    The windows aren't on the website yet....bummer. I want to know how much. And I want to know how big of a rough opening they will need. I am remodeling an old shed into a coop and there are 2 windows that don't open that need replacing. There is some rot that needs dealt with too.

    Now all you need to do is add a shock like they use on motor home doors. I did this to my coop and it works awesome. Forget the dowels that's too time-consuming and awkward.

    Cool concept but i'd reverse everything .. keep the poly glass on the inside with all the screws and router the window pane frames with a 1/4" bit like traditional frames

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, we originally did that with our older designs, but with the windows open a lot we found water was catching in the frame and affecting the wood. We find that having the polycarbonate on the outside, the water will just run off especially since our windows are predator proof, they are open most of the time. Thanks for your comments!

    • @matttafakt
      @matttafakt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarolinaCoopsVideos Use copper coat wood preservative and latex/silicon sealant and you wont have any issues. I always use copper coat when cutting pressure treated wood. You have to seal the cuts because pressure treated wood is only protected about 1/4" deep. So every cut needs to protected with a new coat of copper coat. I understand what you mean about water getting down and in-between the poly and the wood. Problem solved copper coat an then using sealant like latex modified silicon or aircraft quality 3m type strips tape. No mildew or water issue's with this method :) cheers

    • @matttafakt
      @matttafakt ปีที่แล้ว

      I also want to add that it's important to be able to remove the glass when it comes time to re-paint the frames in the future .. and this makes it easy. I also run screws on the crosses of each pane which makes the frames much stronger. Would love to show you my design if you guys are interested? Might wanna look into aircraft poly window seal methods. They use a unique type of strip seal. Cheers :)

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matttafakt Hi, we don't treat/paint our windows generally, the customers do the finishing. Also our coops are made with Douglas fir lumber, the only pressure treated part is the base that makes ground contact.
      We are building and shipping out so many coops, we are working hard for the increasing demand and keeping prices down. After over a decade, we have found that this design works best for our customers and us. We appreciate your comments and don't disagree with you, just for our scale of business we find this works best. Thank you for watching.

    • @matttafakt
      @matttafakt 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only suggest using copper coat on the pressure treated wood where any cuts were made. The aviation 3M type tape strips are only for the poly glass to prevent water intrusion if you were to mount the poly on the inside vs the outside. Btw, where i live on the West Coast, most if not all PT wood is Douglas Fir. I love DG Fir :) Cheers@@CarolinaCoopsVideos
