite introduced me to Korean Culture. As a (french) literature graduate, the movie fascinated me and it resonated to what I studied in literature classes. Then I saw BTS, they incorporate many genres of music : R&B, Rap, soul. Without BTS, I wouldn’t be able to really accept some of these genres in their original forms, because of the lyrics, the vulgarity of their MV, etc. Then I started to watch Korean drama series, which, true as you said, makes us view things from’m a different perspective.
Just before COVID-19, US movie studios refused to make anything other than superhero movies, which don't appeal to me. So I discovered Korean cinema. I found "Keys to the Heart", "In Our Prime" and "1987: When the Day Comes". My Blu-Ray/DVD player doesn't care about region codes, so I can get more K-cinema titles any time I want !!!
At the time, the US was criticised heavily for getting involved in the Korean war. No doubt South Korea has many flaws, but what a vibrant, dynamic culture compared with the absolute stagnation of North Korea.
Then, you should know "Cho Yong-phil " and "Seotaiji and Boys " to get a full understanding of contemporary K -pop, and Cho Yong-phil is my all time favourite K-pop singer.😄 You did a great job, Curious Muse! 👍 I learned a lot from this video. 🤩 I really appreciate you doing this ..
Would you consider making a BTS themed video story? Its .y understanding that BTS were the outcast and under dogs of Kpop music up until their huge global success. Id love to hear more of their story and how a group that defied the traditional kpop standards became the biggest kpop group in the world 🌎 💜
This video is terrifying, yet its implications seem to brush by unnoticed. Mass consumerism pushed by a government... Yikes. Very informative video, great job. Your content is actually very good and consise despite my disagreement on points.
Touch some grass. It's called capitalism and every respectable country has invested in it's art sector in order to create more demand for it's culture. From the United States to France, Japan and South Korea. Grow up and stop being a lonely loser that sits and gets terrified about the most basic things in the world. What's more terrifying is your attitude.
Just to say well to be expose with Japanese culture and all I could say I am in for K-BBQ Chicken and all I would say their is a lot to know about Korean culture notice difference all over the world. Yet I notice billboard of using picture of the PM of Japan next to Liancourt Rocks and the President of Nicaragua next to San Andres is also one type of activism against Japan on territorial claims leading Colombians living abroad to favor Korea on the Liancourt Rocks known as Dokdo because of Colombia and Nicaragua similar issues with San Andres. Just to say I am in favor of Japan getting into the doping culture in Sports to say all Japanese baseball players tested positive for steroids and beats South Korea in baseball by using steroid a and Japan never getting suspended by doping and keeps doping for going against South Korea and never gets punished. To see how is the reaction of Korea being cheated by Japan will go by and see the outcome?
What a nonsensical take lmao. Also, they're not "more successful" than Japan and they did introduce plenty of new things. First of all Japan cinema has fallen off a cliff ever since late 80s. Go and take that with Japan and not with SK. Second, Japan's anime/manga culture is a global cultural phenomenon still, an area where SK has no chance of competing in. J-Pop was and still is relevant, however, it never achieved true global success because Japan never sold it's music as a complete package. Which is what SK does differently. Japan fashion is still top tier, Tokyo being one of the most iconic fashion centers in the world. Japanese cuisine? Another top tier market. How about Japanese exclusive branded flavors for your average western products like Coca Cola and KitKat? Ah yes. Forgot about those. Just shut the fuck up and take a chill pill. Both countries are successful in the areas they continue to invest in.
Very stupid wishful thinking, it is not a myth anymore how bad it is after the 2030 World Expo bid result that has shown the non-popularity of Korean Kpop, Kdrama, "Gangnam Style"s' shake, shake, twist, twist, dance, and dance totally Westernized non -local boring cultures! Out of 165 votes Korea was 29 against its opponent Riyakh 119, despite the over 500 days to over 100 cities' desperate promotions with the all-out performance of all the popular Korean celebrities including one from the "Octopus Game". Who cares much about those now? Look as if only the Western countries are popping their allies up for wishful popularities. In recent years, there have been over 100 K Drama, and K Variety shows which have been completed and couldn't find any buyers. Korea's handphone, semiconductor, and car production are dying. The whole world is Laughing.

Thank you for the content! I'm a huge fan of k-culture!
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻 what part of k-culture is your favourite?
Thank you for this overview. I had little idea about k-culture and the reasons for its popularity before watching!
Oh, thank you so much! 😍

I’m hungry now 😂 clearly food is the most appealing aspect to me!
What type of Korean food 🍱 do you like?
@@CuriousMuse I’ve never tried any yet, because it’s only getting popular here in France, or at least not really easy to find. I’d love to try kimchi!
Good one! 😋👌🏻
Kimchi is my favorite staple Korean dish..😍 It's so tasty and it's healthy food, too. You can't go wrong with it😉
Wow! Curious Muse 🤩
At the time, the US was criticised heavily for getting involved in the Korean war. No doubt South Korea has many flaws, but what a vibrant, dynamic culture compared with the absolute stagnation of North Korea.
I would like to know more about kpop (music)!
That’s amazing - would you like us to make another video about the K-pop music?
Then, you should know "Cho Yong-phil " and "Seotaiji and Boys " to get a full understanding of contemporary K -pop, and Cho Yong-phil is my all time favourite K-pop singer.😄
You did a great job, Curious Muse! 👍
I learned a lot from this video. 🤩
I really appreciate you doing this ..

if it works if works.

Then you! What our points you’d most disagree with? We’d love to know! 👍🏻
Lol America has been doing this for the past 100 years.

It's surprising that they copied everything from Japan and somehow became more successful without introducing anything new.
That’s a very uninformed ignorant statement.
Mate, Japan had girl/boy bands making cute kitch pop back in 80 when most Koreans had bad breath from hunger.

if Japan work hard, 1500year later Japan make it who can give moving to people masterpiece real rock music.
If that's true, Japan must be more popular.
So, that is not true.

You know you're succeeding when you get hate comments like this.
