I had a double take when I saw this in my notifications. This is my second favorite game series ever. Right below The Elder Scrolls. I've played & 100%ed this game and the third over 100 times each, no exaggeration. As someone who has OCD & likes to collect, likes structure, animals/bugs/nature, and is a fellow perfectionist & completionist, this game series is the best of the best.
"Less stressful than Pikmin 1" . Uh, yeah, you're not gonna mention anything about regenerating Gatling Groings and Bulbears, random falling rocks and bombs, and inept Pikmin AI that constantly trip and fall over and the nightmare fuel that is the Waterwriath?
I'm really hoping this video sparks a bit of inspiration for people to play these games. these games are great and I'm still waiting for Pikmin 4. great video, Jirard!
Louie is basically the real main antagonist in the Pikmin series, and I honestly think that's hilarious and charming. I love the King of Bugs- I mean, Louie.
I still think the first Pikmin is my favourite one - the 30 day time limit added real urgency which meant the game was constantly engrossing. I guess the caves in Pikmin 2 were an attempt to put a different kind of pressure on the player, where you're not limited by time but by the number of Pikmin you have (since you can't make new pikmin in a cave). It's a reasonable idea in principle, but as you say the caves are somewhat monotonous so overall I don't think it worked. Pikmin 3 has the best approach in theory imo. There's no time limit, but the 'treasures' you gather double up as food which the crew needs to eat. Unfortunately, this also didn't work as well as it could have done because it was too easy to collect a huge stockpile of food which removes the pressure. At 5:30 - is this actually canon?! I always just thought it was present day Earth (albeit with weird creatures) and you happen to not see any humans. I also didn't know that Louie ate the golden carrots, that movie sounds like a great unlockable to me!
Louie did the best he could. We've all been there: young, inexperienced employees, needing someone to lead us by the hand. Olimar never gave up on him, and neither should you.
Are... are you kidding? It's implied that the started the whole thing ON PURPOSE. His treasure entry made things click for me. I got my own theory on that turd.
This game is one of the best games of my childhood for a variety of reasons. - The piklopedia and all of Olimar's entries on each intractable creature (and Louie's tips in how to eat them). The sales pitches are neat too. -The music. Oh my gosh I LOVE the soundtrack in this game, from the peaceful and relaxing hymns in the first three areas and the piklopedia, to the epic boss music, to the suspenseful vibes you get from wistful wild, to the themes of the final boss. -the maps are essentially all but one of the maps from the last game (wistful wild is the first and final area from Pikmin 1 that have been merged together and given a cool autumn look (I love how the cave that the final boss is in also is in the exact same spot you find the first ship part in the first game, and paired with Wistful Wild's theme it further adds to the "ends where it all began" feel.) -the caves are a great addition.....except for Submerged Castle, even though it does a good job rocking its horror theme. F*** that underwater den of nightmares. You still have a clock over your head since the boss will appear after 5 minutes on the floor you're currently on. Well, at least the cool upgrades you get are great -the pvp mode, which I had a blast doing with my family The bosses were a blast to battle, with my favorite being the man-at-legs. I loved the video, loved the game, I'm really glad that you decided to play it however i do have one gripe, you mentioned that sometime the cave generation makes it so that you cant progress without losing a pikmin, this isnt true, while difficult it isnt impossible. Before entering a cave you can see all of the possible hazards and plan what types of pikmin you need to bring to get through, it is much less likely you'll lose pikmin to the cave generation than to the random ass falling bomb rocks.
Admittedly it is easy to miss or forget that they were fire resistant in the first game. Since it was only useful for 1 area and could be generally bypassed unlike the water sections.
Okay, side note. I love how after you kill a boss and since you cant pick up the treasure before the cutscene, the pikmin most of the time swarm around the boss and then the boss is gone in the cutscene so they're carrying nothing and looks like they're holding hands.
Gotta be honest I loved Louie as this dopey mysterious counterpart to Olimar. Olimar even describes Louie in some of his journals as barely there, as if Olimar is just alone as he was before. Plus, he wrote an entire cook book on his trip, and it was hilarious. Surprised you didnt mention it!
This game's challenge mode gave people the mentality of resetting after one death (me included), but after ordering the Wii version, I've been better about it and not relying on Purples all the time.
I'm not sure which is cooler: the Big Bad Bosses reference right at the end, or the fact that someone actually took the time to create a mini Bowser figurine. Well done!
Louie DOES have some...interesting application to the Journals of Pikmin 2. he attempts to make a cookbook out the bestiary. of course, there are several creatures that even he finds totally inedible for one reason or another.
