    Thank you for watching the video 🙏🏻 To my surprise I found out that a lot of people think that you should soak beans, nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains only for the purpose of softening them before cooking. So I decided to make this video to tell why I'm soaking my beans :) I hope you find this information helpful. 🌺

      Do you recommend drying the nuts in the oven after you have soaked them or let them dry on their own?

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ostojanka3611
      You should eat them right away, or make milk or butter out of them, and keep them in the fridge for the rest of the day. You should not let them dry on their own.
      They can be slow roasted in the oven if you like them that way or dehydrated using a dehydrater. But the roasting process by itself removes a good amount of anti-nutrients, even though it’s not as effective as soaking.
      Alot of people find it to be too much hassle to soak and dehydrate/roast nuts and seeds.
      Usually I soak nuts and eat them, make milk, or process them another way. If I don’t finish soaked nuts and seeds during that day I incorporate them in my evening meal by cooking them (rice, quinoa, curry, etc.). If I want to make nut butters, granola, etc., I just roast the nuts without prior soaking.
      The verdict is, eat your nuts and seeds soaked (the best 👍 🌟) or roasted (ok 👌) , but not raw 👎.

    Very well explained, and in detail! 👍🏼
    If I want to store almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc. after soaking them overnight, how do I dry them without a dehydrator?
    -and can legumes be also dried and stored, likewise?
    -for how long can it be stored?
    -can dry fruits like raisins and figs be consumed without soaking?
    -(if no, then how much to soak them, how to dry and store?).

    Is it necessary to soak flaxseed as well?

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Flax seeds don't require soaking and dehydrating in order to use them… as you do with nuts and seeds. Flax seeds indeed need to either be soaked or ground to get all the nutrients from them, but what approach you use will depend on how you are using them in recipes.
      Do flax seeds have phytic acid? Yes.
      Similar to other seeds, flax seeds contain phytic acid. Still, phytic acid in flax seeds doesn't cause any lasting reduction in mineral absorption and does not affect any subsequent meals.

    Does soaking make them less crunchy? Also why are we removing skin of almonds?

    What about dehydration? Don't you have to dry them out in the oven in order to store?

    After soaking, can i still roast them after they are dried?

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing 👍🏻 They can be slow roasted in the oven. But the roasting process by itself removes a good amount of anti-nutrients, even though it’s not as effective as soaking.

    If I only have lemon but not salt, can the salt alone help with this process? Is there a particular type of salt that is best? Thanks

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Role of Salt
      Enhances Water Penetration: Salt can help soften the hard outer layers of grains and legumes more efficiently, allowing water to penetrate more effectively. This softening process reduces cooking time and can improve texture.
      Mineral Availability: A pinch of salt can slightly alter the pH of the soaking water, which may aid in the breakdown of phytic acid, a natural substance found in plant seeds. Phytic acid binds to minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc, making them less available to our bodies. Reducing phytic acid can therefore increase the bioavailability of these minerals.
      The Role of Lemon Juice
      Acidic Environment: Lemon juice, being acidic, further assists in breaking down phytic acid. The acidity can help to initiate the breakdown of enzyme inhibitors present in these foods, which can otherwise interfere with our digestive enzymes and make digestion more difficult.
      Enhances Nutrient Absorption: The acidic medium can also promote the conversion of some nutrients into more bioavailable forms. For example, it can increase the availability of certain antioxidants and vitamins.
      Promotes Beneficial Fermentation: Although not fermentation in the traditional sense, the slight acidity from lemon juice can encourage the growth of beneficial microorganisms present on the surface of these foods. These microorganisms can pre-digest some of the complex sugars, reducing gas and bloating often associated with consuming these foods.
      Synergistic Effects
      The combination of salt and lemon juice creates an environment that is not just about softening these foods but also enhancing their nutritional profile and digestibility. The salt facilitates water absorption and mineral availability, while the lemon juice contributes to the breakdown of phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. Together, they create a more favorable condition for our digestive system and improve the overall nutritional benefits of consuming beans, nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains.

    Does soaking beans/legumes reduce oxalates?

    I always wondered why we should soak beans, nuts, etc. most of the time I just skip this step. Also, it's kind of bad I guess but I usually buy them canned. What do you think of canned products?

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is always better to avoid canned goods, if possible. But once you start making dishes from raw ingredients (like properly soaked and cooked beans, legumes, grains...) you will see the difference, firstly, in the way they taste, and then the way your body feels thereafter. Personally, I wouldn't have canned beans even if they were free :)

    How much does doing this save you? I've been trying to transition to more eco-friendly living while doing better for my body AND saving money. Is this worth it in terms of cost?

    • @positivepranic
      @positivepranic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never thought about calculating the amount of money that would save, 🤔 but I'm sure it is quite a bit. For me it is like putting price on my health and well-being.
      But it is not just that, the taste is absolutely different. I'm a big lover of hummus, for example. I would never have store-bought hummus or hummus made of canned chickpeas (not like I never tried one, I did for sure). It is really such a huge difference in taste. Plus the way I feel after I eat beans, legumes and grains after they have been properly processed prior to cooking is day and night.

      If you’re trying to save money you should definitely by raw beans and soak them. Just see how much a can of beans cost vs raw beans. You not only save money but you save your life. 🙏🏻
