@robertgift here in this example the rotor turns in clockwise direction! because if u look from 28-30s, there u can see the inclined positions of the 9 lamellas and they are causing together the best effect for the loudness. because the air will "shoveled" by them through the vents of rotor/stator with the help of the high rotor speed! almost every siren-rotor is constructed like this one, with the inclined lamellas!
@grandremonef this special siren was in use as an old military airraid siren some years ago. i only want to show some details of this rare kind. hard to find a functionable one like this.
The engine is an English-made Villiers two-stroke utility engine of 147cc. Villiers made every part which went into these engines with the exception of the carburetor.
@silver760 yes, thats right. one piston sealing was broken. and i ordered a new one: it was shipped from there in GB. i was very glad, i´ve found a person who sold such a rare and important part for this villiers-engine! :-)
it was only a test of this mobile siren, if everthing is ok with the engine and the other important parts of siren. this old siren was activ some years ago. and so i want to run it slowly in the first time. and soon i will try to run this old siren at full speed as many people want to see this.
@e57michel The 90-degree adapter imparts some resistance to the gasoline engine. An electric motor could be mounted in any position. Have you tried turning the rotor in both directions to compare output? Amazingly efficient rotor/stator.
@gislemark79 the silencer is movable and there is a better controlled discharge of the exhaust gases! and besides it prevents the discharging of some oil of the 2-stroke mix during the siren runs. (that is maybe a good explaining!? otherwise it is left to your free imagination!)
@SeafireTWA someone asked the same question yesterday: this song was created by myself one year ago and the song´s name is: "The Rising Moon, by E57Michel". :-)
@kieranmullen2 sure. but that was the available technology of that time in the middle of 70´ies. it is an oldtimer of a simple & primitive but functionable mobile air raid siren for the military or as you say: weed wacker! ;-)
there were no people in the near of few kilometers during test-phase of this siren. and so there were no complaints about an unofficially & private siren-test! but you dont have to exaggerate such "siren-tests"! ;-)
my non-binding opinion: For the sake of completeness: this muffler is also necessary as an important part for the whole assembly of an internal combustion engine like this in the video.
@e57michel the tube on the petrol cap that you captioned as a dipstick, is for measuring the oil that is added to the fuel for the 2 stroke petroil mix, these Villiers engines were used on all sorts of light agricultural machines and motorbikes too.
that is an easy reason: in case of attack if you lie in the trenches and from there you have a safety position to operate the siren by the longer cable to warn your other companions.
Also ich bin begeistert. Die will ich haben.
tolles video!
thats no problem to make that engine electric-startable. (i even have a plan to make this real!) but one the other hand think of the whole weight of this mobile siren: i guess it would be approximately 100 kg! you additionally need a battery (12 V DC) with some amperes!? but it is a great suggestion you did! ;-)
Is there a mixture control, its sounds like its runnign a bit rich, ie +fuel -oxygen, perhaps there is a needle valve to adjust this? Sounds very good by the way.
Hi Michel. Congratulations. It is an excellent warning system. But seeing your master the machines and power tools I ask you: Why have not you done a clutch system to release the wheel of the engine? Many electromechanical sirens have this simple system. Also you can do with a rotor that contacts open and centrifugally. So, by not applying force to the wheel, if it is well balanced with its bearings, it will spin for much longer without the motor. It is a fact that only a few brands have sirens. The electromechanical Federal Signal siren Q2B we call "Coastal" has it and all fire stations want to have installed on their fire trucks, this siren. Excellent work.
@cameraguy38 This was my own composition of this awful music. And so i´m a little bit proud of the whole own-made video. And that´s my aim to make such videos with the same style for the future. I can´t hit everybodys taste for "good" music! (Sorry for this!) But i´ ve to accept your opinion. I can live with it. :-)
@robertgift you can run the rotor/stator-unit seperately: in horizontal position with an electro-engine of a washing-machine. i only need an adapter for the power transmission from engine to rotor! but thats no problem. (thats an old idea of me) ;-)
Is this british made with a villiers engine? Also did you know the cup on the bottom of the fuel cap is for measuring the two stroke oil when filling the tank,it should say how many cup fulls to the gallon/tank on it.
@orthografe i think, this siren won´t getting louder, if i use it over 50%! unfortunately, the sound level measurement only goes to maximum of 130 dB and not more! :-/
a crank siren is just boring. but this rare siren here is a special kind of siren. nobody knows about the existing of it. and besides it is an awesome idea to make such an invention! hats off! and in war situations it is not necessary to ask for waste of time or money!?
If not for that charger coil that the flywheel magnet rides right under (or some other kind of generator like a small alternator or something like that), then you'd just have to charge the starter battery manually (which you could probably do after you had gotten back into the air-raid shelter, especially with a detachable battery).
@Sachse00BlackEdition hab den song selber kreiert/komponiert! eigentlich hat er bis jetzt keinen name. aber mir ist einer eingefallen: "The Rising Moon, by E57Michel". Danke für die Nachfrage.
Hello e57michel my name is Tobias Rabelink 22 years i have a question Can you take a look at this video from brining it to the net because i want to know What kind of siren is this And Can you give me Some information About it
My parents own lawnmowers with electric starting, and one of them is a traditional walk-behind size. They even own a string-trimmer with an even smaller starter motor (about 1-1/2" in diameter)! So you'd obviously need to get a flywheel with matching-sized starter gear teeth on it, and preferably one with a magnet that passes a charger coil that you'd replace the regular coil with (spark and charger combined), so that the engine could keep your starter battery charged. (Cont.)
Whow, that's a GREAT video! But when ya gonna take that siren's engine all the way to the top speed? Whow, now that'll cut some ears! Oh, also, try to find a way to make that engine electric-startable. That'd be cool, too!
It's a baby chrysler air raid siren
That is the loudest pressure washer that I have ever seen.
Doubles as a leaf blower. - it's like getting two of the most useful household tools in one space saving package!
it was the 1st run of this siren since about 20 years! and it is an 2-stroke-engine, thats normal with the smoke!
You need to make the engine exhaust quieter, neighbours may complain about noise otherwise ;-)
"Sure"
@robertgift

