Thanks, Lee. I actually just finished a trip through the Canadian side of the northern Great Lakes and would certainly recommend that anyone thinking about visiting the Great Lakes should go in the summer.

It got a name change in 2019 but for many years before that it was part of the national parks system as a 'national lakeshore' so not really a "new" park. I grew up going there in the 70s and 80s. The name change is also confusing because we've had an Indiana Dunes State Park for many decades. When the name change occurred, many people now assume the State Park became the National Park, which is not true. We still have 2 very different parks.... Indiana Dunes National Park and Indiana Dunes State Park... but most people just say "Indiana Dunes" and it causes a lot of confusion. One is definitely much better than the other.

I guess growing up by the Indiana dunes is why I don’t think it’s so great. It’s cool but I wouldn’t recommend anyone go out of their way! Lol

Grew up by the dunes and have lived there my whole life. There is no quick sand there are rarely sinkholes but never quicksand.
