1st Greece 2nd Spain 3rd Hungary 4th Bosnia 5th Israel 6th Portugal 7th Sweden 8th Turkey 9th Cyprus 10th Denmark Hi thanks for sharing . Yeah Spain was fabulous.
1995 - this is where the great year streak starts. I really like a lot of entries here! Here's my top! 23. Russia 22. Germany 21. Croatia 20. Hungary 19. Slovenia 18. Austria 17. Portugal 16. Malta 15. Poland 14. Bosnia and Herzegovina 13. Belgium 12. Iceland 11. Greece 10. Turkey 9. Israel 8. Cyprus 7. Denmark 6. Sweden 5. Ireland 4. United Kingdom 3. France 2. Spain 1. Norway Honestly, it's a pity Spain had to participate in the year with one of the strongest winners ever. They would have easily won it in '92, '93 or '94 for me.
I totally agree about Spain. They definitely would be my winner in 1993 and 1994, and they probably would've been the actual winner in most of the 90s years as well perhaps without the English language bias.
This year had really grown in my estimation. I also like how RTÉ managed to make the hosting different every time! My points: 1p 🇮🇪 Ireland 2p 🇩🇰 Denmark 3p 🇦🇹 Austria 4p 🇭🇷 Croatia 5p 🇲🇹 Malta 6p 🇸🇮 Slovenia 7p 🇫🇷 France 8p 🇳🇴 Norway 10p 🇮🇱 Israel 12p 🇪🇸 Spain
Ah, 1995--the one in the dark. I feel like not many fans would appreciate this year, because it's so slow and lacks modern bops (Love City Groove, while not in my top ten, is dorky but cute). But I have a soft spot for this one, because the ones on top are amongst my favorite entries of all-time. (Also, we share the same last place--I feel bad because I know the singer is Svala's dad, but the song was just meh). Anyways: 1 pt: SLO 2 pt: ISR 3 pt: TUR 4 pt: POL (It's actually very cool! In my opinion, it's even better than To nie ja, though that may be because I never warmed to that in the first place. Also my second-favorite Polish entry after Ale jestem). 5 pt: ESP (I agree with you on the orchestration--it definitely featured one of the greatest transitions from the studio to live ever! How would've this changed Eurovision had it won?) 6 pt: FRA (I love this song so much! It's very flirty and cute, with a sick orchestration to boot. While Vuelve Conmigo had a bit more edge, I always have fun listening to this song.) 7 pt: DEN 8 pt: CYP - My favorite Cypriot entry ever! It's epic, it's determined, it's strong, it's well-orchestrated, wow. I love the lyrics as well; they tell a compelling story. 10 pt: NOR - We share the same placing for this song! I agree with everything you said about this song; it tells a story without (many) words, and has a compelling atmosphere. My second favorite winner ever and favorite Norwegian entry ever--why isn't this my winner? 12 pt: GRE - Because Pia Prosefhi also constructs its own atmosphere. From the Ancient Greek lyrics to the use of ethnic instruments, it's simultaneously spiritual and vulnerable. I love this so much, and is one of my two favorite Greek entries. it also catalyzed my love for the 1990s contests as a whole (also, we placed each other's winners in 6th place, haha!).
I've seen quite a few people put Norway 2nd, and it always seems to be with some sort of regret, like a song this good isn't even their winner! It's the case for me as well. Also, this is the greatest period of Eurovision for Poland that we'll ever get. They'll send the occasional great song, but never the 4-in-a-row masterpieces we got in the 90s.
It is said that all the Eurovisions in Dublin's Point Theatre (1988, 1994, 1995, 1997) had varying degrees of dark backgrounds in order to make them look wider.
My top 23: 10/10: 1. Nocturne 🇳🇴 2. Fra mols til Skagen 🇩🇰 3. Sti fotia 🇨🇾 9/10: 4. Il me donne rendez-vous 🇫🇷 5. Die welt dreht sich verkehrt 🇦🇹 6. Pia prosefhi 🇬🇷 7. Sama 🇵🇱 8/10: 8. 1995 was a very good year, with a lot of memorable songs! 23- I think I can agree here. Very boring 22- I like this, it's sweet and very Swedish 21- I'm not too keen on this 20- I think his voice is amazing but the song isn't all that 19- Quite forgettable 18- I think it's sweet, very relaxing 17- Huge robbery, never deserved last 16- I love this as well, very current feel to it 15- The Daddy is decent for Russia 14- I like his voice and the glasses 13- Not for me, I don't like her voice 12- My favourite, I love the whole mysterious kind of staging. It works so well 11- Our entry, what a complete waste of 3 minutes. I'm not a rap fan 10- I love how relaxed this me. The banjo is so nice 9- I love her voice, the song is great 8- Unpopular opinion, I found this boring 7- This is very dramatic but it's good 6- A calming entry from Greece 5- Shouty girls from Croatia who bugged me from the first note 4- This gets too annoying and repetitive quickly 3- Ouch! My ears! I hate this 2- It is beautiful and different 1- A great song and I love her voice
Im surprised you've placed Polish entry this high on the list. It feels so obnoxious that jury didnt give Justina much recognition on the stage. She deserved better! 😢
My winner in 1995 was 'Dreamin'', but... I've learned today that this is a copy of 'Moonlight' (Julie Felix). And yes, it really is! So my best of 95 are: Cyprus, Norway, Israel, Iceland and... 'Moonlight' (Ireland)
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands 12 points: Norway - Secret Garden - Nocturne 10 points: Turkey - Arzu Ece - Sev 8 points: United Kingdom - Love City Groove - Love City Groove 7 points: Spain - Anabel Conde - Vuelve conmigo 6 points: Greece - Elina Konstantopoulou - Pia prosefhi 5 points: Slovenia - Darja Svajger - Prisluhni mi 4 points: Sweden - Jan Johansen - Se pa mig 3 points: Malta - Mike Spiteri - Keep me in mind 2 points: Germany - Stone & Stone - Verliebt in dich 1 point : France - Nathalie Santamaria - Il me donne rendez vous

1988 wasn’t the Point Theatre but rather RDS Simmonscourt (same venue as 1981).
I stand corrected.