Only for the impatient
comming soon the full-load of this little and loud treasure! it is too cold for the moment....
OK It's loud but how well does it cut the lawn?
@pinselplins
no, its not a GDR-engine! it is a 2-stroke engine from "Villiers" with 150 ccm!
@silver760
yes, thats right. one piston sealing was broken. and i ordered a new one: it was shipped from there in GB. i was very glad, i´ve found a person who sold such a rare and important part for this villiers-engine! :-)

this mobile siren was basically engineered by a company called DISA. BTW, they even constructed hand sirens & maybe other siren kinds!
i was more intrested in the motor than the horn, that motor was cool as hell, rare ill bet, ive never saw one like that
@e57michel The 90-degree adapter imparts some resistance to the gasoline engine.
An electric motor could be mounted in any position.

Amazingly efficient rotor/stator.
You built it by scratch or did you take apart some other airraid siren and built this one?
That is just awesomely loud!!! Great job :)
This video should be even longer!
so, be glad that you've survived the torture!
@gislemark79
the silencer is movable and there is a better controlled discharge of the exhaust gases! and besides it prevents the discharging of some oil of the 2-stroke mix during the siren runs. (that is maybe a good explaining!? otherwise it is left to your free imagination!)
interesting-looking lawnmower!
@SeafireTWA

there were no people in the near of few kilometers during test-phase of this siren.

.. is the muffler on the engine really that necessary?
is there a video that shows the thing on full power?
@e57michel the tube on the petrol cap that you captioned as a dipstick, is for measuring the oil that is added to the fuel for the 2 stroke petroil mix, these Villiers engines were used on all sorts of light agricultural machines and motorbikes too.
i also notice in the note you say it is 30 years old, l think you will find that mid 60's is the youngest it is likely to be and probably 40's-50's
that is an easy reason:
in case of attack if you lie in the trenches and from there you have a safety position to operate the siren by the longer cable to warn your other companions.

very nice did you make the siren part?
@SeafireTWA
@cameraguy38

it cut off just as he began to crank the engine... or ignite it? i dont know the technical term. where is the rest?
Very nice machine. The air filter & choke resembles a bicycle bell
@e57michel sure will. but then again, will you let me know if you have 1? please..
Awesome video, love the siren great job on the production value of the video.
Starts up great! Was it a cold start?
sounds like my weed-eater :)

The engine makes the siren chatter
@MishuTaste
This siren is (was) intended only for the military sector!
was mus sman dafür hinlegn um sowas zu habn / bauen ---- also Preis mäßig?
MFG
@orthografe
i think, this siren won´t getting louder, if i use it over 50%!

Can it blend a smoothie?
@Sachse00BlackEdition
hab den song selber kreiert/komponiert! eigentlich hat er bis jetzt keinen name. aber mir ist einer eingefallen: "The Rising Moon, by E57Michel". Danke für die Nachfrage.
nice u should put the throtel all the way so we can see how loud it is just a suggestion
Looks like one of the large leaf blowers i use for fall clean up, Thumbs up nice video
Wieviel Dezibel hat das Kurbel-Teil denn?
Why not maximum throttle with the stator opened?
Hello e57michel my name is Tobias Rabelink 22 years i have a question
Can you take a look at this video from brining it to the net because i want to know
What kind of siren is this And Can you give me Some information
About it
"British Seagull" boat engine springs to mind...
I like the idea!
@RundownJet
if you are lucky, then try it on a flea market to get one for yourself!
@6V92TA
i made the whole video inclusiv the background music. i don´t know any other American porta-sirens, sorry.
My parents own lawnmowers with electric starting, and one of them is a traditional walk-behind size. They even own a string-trimmer with an even smaller starter motor (about 1-1/2" in diameter)!

This looks to have a throttle cable that is much longer than it should be, why is that?
@OperativePlum
diesen satz kenne ich irgendwo her!
Honestly, I think that the engine is so loud it would make a good siren by itself! :)
nice video ... what is the songname ??
what's the purpose?
where you you live?
I would take the siren mower to stationary engine shows.
only visible for short time, but it is the same siren-construction. nice....
Just the motor idling without the siren itself sounds like a beast
That would explain it! Makes sense when you think about it.
This video could easily have been 3 minutes long. Nonetheless, after a lot of scrubbing through the timeline, I was still mildly entertained.
Can i buy this standing think????
would you like to sell the small one with no engine
The engine sounds like a typical 2-stroke engine, but why it has silencer?
@jtrenchard
no, i haven´t anyone.
@PPGCSuicide
what is the fascination by loud noise
where can i get one of those hand crank sirens at 5:33???????
i´m very happy about this situation! ;-)
EL308 engine?
Very well done!
Whow, that's a GREAT video! But when ya gonna take that siren's engine all the way to the top speed? Whow, now that'll cut some ears!
Oh, also, try to find a way to make that engine electric-startable. That'd be cool, too!
@floriangeri
ach, hast auch so bescheuerte nachbarn!?!?
the little crank one sounds better and more like an air raid siren.....the motor one just sounds like a drone
