this is also known as resurrection plant.. this kind of plant can easily survive in its dried state upto several years and just need water for returning back to life.. they are mostly found on rocks with some sort of moisture over there..they are not aquatic plants.if you wish to keep them for long time just place them over some moistury substarte where moisture remain always. their life after death is just a small example of our mother nature

Why did people dislike this? There is literally nothing bad about it. Unless there was someone that didn’t like plants. But then I would ask, why watch it in the first place.
My grandmother had one of these for decades. She always kept it submerged in water and would drop pennies into it, and said that it would eat the pennies. The pennies would dissolve in a few days. I don't know why, but it was really interesting.
You should have mentioned that though being a poikilohydric plant most of those plants are probably not really alive, as they most likely don't survive multiple "resurrections". What can be watched is therefore rather a hygroscopic process.
Wow, love this plant. I have been watching your videos today to get an idea for a project i can do with my children (7 & 9 years old) over summer holidays and we are off out tomorrow foraging in local woods to build free terarium as one of the projects but i just had to go on eBay and buy dinosaur plants as i think my kids will love them! Those plants are native from where im from and are usually semi dehydrated, they are inmovile and can live in templated enviroments and in boulders beside rivers

If they remain brown they are also dead. They cannot be completely dessicated for a long period. Wait till they close then put them in a plastic bag to slow further dessication. If water droplets form on the bag they are still too wet.

interesting plant. it reminds me of the spikemosses growing on the drainage groove up my roof. once i was trying to clean them out but half way through it started to rain and to my amusement all the dry and yellow mosses started turning green.
There are two plants, Selaginella lepidophylla (flower of stone) and Anastatica hierochuntica (rose of Jerico) that are commonly referred to as resurrection plant and another, Pleopeltis polypodioides ssp. polypodioides (resurrection fern), that is sometimes called resurrection plant. Anastatica hierochuntica is a Sahara Desert native. Pleopeltis polypodioides is native to the southeastern US and is more commoly known as resurrection fern than resurrection plant. The Selaginella lepidophylla, is a native of the Chihuahuan desert. Selaginella lepidophylla grows in desert area of Texas, New Mexico and Mexico along rocky ledges. It is collected in great numbers (probably much over-collected!) by ripping the plants from their roots. The plant dries into a ball of foliage that unfurls upon adding water. Unscrupulous marketers sell these plants to unsuspecting customers who have no idea that the plants can never be revived to a living, growing state.
I bought what I thought was a couple of small selaginella. I got 8 giant plants some that have multiple heads. What a pleasant buy! :) One was at least eight inches wide when it was all dried up.
These could be used in a desert style terrarium / vivarium and used as an indicator for when it is time to water the enclosure / habitat. Though this may need some experimenting with to see if the overall humidity levels are right for a vivarium for a particular specimen.
A cool little plant. I wonder how easy it is to care for over the long term and can you take cuttings to start another plant. I had a sensitive plant when I was in high school but my thumbs weren’t as green as they are now so it didn’t live a very long time. I remember it being an interesting plant.

My 8 year old grandson loves his dino plant that I got him for Christmas. He keeps it in a dish next to his bathroom sink. Very easy for him to tend.

They'd look nifty in a vivarium on the wall someplace. They do have roots so must grow differently when securely rooted somewhere wet.
