Yeah this certainly isn't the warble that they're known for but is still a call that they use alongside their warble to try to wake me up when I'm trying to have a nap 😅
Cute thought and I'm sure she would come straight back inside and hop on my lap if I let her! (I think it's a she...the back doesn't look as pure white off camera but I could be wrong)
I hear maggies making calls of a similar pitch at dusk. It must be their way of telling their neighbours _"This is my territory and I'm going to sleep. Good night!"_
One of ours came to the door. Didn’t want food but she was gibbering away. Had something to tell us. I’m guessing there’s an egg or two from the boss male and a new female to the group. They haven’t been over for about 5days. Just the juvenile female and the other male.
Have you thought of buying/making them toys for the magpie or/and kookaburra? Kind of like obstacle course to challenge their mental capacity for stimulation. At this point you are like a magpie/kookaburra whisper. :)
That's a great idea! I haven't thought much about it and I only invest minimal time into this chanel while I'm trying to write up a PhD 😅 But I appreciate the advice and will have a think about it!
I'm surprised you haven't tried to experiment with bird calls, to see what kind of reactions you can get by mimicking the magpy's or the kookaburras sounds
I believe and please don't quote me on this as my magpie is a little rusty, They are saying, give me treats, give me treats, please, give me treats (lower tone), please (lower tone) :D Thank you for the video :D
I like their warbling call the best. :) Ozzy Man used one of your clips in his latest review on Kookaburras, I gave ya a shout-out in the comments so hopefully you get a few new visitors.
I played this sound to a random magpie and then the magpie stopped foraging in the grass and then lifted its head and flew up and towards and past me as i was still playing the magpie call
I believe these calls are family contact calls? I noticed Maggies doing this before it gets dark and I think they're calling out to their family members to return to the nest? 🤔
Yes same one! Friday was actually it's first appearance in awhile. This is my favourite magpie and didn't visit me for months because another female scares her away. But now she's back and wants to pick a fight with everyone. Which reminds me, I need to post the video of the first time we saw eachother after months apart.
There's nothing in the world quite like the sound of a full family of Magpies carolling together. Our ravens don't sound much like northern hemisphere ones either. ;)
he wants to serenade you in hopes of tasty treats
I love the magpie call, it's so unique
Yeah this certainly isn't the warble that they're known for but is still a call that they use alongside their warble to try to wake me up when I'm trying to have a nap 😅
They do not sound like that here in Europe. These calls are amazing though! Here, they sound really raspy.
@@Justusson on this channel I learned that the Australian magpie isn’t related to the European one. It is not even a member of the crow family.
@@jannetteberends8730 Really? They look almost exactly the same, interestingly enough. What birds are they then? :)
@@Justusson songbirds. (according to Wikipedia)
I lave their calls ❤
Amazing sound, really!
This is a sound of an Australian bird!! 🥰
And this isn't even their lovely iconic sound that they're known for!
Ahh... He sounds a bit sad! Maybe he wants you to read him a bedtime story!
Cute thought and I'm sure she would come straight back inside and hop on my lap if I let her! (I think it's a she...the back doesn't look as pure white off camera but I could be wrong)
I think that i startled the bird with me playing the recorded magpie broadcasting his or hers communication to its family to come home perhaps
Thank you for showing these soothing songbirds.
I love the sound of magpies in the morning 🥰
Aaah...i love the sound these birds make!
So cute and funny.
Thank you for this birthday present.
Happy Birthday!!! 😊❤
Gefeliciteerd!
I wish magpies in the UK sang like this.
Beautifull voice 😍
Such complex and wonderful little birds ❣️
Aww, poor birby!
I hear maggies making calls of a similar pitch at dusk. It must be their way of telling their neighbours _"This is my territory and I'm going to sleep. Good night!"_
The most normal sound I've heard a magpie do
Sounds like he's doing his winding down getting ready for bed song. Beautiful baby.
I love when they make these sounds, it’s so cute 🥰
"My spot! My human! My food!"
Intelligent Magpie communicating with u 🐦💓
Nice bird
In my area, currawongs usually call at 6-7pm

He’s calling his mate.
Surprisingly peaceful ngl
That's a contact call to the other members of the family.
I wasn't expecting a video today! Thanks for the awesome surprise!!
Happy to hear!! 😊
Love it. You’re so lucky (:
Jurasoc BORB.
now that I think about it does kinda sound like r2-d2
Magpie translation : O Lord, hear my complaint. I haven't got enough likes on TH-cam. Come on humans make me a TH-cam star.
I wonder if she is now a mum with not yet an adult son or daughter that is recipient of her call before dusk time
It’s sad that people discriminate here birds that make me sceard to feed it
I really want to start getting trust from these beautiful animal
"Afternoon....Afternoon?....ok fine..........uh well....never mind. "
Poor Girl, she's calling her lover 💔... 😑
Unlike us they have the ability to show empathy, th-cam.com/video/DSqd3RaTrTE/w-d-xo.html They can love unconditionally...
I often hear this call when they're on their own.
Maybe it's to attract their mate or bring other Maggies in?
He looks and sounds a bit lonely

@@BackyardBirdsofAustralia Nice! Best of everything to your studies. :)
Possibly better than those loud white bellbirds. At least with a magpie, you won't get bursted eardrums.
AWWWWWWW

🤣
Can I use this for a school project XD
Sure! What's the project?
@@BackyardBirdsofAustralia OMG THX yes umm it’s for a project for mg English think we have to make a audio tour for school
Good luck! I hope it all goes well 🙂
He hasn’t had his coffee yet 😔
May she would like to say is her territory. Blue is doing the same some time. Have a voice record in hes last video.
Hey if they have white leading into grey on the back of the head it a female . and if it's a male it's just plain white :) (hope this helps you:))
I like their warbling call the best. :)
Ozzy Man used one of your clips in his latest review on Kookaburras, I gave ya a shout-out in the comments so hopefully you get a few new visitors.
Yeah I always forget to get videos of their classic warble because it's so normal for us aussies.
And thanks so much! Really appreciate it a lot 😊
I played this sound to a random magpie and then the magpie stopped foraging in the grass and then lifted its head and flew up and towards and past me as i was still playing the magpie call
It's true that it is accurate to state it as it was stated in the title of this video in my opinion
Literally just same
I believe these calls are family contact calls?

🤔
Not sure! 🙂
It’s a bit asking/complaining.
Is this the same as the magpie on Friday?

Sounds so peculiar, the magpies here in Scandinavia just make Caw sounds.
There's nothing in the world quite like the sound of a full family of Magpies carolling together.

Calling to it's mate or singing for you?
I'm really not sure!
i amh fien dis is just da noise i maek sumbtiems... keeyeeook
А чё это за птица?)
Magpie
Don't fall for it. It's probably calling for reinforcements. Food raid incoming.
🤣
@@BackyardBirdsofAustralia Did you get more visitors after this video?, a few feathery friends looking for a free feed?🤣
@@MrRicksta76 I think it was past birdy bedtime after that
@@BackyardBirdsofAustralia That sounds like a great idea for another video. Record a bird falling asleep in your lap, would be super cute too. 😋
