Hello again. How is your coop coming along? I'm at the point where I need to start building mine and have been watching yours. I hope to make a Craftsman style. I can't find anything on that as far as details. I'm feeling the way you were in this episode. I have basic construction skills but I don't know what I'm doing as I think my project is a bit above my level. Was thinking to do it like carolina coops but I'm also in FL and I think your poles in the ground framing is better for our hurricanes, but harder. Basically I'm scared to even start and haven't made the initial decisions of how to even start. Plus the off set roof. Lots to figure out. Hope you finish and get chickens. I have extras again that need homes.
How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time. I'm not going to sugar coat it, it is a very difficult project that will take a lot of time and cost about $6,000 if you copy mine exactly. That said, you should watch the entire series and ask yourself this question: Is there any ONE step that you don't think you can do? If not, then: Bon Appetit :)
@@HomesteadEngineering The roof will be the hardest thing. I've never worked with metal before. Also it will be so high up. I need a bigger ladder than what I have. Those parts when I think of them make me nervous. The cost doesn't scare me so much. I can tackle that week by week. But tht's way way better than 30k or more to have Carolina Coops do it for me.
@@ScaryFear The key to the metal is to have them cut it to fit at the factory. Then all you have to do is host it up there and screw it down. Aside from the big cash savings I like looking out at the coop and knowing: I built that! :)
@@HomesteadEngineering I have 5 new babies. We lost one baby. In Indiana I have to buy 6 at a time. Out of my 3 older chickens I get one to two a day. My older ones are 2 to 3 years old. Sometimes chickens die for no know reason and a couple of them got cot by a hawk.. hawks love breast meat. So becareful if they free range.
