It really is such a shame no Class 310s or 312s were saved from the scrapyard, Those were my childhood and bring back so many fond memories, and imo they looked so stylish in green and blue in the late 60s early 70s, I only ever got to see them with the yellow front and the Southeastern livery in the early 90s, but this footage shows them off so nicely from days gone by, God i miss that rumbling of the motor as it pulled away from the station
At the time that the 'new' class 87 was captured in film, they also had a maximum speed of 100 mph. It was from the summer 1984 timetable that they were permitted to run at 110 mph, by which time their cross arm pantographs had been changed to Brecknell-Willis pantographs.
love these trains and the sound of the slamming doors the noise they made, i use too go on the railranger with my friends back in the 90s £1 a ticket from 9am until 12pm top video, God bless you,
An era many would yearn for - it was a great era for variety but I find the modern era more efficient but less interesting rolling stock wise - fewer types and too much of the "same old same old'
From a program called Diesel & Electric on 35mm: Volume 3. I'm not 100% sure, but according to the description of what's on the DVD, it appears to match what is seen in this video.
