So very awesome. I hear it in your voice going "I did it." "I did it." Hell yes you did it and I'm probably not the only one out there that is both stoked for ya and a little envious. good job.
+elvisshakesit inspiration for others including myself. If you cannot find one build one. Also I really need some train horns or whistles if you will. Neighbors will love me. Probably the neighborhood and I'm sure someone will call in complaints by the second or third testing of it.
go down to an old ship yard you might find one there or if not build one and they will come-who they are might not be who you want but some one will call on you -good luck
I never get tired of looking at and sometimes participating in projects such as this. Take an old stadium style light fixture (appears to be MARS Brand) invert it, few 'C' Clamps, wiring, build a chopper base and rotor, the n the top looks like the internal reflector of the former light fixture and now being used as a protective cover for the motor assembly. Damn, I love it. I also noted the excitement in your voice saying, "I DID IT!" Building that siren was not easy and was time consuming with a good thinking brain behind it. Who ever you are, I would be proud of you for doing what you have obviously achieved.
well thanx and your right about the protective covers and its an old 1947-53 crouse-hinds light fixture off an old fishing boat and it did take a lot of figuring since there are no plans to build one so i wanted one and i figured it out but thanx for seeing it from your point of view because its all the truth
Oh my gosh, that sounds AMAZING! Great build! Here's what you need to do... bolt it to your car or truck, wire it to your throttle with some kind of resistor, then drive around sounding like you have 1500 horse power at 10,000 rpm! The slow spool up is a plus... sirens are best when they start low and take some time to go bat-shit mental. It's the build up that expresses a sense of barely restrained power. Maybe you can publish the specs/ blueprints since the pitch/SPL/tone etc are fantastic and better than most!
it took about 80 hours or so and i live in alaska and shipping is outrageous here so i decided if they could do it in the 40's i could do it now so i looked on here if anyone was restoring one seen how it was put together and figured it out and wahlah it worked thanx for liking it
it took along time to figure it all out and they dont make the lights anymore which is from 1947 but im going to build a gas powered one next but thanx for the like
HOLY CRAP ITS LOUD! Sounds great! Congradulations on making it. I am gonna make one out of wood, I have seen one like that before by someone else. I have a nice big 3600 RPM motor, should work quite nicely. Il just test it when all the other sirens are tested and nobody will be the wiser.
When I was 9 years old my parents just bought a new house and we didn't know that there was a siren in the park just behind our house, until one day there was a tornado warning and it was so freaking loud that we had to leave out house and go to my dads parents house.
i dont have a db checker but it cracked the side of my house and window -its was like inventing the atom bomb but it still hasnt went to its loudest nor is it finished-thanx
oh great a genius on airraid sirens ... it is very loud now and as for looks it looks like mine not some store bought P O S- but thanx for trying to make more work for I appreciate it very much
Very cool siren. Great job. See if Federal signal will like your design. It would be cool if Federal Signal likes your design that they'd built several copies for towns and gives you credit for the design. To make it even louder, it'll look really cool with rectangular shapes horns. I thought of a model name of your siren. I call it a "Soundbooster 110"
+Robert Gift ya right- i welded the thing it would take a stick of dynamite or a grenade or even a hydrogen bomb for that to happen but thanx for the concern
lmaoo my old neighbour had one from WW2, (which I was trying to buy from him, but alas, the answer was no. uwu) and he set it off, 2 seconds later, hello police. I thought it was epic, I wish I had that siren.
cool i thought about it too but i decided to be original as far as more effective ok if you say so but i didnt see theres crack any windows but i would love to see what you come up with good luck on your build
you probably triggered all the war veterans in the area
thanx its even louder now after i fluted some of the holes-your the first to recognize the work involved putting it together itself-thank you
Sounds REALLY good to be homemade. Of course I'm sure the neighbors are gonna LOVE you! ;)

Awesome background song! I love Supertramp. x3
Yeah that's very loud!
The siren AND Supertramp are now stuck in my head
well take the long way home and think about it
You should take a look at my girlfriend-shes the only one Ive got
i get in trouble if i get caught but i will try
You should put a housing similar to a model 2 or something to make it look official. It would probably be louder and better spread noise evenly
Nice job!
That is awesome, #ExtremeNeighborhoodWatch.
thank you -thank you very much
It sounds like a car when it is on the dyno
Sounds like a dual sound race car XD It dose
i wish it was
sounds like a v8
How nice! Congratulations!I would be concerned about the rotor flying apart.
+Robert Gift ya right- i welded the thing it would take a stick of dynamite or a grenade or even a hydrogen bomb for that to happen but thanx for the concern
elvisshakesit High rotational speed has a way of making things fly apart. Even happens to aircraft propellers!
What makes the pitch? The rotor, stator, or both?
3:05 scania v8 straight pipes sound for a moment.
Good tune.
that sound it's like a car XD
How loud is that sucker? Can you hear it from a few miles if tou turned it up all the way.

It sounds like a challenger!