Jirard, thank you so much for everything you do. This is one of my favorite games of all time and I’ve been waiting for you to do it for years. You are an amazing TH-camr. Keep up the great work!
Louie actually does give his own descriptions of monsters in the game- but from a cooking perspective. It really adds to his ... 'character' in the sense he's a layabout who enjoys food a little too much. The descriptions were by far the most charming part of the game, and I remember the impact it left on me years later.
His treasure entry is what shocked me. Is it possible that the started the events of the game, because he has a bond with insects or whatever? Heck, it's implied he even controlled the final boss! I never liked Louie, and that conspiracy solidifies it.
Nicely done with the video, Jirard. Gotta say, Pikmin 2 was my favorite between it and the first game, and I've yet to play Pikmin 3. The lack of a strict time limit made it a far more relaxing ride as a whole, even if it left you stuck with LOUIE. Keep up the great work, good sir.
Thank you completion I have been waiting a long time for this. good luck beating Picmen3 if you ever try because the final boss is very hard. I really love your work keep it up
The time limit for the first game made sense as Olimar only had so much time before running out of resources. The second game getting rid of that mechanic was a welcomed one and I enjoyed really exploring everywhere in Pikmin 2. That game even after beating it had me wanting to explore more. The challenges were great. I love pikmin 2. Best pikmin in my opinion. I would argue that the caves were made that way so that it felt really rewarding to get back to the top once you overcame it. Seeing the same thing over and over, wanting to just get out....makes sense to me. It's an unknown scary place with multiple levels and you don't know how far it goes...
You know what game has a Pikmin-esque mini game where you command large crowds to do things for you? Yakuza Kiwami 2. You know what game is in the same franchise as Yakuza Kiwami 2? Yeah, you know.
Can't wait till you play Pikmin 3 Deluxe. It was my starting point to the series, and I'm interested in how you compare it to the rest of the games. For reference, there's 3 variations of the same ending, 66 pieces of fruit to collect (replacing treasures and ship parts), 36 mission mode levels, 14 side story missions, which are both ranked from bronze to platinum, and a local multiplayer Bingo Battle mode. While I've gotten perfect rankings on the Side Story levels, I still haven't on some of the missions. They're tough, and require you to multitask between the 3 different captains you control.
Louie gets even worse when you read the Titan Dweevil's Piklopedia entry and it reveals that the Titan Dweevil is actually a benign and peaceful creature. It was being controlled by Louie, who was deliberately trying to murder both Olimar and the President as they came to rescue him. Louie is the primary antagonist of Pikmin 2.
As someone who's been replaying Pikmin 2 since they were a kid, it's actually gotten pretty easy to play the majority of the game without losing a single Pikmin! The only exception is the final boss that kidnapped Louie. That boss is just..... *shivers*
Thanks for doing Pikmin 2, it was a blast to hear back from a game I haven’t played in a long time and I agree, F Louie. 😂 But more importantly, thanks for hooking me up a year ago on the Messenger, which led to me buying the physical copy when I learnt the studio was local to my home town. That led me to go to the release party of said physical copy last Friday to get the game signed and realize that Thierry and I were high school buddies. I was already proud that a game like that was developed by a small local team, I’m even prouder to learn it was created by a long lost friend. Thanks for what you’re doing through the show and keep on completing
Have you done pikmin 3 deluxe yet?? Watching you with my partner throughout this whole covid phase. Honestly would off watched more off your videos than actually playing games. However still makes me appreciate games and also keeps me feeling young. (Turning 32 this year)
I loved this game as a kid. Due to an injoke that I can´t really fathom anymore a friend of mine and I would play this game every year on the same day, to play the multiplayer. He would take all the pikmin with him while I went out with Loui to beat up all the non flying monsters with my bare hands! We would also spend hours just watching the creatures in the Piklopedia while the relaxing music played. It´s like the nature channel! Also funny is the fact that Loui has log entries to every single creature but they are all cooking recipes! Like how to grill or prepare those things and honestly, a lot of those sounded delicious.
I remember commenting on your Pikmin 1 review ages ago telling you how much I enjoyed 100%ing Pikmin 2 and glad my wait is finally over. I hope you had tons of fun with this game and can't wait to see you try out Pikmin 3 (and 4 whenever that comes out)
I know that Stephen and Mal had a hard time completing the main game... they are dramatized by it... Though found playing through the challenges and multiplayer a lot more fun. Also Louie does have some purpose. He tells you about how to cook the enemies of Pikmin 2 and how they taste. I believe it's a completion bonus for saving Louie.
