Public schools should offer tutoring and good after school and weekend sports and social clubs. Neighborhood watch meetings alongside the PD to get acquainted and build trust, discuss plans of action to combat the gang issues and recruitment rate etc.. The smaller business have been pushed out by theft and violence. It would be fantastic to bring them back to provide PT jobs for teens and some financial stability to keep them busy and out of the cycle of wanting to make fast money dealing on the corners. The school age kids are already walking home in a yellow taped off route with a cop on every other block in an attempt to keep them safe. A much needed program that would enable the PD and youth to interact positively together. Bring back McGruff and the old school officer friendly into the grammar schools which in turn would build solid relationships that can offer advice and tactics to say No to drugs and No to joining gangs. Bring back big brother and sister programs There are so many wonderful things that can (at the very least) be attempted in an effort to make incredible changes and in turn possibly make a huge impact on our youth and society.. Many of these teens are lost and victims of their own personal choices. Without stability and guidance, what else is available beside the streets and adults that teach them and use them for no good? It's incredibly heartbreaking. Especially the innocent adults, small children and others who end up getting victimized by random violence or murdered by stray bullets in drive bye shootings. The gangs are very protective of their territories because of drug sales, prostitution etc. They literally shoot at each other from across the street. Something has to be done. First and foremost Mayor Lightfoot and Governor Pritzker absolutely must be voted out. A new administration needs to come in and stop the corruption along with sad excuses and ridiculous nonsense policies that have no impact. Our gun laws in Chicago are extremely strict. It changes absolutely nothing. I remain hopeful and optimistic that things will and can change. We need to be in this together, stand strong as proud Chicagoans that I know we are...