Oh no, I absolutely agree, peaceful, easy, relaxing games are really nice to play from time to time. I never played the first Pikmin; never owned it, and I barely heard anything about Pikmin 2, so I had assumed it wasn't as good. These days, I'm interested in the series, but getting hold of a playable copy isn't the easiest thing to do.

Jirard: *THE LIFE OF A COMPLETIONIST CAN BE STRESSFUL; LOCKED IN A ROOM...*
2 spoopy 4 me
I'm not sure which is cooler: the Big Bad Bosses reference right at the end, or the fact that someone actually took the time to create a mini Bowser figurine. Well done!
7:28 They always were.
Louie DOES have some...interesting application to the Journals of Pikmin 2.
he attempts to make a cookbook out the bestiary. of course, there are several creatures that even he finds totally inedible for one reason or another.
All that hate for Louie but no mention of how he was technically the final boss.
Jirard, thank you so much for everything you do. This is one of my favorite games of all time and I’ve been waiting for you to do it for years. You are an amazing TH-camr. Keep up the great work!
If you ever complete pikmin 3 it'd be awesome to see you collab with Chuggaconroy
they did have a bingo battle game together iirc, so it's not so farfetched.
Jirard can you complete the other paper Mario games and the Mario and Luigi games (including remakes)
Do Pikmin 3.
*he doesn't know about Louies vast knowledge on how to properly cook gourmet meals out of every enemy in the game*
Like if Pikmin 2 is better than Pikmin 1
Great Vid guys, love the shorter form content and I’m glad you had a relaxing time completing one of my favorite childhood classics
I saw that it was pikmin 2, and before even starting the video, my heart hurt for you
Just met The Completionist at Pax today and boom! Here’s his new video! He’s so nice and it was so awesome to get to chat!!

Lurking in the comments to see if Arlo was here
Thank you completion I have been waiting a long time for this. good luck beating Picmen3 if you ever try because the final boss is very hard. I really love your work keep it up
Pikmin 4 anyone ?
Yes please
BEST COMMENT PIN COMMENT. NEED THIS
YES
What does?
I mean what franchise
I’ve legit, have been waiting for this for over a year, it’s my favourite game. Thank you
What about Louie's Food Notes and the Bulbmin?
Louie gets even worse when you read the Titan Dweevil's Piklopedia entry and it reveals that the Titan Dweevil is actually a benign and peaceful creature. It was being controlled by Louie, who was deliberately trying to murder both Olimar and the President as they came to rescue him. Louie is the primary antagonist of Pikmin 2.
Remember the secret Loui boss fight?
Thanks for covering one of my favorite games
As someone who's been replaying Pikmin 2 since they were a kid, it's actually gotten pretty easy to play the majority of the game without losing a single Pikmin!
The only exception is the final boss that kidnapped Louie. That boss is just..... *shivers*
Thanks for doing Pikmin 2, it was a blast to hear back from a game I haven’t played in a long time and I agree, F Louie. 😂
But more importantly, thanks for hooking me up a year ago on the Messenger, which led to me buying the physical copy when I learnt the studio was local to my home town.
FINALLY! I've been waiting for Pikmin 2! Hopefully, you'll do Pikmin 3 and Hey! Pikmin as well
Please do Pikmin 3 before 4 comes out this year! It’s one of my fav games of all time!
Is anyone going to tell him that Louie is supposed to be the antagonist?
I love that you completed this! One of my favorites.
I actually played all Pikmin games (Hey! Pikmin too) just now back to back for the first time and man was I missing out. Every game has it's own feeling and atmospere! I want MORE!
I didn’t grow up with pikmin but I did grow up playing the Overlord franchise a whole lot which is basically pikmin’s older and more violent brother
Such a great game to review! This was one of the best Christmas presents I ever got as a kid filled with so many memories. Also it got me addicted to carmex lol
Jirard forgot that Red Pikmins were always inmune to Fire.
PK SMASH! Fire isn’t the most dangerous hazard in Pikmin 1
@@thefreelancequeen neither in 2, Electricity is Bullshit and instakills, Fire is just like water, blow your wissle and they are ok.
Ok few things,
The ship names the treasures not Olimar (and makes the item descriptions I believe). Though Olimar does do the flora and fauna entries.... Louie tells you how to cook them.
Red Pikman where always fireproof.
... thats it, thanks.
Pikmin 3 is yet another great game that too many people missed! Remind my why there isn't a switch port yet?
Wait and see.
